Yulia Lipnitskaya

Did she travel to Japan for this event or is she in a studio in Moscow?

It is a studio, because that is what they said here, that they will return to the TeleSport studio, and later during men's 1st warmup when explaining that in the studio they lost connection with Japan (and half of Medvedeva's performance :().

Do you know if during Worlds, the commentary will be from Milan? Maybe I have a chance to meet her

Me too!! She seems like an interesting character and I feel like she genuinely wants everyone to succeed. I’m pretty much only waiting for her videos to catch up with what happens on the GP. Im as excited to watch Russian Nationals as I am to hear her take on things. :yay:

I need to know how she feels about Gubanova!!!! Or wild girl Tarakanova.:hap85:

Me too, Gubanova reminds me very much of Yulia!

YouTube closed my account with Yulia's commentary :( so sorry, but I guess I cannot post the videos, it turns out it is against their community guidelines. I'm guessing it's something with copyright? But still I can do some on-demand written translations.

Any form of translation is welcome! Thank you so much!
I'm dying of curiousity about her commentary on NHK Trophy Ladies now. Especially for top 3.

This is the right topic to tell, how suprised I am how nice voice and she has. Nice that she has found her place. I must re-start my Russian studies somewhere.

I've found your account only yesterday, in time to watch your great videos. Maybe you can try dailymotion, they are usually more tolerant

:( Never mind! Any translation would be great, we all appreciate it. I really need to learn Russian.

Thank you again for all your videos! Not sure how the Youtube's copyright violation thing works, but you may be able to dispute it by claiming that the videos belong to/are the property of the broadcaster (i.e. Telesport russia) and not whoever it is that is claiming the copyright violation. (Is it UMG?)

Would I be able to put in a request for Satoko's SP & FS please? She seems very fond of Satoko, something about the way she spoke (especially after the FS) sounded almost sisterly. :thank:

All credit to maoasads, and Katia for her videos

Things we learned from Cup of China (continued):
*After sitting through roughly 50 Moulin Rouges, 40 Turandaots, 30 LesMiz', 20 La La Lands and 10 Phantoms* Yulia thinks we should slowly start prohibiting skaters from using the same music.
The quad boys are reckless, and sometimes have a 'who's quad combo is more difficult' jumping contest at the end of the gala, and even during gala practices. Adding that Yuzuru has a habit of doing combos consisting of only quads and 3As.
Gala practices are not to be missed, or you'll get fined.
Yulia recalled on how Javier's Superman EX was amazing and always made everyone laugh.
Boyang's skating has improved so much.
Yulia complimented Yan Han on his clean LP, noting that he's had a history of being able to skate clean during practices, but has been unable replicate them during competition perhaps due to nerves.
There's a new generation of young Chinese girls (juniors/pre-juniors) that are already quite strong and of a high level.
Yulia really likes Zijun.
Marin is smiley and cute, and have a soft skating quality. Denis added that perhaps in a few years it will be 'Alina vs Marin' battling it out at the top of the ladies field in the future. Yulia replied "They are already."
Yulia knows that Pikachu is a Pokemon, but probably has no idea what a Pokemon even is, adding that she is unfamiliar with Japanese toys/anime.
Kristen Moore Towers is always sunny, polite & friendly. She is also stylish and even decorates her suitcases with rhinestones, even from the inside. (Yulia, this is incriminating info. What on earth were you doing inside Kristen's suitcase?!:biggrin:)
There is a superstition amongst young skaters not to prepare exhibition programs so as to not jinx it. In many cases when they do get asked they get it ready in a few hours before the gala. Adding that when she herself was asked for the first time, she didn't have one and had to improv one last minute.
Papadakis & Cizeron are unique in everything they do. Their movements looks so effortless and polished that time flies by when you watch them.
Yulia thinks Wakaba's Skyfall is flawless. Denis said sarcastically: "Come on Yulia, find some flaw! Alina just went, and we've still got another one of ours to go!" Yulia replied half-joking: "LOL, don't worry...I'll probably find numerous underrotations and deductions in the replays" only to then proceeded to point out how powerful and flawless Wakaba's jumps are, and how intense her eyes were during the choreographic sequence. Adding that she'll have an amazing 3A.

She is the comentador we deserve. If only she spoke English, she should replace the new guy at BESP.

Appeal, always. YT videos get banned for 1234567890 reasons, mostly absurd - if you fill an automatic appeal, usually they're going to bring your videos back.
Claim you own the copyright or got it from the moon, whatever - just send the appeal notice.

