For Maria, I don't think her FS is a great vessel, unfortunately. She's going to struggle mightily to get to the podium. Assuming Higuchi has one of her impressive performances, it's also going to take all of Satoko, Kostner and Osmond failing more or less. Sotskova just cannot compete and for some reason gets very strict UR calls that Miyahara dodges - who knows why.
I actually think that Maria has a good chance to medal if the caller ignores any URs. I was surprised by her 74 score, that is great for her. She’s looking like a lock for the 3rd spot.

Any news on Stanislava and Fedichkina?? They’re competing now. I desperately want Fedichkina to be successful and not be tossed to the wayside just because her body developed.

A note on one of the 10yo phenoms:

Elizaveta Berestovskaya has to be the most heartbreaking skater to watch when she's not having a good skate. She always looks like she's going to burst into tears and start crying when she falls. Especially her SP must be really difficult for her to perform like that considering the smile-choreo involved there. Then the FS the next day she actually did start crying during it after a fall. I guess this also is why she is so pleasant to watch when she's doing well, because she's very expressive and looks "genuine". And you also cheer for skaters like her to do well, at least I tend to wish skaters like this success because you can tell how much it means to them. And for Russia it definitely is a breath of fresh air considering how many girls have this "robotic" reputation. But I just don't know how she's going to

Yeees, I totally agree. Besides the fact that she has very good jumps (no edge problems) and spins, she's very expressive and has good body movements. The freedom in her skating will come with experience.

For Russian speakers, what did Eteri and Daniil say to Alina at the end of her program? Did they comment something?

Gorgeous step sequence for 10yo kid, tho. Very beautiful skating and amazing spins. I also should reconsider her four stars rating.

Yeah, she's a really lovely skater. I didn't realize how good her spins were before this competition. And the presentation's really good. Unlike with some others(Admittedly, Medvedeva), her :O face is very good as well.

But I'm not sure about the future of Samodelkina and Berestovskaya. I mean, about girls with Eteri I'm kind of calm (except for injuries) but about other coaches I don't even know. Tarusina and ABBA girl are good skaters, especially Anna. But something is missing in her skating. I don't know what exactly. I mean, you watch on Eteri's girls and you see it. I can't see it from Tarusova or even Samodurova. But I hope Davydov knows what he is doing and he will teach the girls how to amaze the public. At least, they amaze us being 10 yo, I hope they will only improve it being 13-15 yo.

I agree. I think the FS outfit is hideous (or at least lose the gloves, please) but overall she's talented and a true performer. I loved Yulia L but really, she looked miserable out there for most of her career and never seemed to enjoy competing. Alina has a real love for being in the spotlight.

As much as I think she would very well win OGM, I'd hate to have her become like Tara Lipinski or Oksana Baiul, who each had two great seasons culminating in the Olympic title, then we never see them compete again. It'd be a shame if Alina wins everything from the get-go, there's no room to grow.
 
I guess I'll take advantage of every opportunity to talk about Samodelkina~ - She has a very refined and elegant touch to her skating, and for a 10-year-old it's just... Well, from a purely entertainment standpoint in the now with zero consideration for the "imagine how good she's going to be in the future" factor she's ahead of almost every current junior skater for me. In fact, I'd rather re-watch her skating than any of the current jGPF skaters', which is something I also have done. And while she's older than Berestovskaya and Akatieva, she still won't be junior eligible until 2020.

I just don't know how a coach could possibly... I mean, she can 3Lz(With very little pre-rotation in comparison to most) rippon 3T rippon on the second half of a program and that step sequence... Her sense for when to have slow elegant movements vs swift and decisive(and they really are decisive) truly is incredible - It's a far cry from flailing one's hands wildly around seeming like you are interpreting the music. So few skaters, even adult ones, have such a good sense in this regard. Very beautiful hand movement. And while she's not super expressive in a variety-of-expressions kind of a way it definitely is there. She's able to make her movements convincing with it. And the full upper body involvement on so many movements. I don't know how a coach could manage to ruin her at this point, as I'm sure he still is a reasonably competent one. Samodelkina doesn't have that much she even needs to improve upon to be an incredible junior skater at this point. Of course, the transitions but there's more than enough time for that...

Her skating is really full of mastery, and her twizzles are indeed the way better than any girl's from JGPF. Also, I guess it's advantage for her (and for Berestovskaya) that she trains with the one of her main rivals on the same ice. I mean, even in Eteri's group a star-girl had no rivals. Shelepen, Lipnitskaya, Medvedeva, Tsurskaya, Zagitova. And here two future stars which are only 10 year old, competing everyday on the same ice. I have heard CSKA opened a new ice-rink, and exactly for figure skating, not hockey? If so, this is really good. Also I read interview of Tarakanova, she noticed that in Panova's group they have little time for skating and no much space, because novices and juniors train on the same ice in the same time. And still, look at Panova's results and her girls. What if she will have the whole ice-rink and enough time, and space? Very interesting.

In fact, I was wondering why Akatieva wasn't skating in that same event that Samodelkina and Berestovskaya were in, but I guess she was in a different event after all. A big shame if there's no video of that performance. I'd love to see 7 triples on the second half. I'd also love to see Samodelkina have a clean skate with the new layout.

I went back and rewatched her older videos and... huh. The performance / interpretation isn't felt nearly as strong there. She improved upon it so much in such a short period of time? I guess it shouldn't be a huge surprise at that age but even so...
