I would have had Shoma over Nathan overall this weekend - that darn time deduction! But I'm glad Shoma made that mistake here and can work on preventing it instead of it happening at the Olympics.

Hi everyone I am sad this morning I just heard that my cousin in Italy has passed away. I have not seen her for a couple of
years. We were childhood buddies. I hate cancer.

Thanks for all of the updates! Shoma and the FF has a way of cheering me up.

So sorry to hear this sad news. And it always seems especially sad when someone passes away around the holidays. Maybe looking again at the video clip of the Prince blowing a kiss will cheer you up! :console: :ghug:

I stayed Nagoya for 4 nights to go GPF, just am back home now.
Overall, Shoma did good, I saw his face was so serious when he's alone before the Men Practice, there'd be amount of pressure. Also realized the massmedia is sucks always. He's now fine in a good mood.
Yes, he got the silver medal, congrats😊❤️

When we didn't hear anything from you, I assumed you were there in person (lucky you!). I hope you enjoyed yourself, even though we were all hoping for gold, of course. I just finished watching his FS program on our NBC TV Channel. They made the comment that he was really rushing the take offs of his jumps, which is usually a sign of nerves. Wow, maybe he is human after all! :luv17:

How was the crowd? I know you have mentioned in the past that the Nagoya crowd is a little quieter and usually just yells :hap57: and that's all. It sure looked like the crowd was having fun...Maybe when you have recovered from your weekend you can tell us a little more? Thanks! Should we be able to hear you cheering in the videos?

Arriba & friends here.. I'm back now🌷🚅 I was so tired to see SNS especially twitter complaining about him. I know how fans feel, but the result is everything.. he tried 4S this time, it was tough.. remember? In France he said "it's tough, tired, exhausted" without 4S. He did his best in Nagoya, I mean what he can do now. And this caused "unbalanced practice"..even he couldn't think the tactic for recovery. He maximized his capcity for successful 4S...then 4T, step, etc were going to be weaker than the past. He commented "I'm happy with GPF", but not about the score or performance, I feel. He'd be willing to receive the gold, of course! just couldn't say "Unhappy". What he said at the begining of GPS? He wants to finish all stuff with smile.

So many audience, not only Nagoya locals, many many people from lots of places, including other countries! There was the biggest Shoma call from kids to elders! also I saw many Nathan fans. We waved all countries' flags & did standing ovation to almost all skaters. I believe, it's the biggest loudest best mood at the arena this year in Japan.

It was fun, although Shoma's nervous, yes of course I wanted him to get the gold medal too!! After FP, I was so shocked...both performances were actually good..0.5!!? ahhhhh wt.. I hold my head. what's the prob about Winter music..whatever the result is result. In front of media teams, he talked positive smily stuff, but what I saw was Shoma quietly walked away sadly in the corridor.

At EX, "See you again"..he seemed to be tired still. Well his energy level was fine though. No injury now. It's my first time to see sucha exhausted SYA. At last he did 4T. All the time, photo & video were prohibited😭 Ah...I could see CK at Carnival on Ice, not this time😭😭💦

Thank you Kanna for your report. Shoma might feel the most regret, but doesn't show it. :( I feel so bad. Only japanese Nationals now, I hope his energy level is back by the Olympics (or 4CC)! Rewatching the SP of all the men, I think even with the fall he was better than Nathan. Unfortunately that was the most 'visual' error so the outcry if they'd gone with Shoma would have been huge. So I understand why it came to this. Aaah, I kind of want to forget the competition, but I'm sure it's another learning experience in Shoma's career.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. :) I am better today, such is life we must accept.

I am worried about the whole Yuzu injury situation not only for Yuzu but for our Shomita.
This changes the landscapes on a lot of things especially the Team Event. I sure do not
wan't Shoma skating the SP and LP in the Team Event (especially since Japan really does
not have a chance to medal in team event, to weak in ice dance and pairs). I would not
want Shoma to lessen his energy for his single discipline by being depleted by the the team event.

^Nooo...don't cry Shoma! :sad21: Perhaps he came home and cried to Itsuki? I bet he was frustrated.

