No. Sotskova has proven herself internationally on many events already. I don't think Liza or Elena skating well at the Nationals would change anything (Unless Buyanova really favours Elena)

I have a question mark on Polina because she might qualify for the GPF and battle with Sotskova there. If that happens we'll be able to see their scoring potentials but I don't know if it would change anything.

That's what I thought. I feel sorry for Tuk. If she were from almost any other country, she'd be a lock to make the team. Does she have any more GP events?

CSKA has just built second training rink exclusively for figure skating(!), they are the most powerful and richest fs club in Russia and Maria Sotskova has just advanced to the GPF, being praised by Buyanova as "uniquely graceful, sensitive and feminine skater". I can't picture the most prestigious club in Russian fs, representing reigning OC and two well-known skaters like Radionova and Sotskova losing 3rd spot game to 16yo debutant.
Of course good luck to Polina as I strongly dislike army clubs in general (esp. in football, where they are 'stealing' players-recruits from other regions).

I don't think so?

I never felt bonded with her ( she really looks like one of my classmates whom I never particularly liked so that's probably why :biggrin: ) , but she has the 3A and I have a soft spot for anything technically challenging. I really hope she skates for the fun of it too, she looks like she enjoys her time on ice to me.
 
Alina needs to fix her SP asap and stop putting herself in a hole. If by chance Evgenia doesn't stand on the top step in PyeongChang then I'm almost certain it will be Alina. But she can't if she makes mistakes in the SP like that. Evgenia, even with her injury status, is still reliable for a great SP and she got lucky in France that Osmond goofed up in her SP otherwise she would have been in an even bigger hole then she was. And next time a great LP won't save her

A 1-2 finish in PyeongChang is very close I can feel it (knock on wood) :agree:

but for the time being congrats for the victory in France ;)

Alina was incredibly lucky to get that gold in France. If those other girls had skated clean... :slink:

(I mean, they didn't seize the opportunity, particularly Osmond in this instance, so it doesn't matter now, but I'm sure she was sweating while watching the others skate)

This can actually be said about Radionova, Polina T, Anna P. Liza does not have anymore GP events, though she may try to do another small event in preparation for Nats. At least Tuk had that one amazing year where she won pretty much everything in sight. I actually feel more sorry for Radionova and Anna P in this. Their timing was just off in terms of the Olympic cycle. Especially Radionova. Zagitova's timing was right and she had better grab what she can this year because my guess is we will be talking about a new 15 year old next year.

But seriously, those kids are scary good.
Maybe not Nastya "jumping-3F-at-8y11m" Gubanova good, but still you can recognize insane amount of time spent on the ice there. Caring parents + dedicated kids and coaches + good conditions = results. :thumbsup:

But how many skaters do we know (including 2000-2006 years) at age of 9 who could jump all triples (or almost all) like Sofia Akatieva and Elizaveta Berestovskaya? 🤔

Well, as Gubanova and Nugumanova showed us, it doesn’t really matter how great one is when they are seven or eight, or even ten. What matters is how great they are when they become age eligible. It seems that being great at very young age is not an advantage because by the time they reached 13, many other skaters caught up.

Hmm, you have a point, hanca. But I'd say and yes, and no. Ladies are going to the new quads era. So, to be able to jump a quad you already need to have very fast rotation in the air and show good results for a such young age. I need to check Scherbakova being 9-10 yo, did she have the same superior rotation speed as Akatieva or not.

And also, your examples like Nastya and Liza prove that we can recognize girls from a very young age who will have amazing musicality and artistry (both of them), and sensational skating skills (Nastya).

Unfortunately, having amazing musicality and artistry won’t be enough to get them even B competitions in the future because of the numbers of Russian ladies skaters who are good teachnically. And to be great at 9-10 and having a fast rotation still won’t forecast who will make it into seniors. Some have natural advantage and others natural disadvantage, and there is nothing they can do about it. E.g., Gedevanishwilly and Tuktamysheva have natural disadvantage. Boobs and hips do not allow fast rotation, no matter how slim the skater is generally, so whatever the skaters land when they are 9-10 does not mean they will be landing when they are 13 or more.

At the age of 6-7 it's really hard to say, but at 9-10? I guess at this age the future potential shape can be already seen. Here. I took a few photos of one program. How do you think, who is she? She is 10 yo. And pay attention to her legs. This riddle also to all of you, citizens of this thread.
