2017 GP Internationaux de France Ladies FS

Speaking of PCS.....I am wondering why judges equate harder/more transitions to automatically having a better SS, presentation and choreography. I just don't get it. I can see that they are not mutually exclusive to each other but I really feel judges should sort it out.

If a skater can get a higher overall PCS from more/harder transitions alone, why bother with the rest of the aspect of skating? :palmf:

They are basically spinning however they wish, the reason is not really as important as why they would need to spin it. Do we see Vincent, Boyang get higher PCS than Jason? Hardly...

If you suddenly have an incredible Russian youngster with some of the most elegant and musicality around but not Tech, I bet every technical skater will have their PCS punished and win by PCS will now be justified. And somehow their artistry will be exaggerated. They are already spinning Rippon/Tanos and backloading somehow makes big massive jumps with proper techniques, speed and rotation somehow less impressive.

Having more and harder transition doesn't mean automatically having better SS. Evgenya has a lot of transitions but her SS are not among the best, for example. Don't bother too much with the PCS. You'll go nuts otherwise. They have never made sense.

That's my point. Judges give the other three for granted, simply because of "harder transitions". Otherwise no way in anyone's mind should Zagitova have blasted at the first position at CoC with a greater PCS than her competitors who had amazing and mature programs of their own.

Not to worry CSG, those same Posters will be back to trashing Osmonds PCS, at the GP Final. Or what I would call, business as usual ;)

Your beloved Osmond stands no chance against the Russians and RSU at the GPF. Even WITH inflated PCS. She and Caro are just pawns to eliminate the real threats. So we don't actually care anymore, because there is no one worthy to defend there.

They needn't go that far... it is so sad seeing any atheles get punished for the corrupted management. They should just ban the Russian judges and their affiliates instead.

This scandal involves total cooperation of almost all the athletes too. There is a mistaken belief that this is an East German type “mystery pill” situation. Nope.

Well the 3rd place finish that was at at Rostelecom? After some sketchy performances that would have never been a podium finish otherwise? She's not making the GPF and darn well not making the Olympics.

It was Cup of China, if we're still talking about Radionova.

Especially Alexander Lakernik. He just has to go.

Any governance organisation should ever have such a long serving person at the top. There should be a limit to how long someone should able to serve in the same high powered position, otherwise how do you progress forward, improve and innovate?

Ugh, based on this I pressume Midori Ito shouldn't have won silver in Albertville. lol

Of course she should have. Midori epitomized the joy of skating. Between her and Nancy Kerrigan, it was no contest, given the closeness in the second mark and Midori's markedly superior tech. Here, all three of my top 3 skated clean with the same number of triples. Even if Zagitova is 1st in tech, the second mark would break a tie. And Zag fell in her short program, which was usually fatal under 6.0, for gold at least.

An accurate description of the Japanese Fed's strategy for this season

It's the same with the Russian girls, really. Except for Evgenya but she has been around winning for the last years.
It happens when you have many who are good and Japan has more than one.

I'd argue that there is clear RusFed support for Alina as Russian #2 (and rightly so). The 3rd spot is a bit more open-ended, true.

ISU judges should just hire British judges. No skater in contention for any podium, hence hardly any reason for bias.

And seeing how strict a British judge might be, taking into consideration Vanessa Riley from the 90s, I am all game for it. :agree:

Ah yes, thanks for the correction. Still overscored though.

Yes and tbh I hope polina loses SA so we don't have to see 4 Russians in the gpf, because every time that's happened two of the four have melted down or not been scored well anyway (2013,2014,&2016)

To "push" how?

For the Japanese female skaters, a lot of focus especially in the media has been mostly with Marin. She is a pleasant girl but she is not that technically strong yet. Other skaters need more recognition and exposure as well. Also, if two skaters debut in the senior at the same time, both should be treated fairly with regards to this GOE and PCS scoring especially if they are both clean.

I am also not suggesting that the Japanese judges over score or underscore skaters so that the Japanese skaters can do well. Two wrongs don't make a right. Maybe the JS federation can raise the obvious biased GOE, PCS scoring by specific Judges, etc to the ISU, then for ISU to at least acknowledge it and do something about it.

I am not sure if I heard it correct but i remember there was a discussion about the highest and lowest score by a judge not being counted in the actual scoring. This will prevent judges from over scoring or underscoring a skater. Maybe in the future this can be applied. Now, even if the judges are no longer anonymous, it is quite obvious who they still prefer to medal or not to medal.

It has always been the case and it will continue to be like this. You have tech+consistency you get high PCS. You're younger and no name yet? You'll always get lower scores than someone who did well but has been around for more and has a name.
Maybe I'm wrong, but for example I think Polina deserved first place after the SP, in Japan. That would've never happened though cause it was her debut. But if she's consistent you'll see her PCS rise. This is how it works. Sigh.

wow Alina! I used to like Medvedeva the most, but that free program of Zagitova is just the best thing ever in figure skating to me. I am really thrilled for her, love her!

It just seems like a waste because other skaters that just missed it in those years (like Wagner, Mihara, Higuchi, Miyahara, etc) might've delivered better if given the opportunity

But this is Zagitova's first season in the senior's tour. By your logic, it is not how she should been scored in CoC. Wakaba's been here longer. So has Mai. And yet, they're less in terms of PCS? For me it's just clear farce. Especially when Wakabba threw down the gauntlet with two clean programs.

I agree Wakaba should have won COC, even Medvedeva didn't win both of her gp events in her first year, this really is too much inflation

Wakabba though is not World champion, european champion or Carolina Kostner.
And tbh, Zagitova has a monstrous tech in the FS. You always win with the free, in most cases.
