Deniss Vasiljevs

Nice, but the ladies ib the front got the flag wrong. The white line in the middle must be more narrow than the red parts on both sides of it - https://www.google.lv/search?q=latv..._2pPYAhXGB5oKHRLTCX4Q_AUIESgB&biw=360&bih=560. Looks more like the Austrian flag, although the red is darker. The other flag is more correct, although the white part looks almost a bit too narrow in comparison to the red parts. Can't really tell about the red color with this photo as it has an overall slightly yellowish tone (at least looks like that to me).

So one is the Austrian flag with Latvian red and the other is the Latvian flag with Austrian red? :drama: :roll5:
His JP fanclub Twitter does have the correct flag at least.

lavenderblossom - Good about the JP fanclub Twitter flag picture, :). Also, as I said, the photo from the fan meeting is a bit yellowish in tone, so I can't really tell if the color of the other flag (with the correct stripes) is correct, or not. It does look brighter than the flag in the front, but it could be just the lighting.

I think every citizen of every country wants to see their flag just in the right way. I can’t imagine that, for example, a Briton would like to see his flag with the wrong number of stripes. Yea, the color of Latvian flag is not simply red, it’s carmine red or sometimes referred to as Latvian red. As the tint is rather specific, it occasionally causes some difficulty. The colour proportions are 2:1:2, it means the both red bands are twice as wide as the white one. So, because of all this, even in official events Latvian flag is sometimes mixed up with Austrian flag.

I consider that for Japanese fans it is rather difficult to find an authentic Latvian flag. So they do what they can. And I feel really grateful and very happy that they have tried. And I’m glad to see them holding so many Latvian flags even if they are not quite accurate. First time I was immensely surprised because people usually have only their own banners. Everybody is inspired when seeing his colours. And certainly it inspires Deniss.

Thank you, Japanese fans!

I don't really need the explanation about the Latvian flag, AgnesR :) - I am Latvian myself. Still, thank you for writing about that - it may be interesting and informative for other fans.

Also, I realize that it is difficult for Japanese fans to find a Latvian flag in correct colors and with correct red and white parts, but I thought that probably they can try to sew one or order to someone else to sew it. I think Japanese people are mostly not so poor that a group of fans couldn't afford to order a smaller copy of a flag to be sewn if they can't order a correct ready-made flag online. Of course, it still would not be completely "real" and probably wouldn't be totally correct either, but, if they did a good research first, it could at least be closer to the real flag than the one in the front in that picture. But probably it's indeed too much to ask.

Still, I am definitely glad that they thought about the flags at all. Sorry for not making it clear before.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have noticed that Latvian news, for some reasons, are interested about Deniss and girls. Questions about him and girls have popped up a few times already lol. Geez, give the guy a break XD
For now, i will have to settle with google translate(which makes the interview quite incomprehensible for me). I would REALLY appreciate it if someone has the time to translate it. If not though, it is totally fine :D

Wow, Deniss has been baking up a storm lately. I wonder how much he is allowed to sample...I couldn't make all those things and not want to eat them!

I love this adorable ornament a Chinese fan made!

The swedish princess cake was for Noemie's birthday, which is today. Happy birthday Noemie :hb: :)

Another clip from XOI

Well, I tried 4 times to record XOI on my laptop and the only thing that went right was the audio :hopelessness: :hopelessness: :hopelessness: so I tried on my phone, and there was a slight improvement (ie more than 5fps). The sound is there, but you'll have to put it to 100%. Better than nothing?

A belated Merry Christmas! 🌲⛄

This should be told to every journalists interviewing young sportsmen who try to deal with high level sport and school. In fact, such a question is embarssing for each and every teenager and I don't understand why to ask it.

But there are two more questions asked regularly. One is about plans for the future after retirement. At this point I would send a journalist to watch the graduation speech of Jessica in "Twilight" Maybe some 10 percent of youngsters graduating from a liceum know for sure what they are going to do in 8 years time, so why a sportsman should know it? (At least the question asked now is less awkward than asked when Deniss was 15).

Second question asked repeatedly is about switching nationalities. OK, I have read posts advising Deniss to switch to e.g. Suiss to avoid financial problems, but this is not a question that could be constantly discussed by media. How many times is he obliged to assure that he is proud to represent Latvia?

I am really lazy recently so I have read the interview translated by google and must say that rarely I had to look at the original version to catch  But I noticed also some funny mistranslations, like: "Mirovoi chelovek" translated as "man of peace":scratch2:

That's why I refuse to bake at all  But I think that 30 minutes of intensive training help to burn a slice of a cake... Hope so... as I imagine that Deniss wouldn't be allowed even to enter a kitchen if he puts on weight

One more skater born in December. This month leads in my statistics of birth dates of the skaters I like the most :)

Another clip from XOI
There is a broadcast of XOI available on youtube but without Deniss solo appearances. Is the show in different versions or the broadcast contains only selected performances?

There were 2 broadcasts, the first one on the 16th with mainly the performances of the Japanese skaters, group numbers and some others. Deniss' solo was not shown. The full broadcast was 2 days ago, was 2 and a half hours long and this time they did show his performance and interview but I have not seen any proper recordings of that one. Thus all I could do was record it with my phone 😧

I suppose that having a successful skater is still a novelty for the Latvian media, and they may not have considered coming up with a fresh angle to cover, or else they think this is all the public wants to know about. I noticed something similar with Javi and his Spanish interviews...they are mostly all the same, and very boring after you've read a handful. Still, I still enjoy every interview with Deniss because he manages to always come up with clever and interesting answers to even the most banal questions.