@demarinis
To be honest, I don't want Shoma to skate in the team event at all, and certainly not two programs. If Yuzuru doesn't skate, I don't think they'll force Shoma to skate both portions, will they? I think that would be mighty unfair and give him a big disadvantage in the individual section. I believe even the LP is too much, but what can you do.

I know Maikatze not much us fans can do about it. I know in Sochi the US had their ice dance team of Davis and White skate both SD and FD and they were the US Olympic gold contenders
in ID and they went on to to win the Gold in their single discipline it did not seem to bother them. Of course ID is not as taxing as the men with the jumps and all so we will have to wait and see.

I think I've made it clear what I think about the Team Event... :curse: Does anyone know when do they announce who's skating what at the team event?

Shoma posted a message on his website. Translation by the courtesy of Yawning Shoma (still best Twitter name ever!).

Shoma, Satoko and Wakaba's interview was posted (Latremu's picture).

As you said Ice Dance is a different beast and I think they medalled with the team, too? D/W were also seasoned athletes with an Olympic Silver and Olympic experience in Sochi. I mean they got two medals out of this. The japanese single skaters will win no medal with the team and the men with their hard programs are actually risking their individual medals. Since Shoma has the highest LP score of the season, he will have to skate the taxing LP just shortly before the 'real' competition begins and will not get rewarded for it. It's a lose/lose situation. I get mad just thinking about it.

Actually, I think we're all in agreement that none of us want the Japanese individual skaters who have any chance of the podium (meaning, all of them except the third man) to do the team event at all and sapping their energy for an event they can't win. It would be a good experience for their pair and dance teams, and I hope they let the third guy (whoever he is) do the skate (more for the sake of experience than a chance to win). The ladies can split the SP and lp.

By the way, why can't they just give the team medals based on the individual performances, rather than insisting on a separate team event and performances?

Thank you for the report, Kanna!! He wants to maintain positivity but isn't happy he didn't win. I think we should adopt Shoma's motto, to smile after every competition no matter what happens. To enjoy it. It's a very good attitude to have. Otherwise, we'll (including Shoma) all just drown in the tension of the competition, and no longer enjoy ourselves and appreciate the beautiful art that skaters perform. Yuzuru was right, Shoma is wise (in some ways, anyway; the more important ones).

Thank you for all the shared content!

Maybe Shomachka had a good cry when he got home. Then after that, he probably had a massive portion of yakiniku! Now I'm sure he's ready to move on. I am too. And since I wrote my 5 favorite things of the GPF in another thread, I came up with my 5 favorite non-skating Shoma moments:

1) The kiss (of course! what else would be first?!) 2) The spanking 3) The hug (Shoma and Nathan) 4) Sticking out his tongue after the short 5) His award as Arriba's Best Dressed Male Skater

Ugh, so many good pictures! :dbana: I'm in such a dead banana mode right now. In the middle of studying, as a consistent procrastinator, I stopped to watch his GPF 2016 ex and Worlds 2017 SP, and was nearly overcome with emotion. I really really love his skating. Apparently, Tatiana Tarasova agreed with me (I watched the Apeha commentary video), if her exclamations during the program were anything to go by.

Shoma's 20th birthday in 5 days, and Japanese Nationals in 8 days (or less now)! Full :cheer: :hap10: mode on. Should he celebrate his birthday with some alcoholic drinks or wait until the competition is over? I need an answer to this most important question!

I definitely think he is gonna drink because he said his father can't drink but his mother can and he is curious who he takes after.

for the team event, i personnally like that event but i think they should schedule it after the individual events. I would be a lot nicer with everyone more relaxed and it wouldn't possibly put the performances in jeopardy for the individuals. It could also be a kind of redemption for the people who didn't do well in individuals.

That said, you never know how the team event could influence. Yuzuru skating the SP in the team probably helped him for the individuals, same as Davis/White. However Yulia or to a lesser level Machida really suffered from it.

Would they give first refusal/choice to Shoma as to which or both short and/or long of the team event to skate in, as he would be national champ and top seasonal scorer?
