Satoko Miyahara

ok, i have a confession to make, when i 1st saw Hamada at K&C i thought she was too much but after reading her interviews, esp the one about JW 2013? where Satoko skated clean but got hammered by UR calls, and both of them were shocked, after that Hamada decided to hold her students' hands no matter the outcome (ok, may not be word by word but similar meaning i hope  ), now i get it, they have been through so much together and her joy and excitement towards Satoko is so geniune, its one of my favourite coach-student relationship :luv17:

Yeah it was something like that. Satoko always conceals what she really feels and that's what happened at 2013 Jr Worlds. She seemed ok after the competition but when she returned home her parents got called by the school because Satoko had fainted. She was very upset with her result.

This performance of her SP was sublime. Each motion of the head and hands, each spin and step was so in sync with the music. It was amazing, and I'm so glad she's at the top here. Gamba for the free!

I agree with you, I love this program as a whole and every little of moment seperately as well. Her LP is not nearly as charming in my perception (music cuts are not the best imo) but she did great overall, even more than one could ask for - 1st place.

Although I love both of Satoko's programs this year I've probably watched the short more often. Because of the tension in the music I somehow find it more satisfying. I also think she had more time to work on it.

Today I decided to watch the free more closely. I look forward to seeing it continue to develop but the footwork sequence is a masterpiece: https://youtu.be/1-AhdL_dtDM?t=1m53s For more than a minute Satoko doesn't do a jump or a spin and it still manages to be heavenly. Someone who knows music theory or the opera better would be able to state the following more eloquently and precisely.

I don't know what section the cut is from but it is as if the instruments are having a conversation back and forth: several different voices/colors/flavors throughout. Somehow Satoko manages to interpret this entire conversation with every part of her body. There's a triumphant section, a dramatic section, and a soft section where she just caresses the music. That doesn't even capture all of the details, like the way she drops into the spiral as the music dips. And her hands!!! Every change of the music is responded to while effortlessly gliding across the ice.

Every time I watch the program I get something new. When I say she is skating on another level, this is what I mean.:points:

for me, what makes those programs so compelling and frequent to re-watch, is the fact that they translates so well and deeply this feel of the music/theme used; Satoko perfectly operates the mystery and sensuality of this Geisha/Madame Butterfly world in conjunction with music. SP in particular illustrates the build of the 'drama' in the music through movement and creating a character that is acting in more subdued way: not so heavy on expression/gesture, but as a complimentary ingredient of the music, choreo design, whole atmosphere.

I think also what makes those programs being drawn to is this 'fullness', 'richness' of them: they have so many moments, elements and components excelled in exquisiteness, it's like 360 degrees experience. The strength of both programs lays also in creating more just a visual experience - those programs does not feel for me like 'work', 'stuff to execute', it's not like going through the motions/elements - it's more about understand the music, convey the feel of the character and live up those elements, gestures to that place.

Aside of all of that - the package itself feels just plain sophisticated, classy, elegant, polished, like Satoko herself; material feeds off perfectly on Satoko's best skills, upping her presence in front of judges, which is so easy overlooked, unfortunately.

Still no news about the choregraph of Aranjuez? Maybe it's herself?

Either Jeff Buttle or Stephane Lambiel, they are the choreographers she usually works with for EX programs. I don't think she made it herself.

Oda's comments watching replay of Satoko's FS in SA (around 5:45)

Oda: Before coming to America, she had been skating clean FS in the practice, it seems her body condition is getting better gradually. This 3Lo is a little underrotated. 3Lz(3T)...she must be glad she landed this triple-triple combination jump in the competition, but also she'll get a lot of confidence feeling that she finally came to do this jump after having injury.

Announcer: One of the big goals for her in SA was the jumps.

O: Yes. This 2A3T...it is her strength that she is able to execute the jumps in the latter of the program, and in choreo sequence like this, she shows her own worldview keeping the speed and it is the greatest ability of hers. I feel all those points has improved compared to two weeks ago.

Satoko's interview (8:35)

Announcer: Congratulations.

Satoko: Thank you.

A: How do you feel about the result?

S: As for the placement, I didn't expect to win at all. I am really glad that I could have a good performance like this.

A: What do you think about your elements in your performance?

S: There is (are?) jump(s) which I thought the rotation was not enough, but well...I think I could do properly what I can do now. I skated with feeling that I had to do decently what I had practiced anyway.

A: What do you think about this score and the result in the 2nd competition after coming back?

S: Well...the content(of my performance) was not good enough considering of my goal performance. But as for the score, I could get the score that I had aimed so far, so I want to do my best to get higher scores.

A: Please tell us, what is your next goal?

S: The next is...Japanese nationals is waiting in the end (before the Olympics), I want to see SA as only a passing point. I could find many things I have to improve, I will have adjustments on them and want to practice more and more toward Japanese nationals.

Can you believe Satoko is aware that her jumps were not the best? Who would have thought. :drama:

FELICITATION Satoko for the entry into the final of the GPF :) even if it's sad for EVGENIA . good luck tinyqueen "miyabi "

Sayuri returns to Japan:cheer:, this program deserves as much exposition as it could possibly have. I think it will be a special moment for Satoko - to be in that place, at that competition after such hard time, full of fight and being unsure. I have no doubt that all of the light will brighten for Satoko at the moment of SP - now, it can only get up, better and improved!

By the way, her English interview was too cute for words!

I know right? The Queen not only knows how to interpret music but she also speaks English well!

Congratulations to The Queen for her third consecutive GPF appearance!!! All the best!!!

The chance of her going was good, even though it wouldn’t be because of good news (injured skater is never fun).
Good luck Satoko! :cheer:

Will the GPF be any good for Satoko at this point? She might have won Skate America but she's still nowhere near her full potential and the risk of injury is high... :slink:

It honestly depends on her physical condition. If it's good, GPF will be good for her to stand out from the TJ ladies pack. If it's bad, the GPF may hurt more than help. It is also a chance to see how she would match up against Wakaba who's the #1 Japanese lady this season and the closest to a lock for an Oly spot.