I agree with you :D
I am just so curious to hear what she said about Polina Tsurskaya, by the way Katerina thank you so much for all the translations you have already done. It is such a privilege to hear her comments

Aside from very interesting and inside remarks, Julia has such warm, feminine and "motherly" voice. :luv17:
Alongside some professional commentator, knowing his stuff, she would shine even more brightly. :)

Would I be able to put in a request for Satoko's SP & FS please? She seems very fond of Satoko, something about the way she spoke (especially after the FS) sounded almost sisterly. :thank:

You have a correct intuition, Julia was really fond of Satoko!
Julia on Miyahara at NHK-
SP: Julia said she is crying about "Memoirs of a Geisha" music, because she herself really wanted to skate to it one day. She really likes how Satoko skated to it and thinks it's an ideally fitting program for her. She notes that Satoko is a very soft, plastic, and graceful skater. She was very worried for her after her injuries and how long she was trying to get rehabilitated.
FS: She's so tiny but so talented, says Julia before she starts to skate. Again she says many are probably worried for her because she took so long to be rehabilitated. She had a broken hip, and so she is only getting into form. At the end of the skate, Julia says she didn't want to discuss her technical, since it's too early in her healing, but she can't not note the final combination she did, it was a really good job. She thinks that after her injury Satoko even looks likes she got smaller and tinier. Cute, gentle, soft choreography during the step sequence brought a smile to Julia's face. Julia wanted also to note how she likes that Satoko gains speed during her spins, position to position, looks like she works on it a lot. And she notes her change of direction during one spin. And then Julia says again that it's early to discuss the technical, we should just be happy about her comeback, it's clear she's still healing from her injuries.

Some more of what Julia said at NHK.

I don't remember much remarkable from SP commentary, except everyone was upset about Yuzuru's injury but that Julia and Denis were both really proud of Sergei Voronov and Polina Tsurskaya. About Medvedeva Julia said that even when she makes mistakes, it doesn't even reflect so much in her scores.

Ladies FS:
Medvedeva-
Denis had prepared to talk about the history of interpretation of Anna Karenina in all forms of art, but he decides at the program end that her falls/mistakes make it superfluous.
Julia notes that the fall was unexpected, but she has seen that Jenya can skate an entire program of 3-3 combinations, so she had no doubt that she would do combination in the end to make up for her mistakes, and it won't even take too much energy for her. That's how well/seriously she was trained.
Denis thinks Jenya probably didn't expect to fall, but thinks he remembers her falling at Rostelecom.
Julia says she was leaning too much in her jumps and that is why the mistakes happened. The step sequence lets her catch her breath, though for the second half. Then she can "attack" the jumps like she does in practices.
Julia says Jenya took off much too early in the first flip jump, causing her to lean.
Denis notes her legs have tape, then Julia says it's probably just to rehabilitate her ligaments and muscles, that it might be for shin splints.
Julia says Jenya is a fighter, gets back up even after mistakes, does that season after season.
Both note she still deserves good scores after that.
Tsurskaya-
Julia was very worried in watching because Polina started the season late, had injuries and etc
Denis notes technical scores are very high, and Julia agrees that her technical skills are strong and she had a pretty clean skate.
Denis says that these 17 year old girls have such strength, where can the Russian footballers find some? (Russia has a notoriously poor football team). Julia says you can't even compare, that Russian girls have much stronger character, and it's noticeable even in the performance of Men's Russian figure skaters as compared to Ladies. Denis says it's an inspiration for feminists.
They both note how Polina was more nervous in the beginning of the performance and then got more relaxed.
Julia said that as a person Polina is very friendly, smart, and sociable. Denis says Eteri is charming, as always. And both then congratulate Polina on her very good debut in seniors.
Kostner-
Julia calls her a legend of figure skating, says it's impossible not to like her since she loves what she does.

Mens FS:
Voronov-Yulia is very happy for him, says he always used to skate to his current FS music in warmups and that it inspires him, probably.
Brown- For a man, Julia thinks he is amazingly flexible, even though he struggles with jumps.

Bonus:
Denis Alkhazov still loves Mariah Bell and Ashley Wagner. Julia suggests that Denis comes to visit Rafael Arutunian's group in America, and he says he won't even dare since there he will have a hard time choosing between the two.
Aaand Sergei Voronov said hi in the kiss and cry after his SP to Yulia and Adian (Pitkeev).

Thank you so much for the translation Katia!:bow::bow:
I love that she appreciates Satoko for her talents and skating qualities (e.g. gracefulness, expressive hands, arabesque spiral, multidirectional spins and soft step sequences) and not just how tiny she is. :luv17:

I am also bitter that Yulia never got to skate to another John Williams + Itzhak Perlman (+Yo-yo Ma) collaboration Chairman's Waltz + Sayuri's Theme would've been perfect.

 Denis sounded a tad heartbroken after Mariah's FS. He was dead silent, and had Yulia do all the talking.
Nawwww....Sergei & his ol'buddies :ghug:

YouTube closed my account with Yulia's commentary :( so sorry, but I guess I cannot post the videos, it turns out it is against their community guidelines. I'm guessing it's something with copyright? But still I can do some on-demand written translations.

katerina, I think you could try creating a private Youtube account or marking the videos there as private/unlisted, and then giving the direct links to them here. As far as I understand, such videos can be accessed by the link, but they are not seen in Youtube if you search them or open the list of videos (so maybe copyrighters or whoever had a problem with them will not find them).

I know a fan who enjoys creating fan videos of skaters' performances, he has such a channel, uses a vast variety of music for his videos and I don't remember him complaining about his videos deleted. Here is his channel, if you're interested, - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZPgg9bsCNNcWPwhdsrn0dQ - and here is his blog - https://www.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/altfskating/ As you can see, some videos in the blog can not be found, if you open the Youtube video list - and still they are there, in the same channel, and can be accessed by the link.
