So at the moment Evgenia and Alina are the top 2 in ladies.

The third spot will be a battle between lots of skaters (including Polina or Ashley depending which of them will qualify), but right now Kaetlyn has an edge.

It will be interesting to see how judges compares Carolina and Kaetlyn at the same competition: they are both aiming high components with Caro being the most artistic meanwhile Kaetlyn has more difficult combinations.

Zagitova's trajectory is just as I predicted. Things could get scary in PyeongChang. :shocked:

Her FS has an higher score than what she got at Skate Canada.

Great redemption for Alina. She seemed much more relaxed through the program. Of course she deserved nowhere near 151 (even her TES was bit inflated - how on earth did she receive a perfect score for the combo spin?), but it’s a sight that we see often so I’m not even surprised.

Another silver for Maria. Good job, and that was a wonderful program for her! Congrats on making the GPF.

I had a bad feeling that Kaetlyn would make a couple of mistakes again. I think she needs to control her jumps better. It’s difficult since they’re so big, but her inconsistency is due to this I think.

Both Mai and Elizabet did very well too. Both were determined, and it payed off. It’s great to see both of them do so well again (and for Elizabet to finally look happy after the ending pose!).

Yuna was so good until that sudden fall at the end. I know that it’s pretty cool to end with a triple, but I think they should just go for a 2A instead at this point.

Zagitova looks really tall until she stood next to Sotskova and Osmond on the podium. That must be why Eteri chose to have her wear tights over boots.

Alina's TES is monstrous high and well-deserved. But I really, really don't want to see a junior-level program win OGM.

Well then the senior Ladies need to step it up. I’m not sure that very many of them would be successful on the JGP where a single fall can erase your whole season. I don’t have a noticeable preference and never really cared for the terms “junior” or “mature” skating but for the sake of discussion both have strong positives that far outweigh any of the nitpicking.

By the way, Wakaba still has a small chance to get into the final. If Polina places 2nd with a lower total and is only beaten by someone not named Ashley at Skate America, then Wakaba will get into that 6th spot.

If Wakaba does not get in the final, I will never forgive this sport. She was robbed of a gold at COC and perhaps even a silver at Rostelecom Cup. And it’s hard to see that only one of Wakaba or Polina can make it (as a fan of both).

Your beloved Osmond stands no chance against the Russians and RSU at the GPF. Even WITH inflated PCS. She and Caro are just pawns to eliminate the real threats. So we don't actually care anymore, because there is no one worthy to defend there.

Technically speaking, some of your so-called "real threats" are the ones with *zero* chance against the Russians at the GPF, seeing as how they've failed to even qualify for it.

She's pretty much been the best, most consistent performer in the entire grand prix series this season. So many little things. If her PCS had actually gone up when she skated a better program, she'd beat Zagitova. If Sotskova's 3S UR was actually called here, Osmond would beat her and Wakaba would likely be in. If Kostner didn't get gigantic scores to beat Tsurskaya, Wakaba would be in. I just don't see how anyone could possibly look at her performances and think that she doesn't deserve to be in the grand prix finals.

Alina's TES is not an issue. By the time Olympics come this program will undeservedly so, be in the mid 70s for PCS. At that point, there's no more fight for gold because we're reaching Zhenya's insane number at WTT that even she could only get there, at a competition that is not really more than a show. It has been decided, in advance, by someone else. It's already over.

So as a genuine question - what motivates someone to give it their best, if they know it's a lost cause in advance? I can only think of trying to skate the best way you can, for your own sake, but that is really difficult to do, and I'd not blame anyone who cannot. There's no motivation when you know you've lost in advance because it's all your years of work down the drain.

I like Alina but absolutely nobody can convince me she deserves 70 in PCS for this program, let alone above 70 where it will go soon

It's not that small. Suffice Wagner skate clean programs, not get called UR and hyped PCS. This, assuming that Polina as well skates clean. Which isn't going to be easy. She's going to be under a lot of pressure.

True, very true, Were just still waiting for her to give us two back to back programs, and it better be soon, the olympics are close, and if she wants to remain a contender, she will have to show she is ready to hit at the olympics in the final, until then, I think the judges are being a bit generous with her marks

ITA. They tried the same thing 4 years ago with Lipnitskaya. Her PCS were going up every time she skated and by the time the Olympics came, Lipnitskaya was on par with Yuna Kim.

Just take a look at the kind of terrible performances breaking 70 nowadays. In fact, we had one of those even today.

Lipnitskaya also was very loved by people around the world.
