Evgenia Medvedeva

Obligatory gratitude to Google Translate assistance.

- 18? Birthday is always nice to celebrate, but by itself that figure means nothing to me. My life remained unchanged and the schedule and goals, and people.

- Does adult Zhenya still listens to mom?

- Of course. Mom brought me to the rink. Her advices are always invaluable. I think thanks to them I became a champion. Don't know what I would do without her. (Smiles.)

- In the sports clubs parents bring little kids. It is even pity to look at them sometimes. They could play in a yard, rather than of suffering in training.

- Why "suffering"? I came on the ice in 3.5 years, and I immediately liked it very much. Sport is always good for physical development. And it's right that the parents decide everything for the child at this age. Probably Mozart would not be Mozart if he hadn't locked in the closet and not forced to do music.

- How to understand what kind of sport is suitable for a child?

- I think the child should be given the opportunity to try herself in a variety of disciplines and watch her reaction. In the sport that she likes, of course, she will be successful.

- Zhenya, and when you come to the idea that figure skating is your life?

- Probably at the age of 12, when first took part in the senior championship of Russia and competed with the serious skaters (took 8 th place. - Ed.). I realized that i can be an equal competition to them.

- One day after your perfomance Tatiana Tarasova said, "She makes people happy." And that makes very happy Zhenya Medvedev?

- Thanks to Tatyana Anatolevna for this evaluation. And when I feel happy? Perhaps, at that moment, when a little theatrical performance, which I try to show on the ice, touches the hearts of the audience.

- How to create the images in figure skating? Do you agree to everything offered by the coach and choreographer?

- How can I disagree with them? I trust them completely. And every my success is the work of our the entire team.

- I heard that your coach Eteri Tutberidze insists that athletes even come to training came with a manicure, perfect make-up, a hairstyle. Is it really that important?

- There is no unimportant things in our business. And the make-up on training is discipline and concentration, without which you will not go far in figure skating.

- Who of the athletes is an example for you to follow?

- In figure skating can't single anyone out. I try to spot the best in every skater and use it whenever possible in my work. And if we are not talking about figure skaters, I'm glad I met a volleyball player Tatiana Kosheleva.I've been following her for a long time, and I'm always amazed by her focus on winning. She is very strong-willed, she never gives up.

- In one interview you said: "It is a special pleasure (especially high?) when you overcome yourself." But the pleasure is relaxing, not overcoming?

- I think it is better not to relax. You can so relax after the victory that it will be impossible to get together afterwards. You have to overcome yourself all the time. Each medal is a new assembly point. This is the end of one stage and the beginning of the next. As soon as get off of the podium, you start everything anew. I think any professional athlete would agree with me.

- Do not you think that the media deprive the attention of those who really should be told? About the same scandalous racer Maru Baghdasaryan they speak more than about gymnasts, synchronous swimmers, skaters...

- Maybe it's even good, because it's easier to work in silence. And then, I go out on the ice not to make myself some kind of PR, flicker in the news. I was just doing my favorite thing. And I'm grateful that I have such an opportunity.

- In ladies and pairs figure skating, Russia is now in the lead, but in the men's and dances we are clearly behind. What do you think, why?

- This question to men and dancers (laughs). Everything is cyclical: until recently, we were in the lead in men's and in ladies, on the contrary, lagged behind. But don't think I have the right to discuss the results of others. Don't get me wrong, I'm a skater, not an expert.

- Figure skating is the path of complicating elements. And many do not like it. They say that difficulty is replacing beauty.

- I do not agree. Beauty can not leave ladies skating. If you only jump, and do not show femininity, not transferring the image, such a performance will never get the highest grade.

- But you do agree that the complication of programs leads to overload and frequent injuries?

- We are used to the high loads. As for injuries, it is an occasion to reflect: whether everything was done correctly during the preparation? Moreover - it might seem strange, but the injuries can encourage athlete in a certain ways. After all, to get back after them on the ice, you have to work with maximum dedication. Usually you quickly reach the previous levels, and the move to a new one.

- Do you have time for your private life?

