Nathan Chen

Messy but done. People complaining about his close PCS to Adam. I don't see it. Deserved winner overall. Now onto GPF.

can't blame him for not having nerves of steel,i think it's too soon to talk about OG prospect right now despite all the hype

OG will be about nerves more than anything, hope he will be ready by then

have a bad feeling this og men competition is going to be a disaster like last one, considering all the injuried, inexperienced, impropable difficulty

I mean, I think part of it - he's talking about all the different things going on with all the men this season. But he's definitely alluding to Nathan dealing with his own things. :(

Maybe he means the quad loop and his triple axels? Since he mentioned that he's done good programs with both of them executed well.

I just hope it's not yet another injury. Everything else I can deal with.

His practices seemed really good here for the most part, so I wouldn't think it was an injury - unless he's doing a stellar job of fighting through it. I'm thinking he was talking about injuries/issues in general - like there's a lot of things going around at the moment with everyone and Nathan's no exception.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that all these issues are popping up with the other men. They've all been pushing themselves so hard that something has got to give. Raf has tried to be smart by starting the season slowly, and hopefully Nathan will be able to last all the way to the finish line.

As far as Nathan's issues go, I think when you're juggling so many quads it's just so hard to maintain them all. It's best that he drops his 4Lo for now and focus on being consistent. OTOH it appears 4Lz has become his best quad.

Good point - since he seems to have lost some consistency on his 4t also. His 4lz was really amazing here though, the fact that he did that second one today and it looked so strong when he was struggling on everything else was telling.

I've actually felt for a while that 4Z is his strongest next to the 4T and thought it made sense to use it as the solo jump in the SP and include preceding footwork in the original layout. It just looks a lot more stable than his 4F. Like you said, it's probably hard to maintain all the quads, but I wish they would address the landing on the 4F. The forward lean on the landing is getting a little concerning and there's a risk of UR.

It seems it's too demanding for Nathan mentally and physically to skate a clean 5 quads long program which has more transitions and nuances than last year's at this point.
I remember Nathan's first clean FS with 4 quads happened only until at GPF last season and he even didn't skate a perfect SP (a fall) then.
Somehow I would like Nathan and Rafael just aim at performing a 4 quads LP for now until Nathan can absorb the choreography completely.

Good point, I wouldn't be opposed to that either.

I have the feeling that Nathan keeps changing his layouts may be the undoing to his consistency and success. He probably should stick to one layout, even if he has to substitute some quads with triples during trainings and at competitions.

I thoroughly enjoyed Nathan's gala performance ! It takes me back to the really exciting and intricate exhibitions he skated as a much younger skater, when I first took notice of him. It is special to see how wonderfully he has developed as a skater and as a person. (Side bar: Am I the only one who misses the red tie and phone prop?)
