2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

What’s the deal with Alina’s PCS rapid increase this season? I was shocked to see 35 for her sp. What’s your opinion on it, what has made it climb so quickly?

She is improving from competition to competition.

Maybe if you watched over her during this season more closely, you could notice that she never skated clean her short program in this season. This one was more less clean, but still if not that 3F, she would have be ahead of Osmond. Well-deserved PCS, her short program is one of the most difficult in the world along with Trusova's, Medvedeva's and Kostornaya's, If I didn't forget someone else, of course.

I also want to note Maria's program. This one was very nice and pleasant. In one breath. Beautiful skating.

That’s true, she didn’t have any falls today :yahoo: so I guess the judges saw the flow better today.

(And as a side note, omg at those junior GPF ladies!! :luv17: They could give the seniors a run for their money if they all competed together today!)

This is the Russian ladies thread, not Kaetlyn Osmond's fanfest
And that's what I meant. That STILL should not have gotten +3 GOE

She skated clean(ish) for the first time?
Also, it's the Olympic season, so the PCS will undoubtedly rise so that the Olympic gold medalists can break the world record. I don't necessarily think the men will (judging by how they skate), but pairs, ladies and ice dance are groomed to and will do so if they go clean.

GPF results:
Just a guess:

Alina
Maria
Satoko
Carolina
Wakaba
Kaetlyn

Doesn't seem likely at all for me :) Wakaba and Kaetlyn are definitely not the weakest ones here. If judgement would be fair i would put Satoko and Carolina in the end, because their technical content is either terribly executed or too simple to be a real contender.

May i say that i love Alina's skating? I keep reading a lot of critic addressed to her and cannot understand it. Sure, she could still develop this and that and get more involvement with the public, but for someone so young she has her own personality on the ice, nice movements and arms positions. I for one, i am impressed, i like her balletic style, it suits her and you can see that is not put on like a mask. I cannot wait to see how she will develop in the next years!

By the way, it drives me nuts the expectations here that a skater should be perfect from the beginning. Let the people grow! A flower is not only beautiful when is fully open.

Yes, and when there are obvious errors in Posts then the GS community have an opportunity to learn from each. Just like the Zayak rule, which some were not aware existed, until recently. No joke.

As they say in the fishery here, best to educate before you bait.

what the actual hell, Zagitova is robbed. Way better than Osmond
smh

Lol Zagitova was overscored, not robbed in fact. But russianskating4ever nick does not promise objectivity. Zagitova does many things in her program, but it's rushed, with lacking projection and the smallest polish in this field (and likely ice coverage). She's good but not that good in those aspects, the difference was rather glaring.

I would say

1. Alina
2/3. Kaetlyn / Wakaba
4/5/6. Maria, Satoko, Carolina

Alina will probably win, yes. Her FS is rock solid and her BV is far higher than anyone else's. Considering she's also been blessed with some of the spoils regarding PCS inflation, she will be very difficult to beat. Especially as Osmond has probably never skated a clean FS in her life.

For Maria, I don't think her FS is a great vessel, unfortunately. She's going to struggle mightily to get to the podium. Assuming Higuchi has one of her impressive performances, it's also going to take all of Satoko, Kostner and Osmond failing more or less. Sotskova just cannot compete and for some reason gets very strict UR calls that Miyahara dodges - who knows why.

A note on one of the 10yo phenoms:

Elizaveta Berestovskaya has to be the most heartbreaking skater to watch when she's not having a good skate. She always looks like she's going to burst into tears and start crying when she falls. Especially her SP must be really difficult for her to perform like that considering the smile-choreo involved there. Then the FS the next day she actually did start crying during it after a fall. I guess this also is why she is so pleasant to watch when she's doing well, because she's very expressive and looks "genuine". And you also cheer for skaters like her to do well, at least I tend to wish skaters like this success because you can tell how much it means to them. And for Russia it definitely is a breath of fresh air considering how many girls have this "robotic" reputation. But I just don't know how she's going to be able to deal with this going forward... I hope she will still be able to maintain her emotion and expression but it's really hard to watch right now.