- I would not really like to talk about it. I will say this: I am now focused exclusively on preparing for the Olympics. And nothing should distract me.

- To the Olympics, which the Russian team may not get into due to doping scandals. Now everyone is waiting for the decision of the IOC, which should announce its verdict on December 5

- Of course, I'm worried about what's going on. But worry can't change anything. Let's wait and see. And my business now is to go out on the ice and show everything I can.

Two-time world figure skating champion Yevgenya Medvedeva will deliever a speech on December 5 at a meeting of the IOC executive committee.
Woooow.

 Can't they just let her take care of her health without any pressure ???

She's too young for this. I'm 100% sure that the decision has been made already and they will only make it public on 5th so why does she need to spend her time and efforts on this???

AKTKN, thanks for translation!

 Let it be this way!

In order to stay as dominant as she is now, she has to upgrade her TEC content at least next season or the season after. There will be girls doing 3A and 4-whatever.

Thanks a lot for translation :agree:

On the topic of IOC speech, the timing makes me suspicious that they WD her from GPF for this, and may even be against her will :(

Oh my god...she obviously has a real injury and why in the world would they withdraw the skater with the best chance to win - just to give a speech? Come on, enough with these nutty conspiracy theories. Russia has no shortage of athletes who could represent them.

I am not sure why she is seen as too young, either. She is incredibly confident, smart and well spoken. I don't believe she would do it if she didn't feel up to it.

Tatiana Tarasova "Let IOC say in Medevdeva's eyes that they're not allowing her to participate in OG." Love TAT ahahah

I didnt said she faked the injury. But she said previously that she'd like to skate despise that. Given the timing, I think she'd rather go to GPF or rest if she decide to put her health first than goes "oh, the politicians are so incompetent. I'd like to fence for athletes' rights myself." as if politics interest her.

What are you even going on about? She's injured. Her injury has been clearly stated. The only way she could have participated in the GPF was if she skated while still injured, which is why everyone wanted her to withdraw and give herself time to heal. You cannot heal from that type of injury, and be ready, in the amount of time she had.

Going to give a speech does not affect her foot bones but that decision does affect if she will even participate in the Olympics, or if she does, how. So yes, that matters and most certainly, does interest her.

Tatiana Tarasova "Let IOC say in Medevdeva's eyes that they're not allowing her to participate in OG." Love TAT ahahah

Always count on her to bring the Drama we need.
In all seriousness, that thought is heartbreaking and I hope it doesn’t happen.

well, yeah, but... they will say. I'm pretty sure that they don't give a ... well, you know what that means. Who is Medvedeva for them? "Don't make me laugh," - Shao Khan said once. Nobody. Unfortunately for us.

Ok. No one understands what I say so I delete my posts. I dont want to be labeled as troll for this.

C'mon, don't get everything so serious. Everything is OK. As for me I don't care. You have an opinion, someone didn't like it. So what? Forget about it. Just don't get ill, be healthy and keep posting no matter what. Bless you.

I hope this won't be too much pressure for her! But if anyone has the right to say something about this mess of a situation it's a clean athlete who is the clear favorite for an Olympic medal and would be deprived of her dream because of mistakes made by others. Davai Zhenya!

Do you guys think she'll be able to compete at Nationals? It's not that much later after the GPF. I know the Fed will still call her for the team, regardless. But knowing Zhenya, she will want to defend that title. I just hope that, if she does compete, she will be healthy and she won't be skating through injuries

I took TAT's comment as more of a matter of speaking highly of Zhenya's strong willed attitude when it comes to figure skating. The girl is a fighter through and through and she wants to be at the OG and win. It's not about whether she holds a position of power or not, or if that situation were to play out, it's about how she is such a gritted competitor and a determined lady. :)

I'm so nervous about her health. It seems that her foot is still in cast, or not? She's strong but still so young... I'm feeling really depressed and can't do anything...

It's not a cast, she's wearing shoes normally. It's more like insurance, so that nothing goes wrong.

It's a terrible occasion, and things look bleak right now but to make it slightly lighter, I've got to say, she looks wonderful!
