Marin Honda

I think Mie has been mentioning Marin’s laziness to the public way too much. Marin has gotten some serious flack for this from the commenters on Japanese Yahoo as not trying your best is a huge no go for most Asian people.
However, Marin definitely needs to improve her elements. I wonder what Mie can still do for her, though. Mie has helped Marin develope her great skating skills, beautiful carriage and musicality, all the elusive qualities that make her overall skating so lovely. But the spins have never improved. And the jumping technique that her team teaches - low jumps relying on fast rotation with great flow in and out - seems increasingly scary to me because these jump are so prone to prerotation and underrotation after puberty. Seeing how Marin and Yuna Shiraiwa now struggle to eak out the rotation is kinda sad when you remember how effortless and light their jumps and combos were in juniors.

I wouldn't worry about comments on Yahoo news lol. Also everything will be forgiven in the public's eyes if she makes an amazing comeback at nationals which I'm sure she will! Hamada is one of the best coaches for ladies in Japan at the moment, so I honestly don't think Marin's weaknesses in spins is with Hamada being unable to teach spins, especially seeing as how Satoko's spins are A class and Marin has shown that she can get the levels at times. Agree about the jump technique though unfortunately because I love the flow of their jumps, but they really are always on the border...:slink: Even Rika's non-3A jumps look low to me and she is able to jump a great 3A so it's confusing to me. I don't think there's any use comparing their jumps to other Japanese ladies jumps because Hamada's camp definitely does the most transitions in and out of their jumps from the Japanese ladies side.

“I do all my jumps consecutively, and if I make a mistake, I do them over from the beginning. That’s the practice I’m doing now. [I’m practicing] everything, but I’m single-mindedly doing my best.”

1:13
“I really think about how it would feel if I could go to the Olympics, and it shows up in my dreams a lot. I really want to go, so I’ll do my best.”

3:02
“As long as there’s even a slight possibility, I don’t want to give up until the end. Rather than thinking about what kind of performance I want to do, I want to skate with no jump mistakes. Results are very important to me right now.”

3:58
“A perfect performance… I want to aim for the most perfect performance up until now.”

YES I LOVE THE NEW SP DRESS!!! She looks lovely in most things, but I was not a fan of the tango dress or the gold dress (much too long) for the Giving SP. Finally a gorgeous set.:luv17:

I loved the gold dress, but yes, maybe a bit long. This is great too, but I dunno what to think about the back...what are these golden fringes?:scratch2: Looks like bunny ears

Marin doesn't always do well in home ice. She should try training overseas, maybe it will help her get away from the distractions.

She should have got ~69, 4th place and outside chance for overcoming 4 points gap.
They buried her all right. Hate JSF. :angry1:

Every single Japanese girl got her generous scoring moment this or last year.
Mai and Wakaba at WTT, Satoko in many tourneys in last quad, Kaori at SkAm...
Everybody, but Marin.

Then their most talented wonder girl steps out at home among series of mistakes from others and 66. Right.
Good job JSF. :disagree::disapp:

I kinda like the idea but think it's not realistic. All four Honda skating kids train under Hamada. And Marin needs to be in Japan to sustain the media presence which she apparently enjoys and which all Honda kids are involved in.

Marin does not always perform well in Nationals because these Nationals are more demanding than an international event.

1) The ISU is corrupted by the Russians (who are especially subscoring the Japanese [their main opponents]).
2)Japanese judges are overly demanding and subscore their own.
3) Marin doesn't train enough
Because of those three factors, Marin is not up to what she should.
Still, she's still my favorite skater.

The Japanese culture pays more tribute to work than any other, and in the face of the same performance they reward the skater who worked more than the naturally gifted genius, who worked less. It's a way of telling her: "you can do more."

Marin's new lay-out. 3Lz/3F/CCoSp/StSq/FSSp/2A+3T/3Lz+2T+2Lo/3S/ChSq/2A+3T/3Lo/LSp. 2 Lz and all combos in second half is a good decision. I hope she will go clean today

SP Protocols: https://twitter.com/marin_channel/status/944492635279912960 Still no Level 4 for her StSq in short :/ I think they went too hard on that loop she made hand down look like choreography move

So sad, this year’s Nationals out of all competitions was Marin’s worst overall performance ::noshake: The practice runthrough looked much better, though, (the jumps!:eeking:) so it must have been the nerves. Hope she can use the time off to shake things up and come back stronger than ever.:yahoo:

Watching Marin crying was so heartbreaking. This is only her first season as a senior so there's time for her to improve herself. Her skating is so beautiful, but there are definitely areas for improvement. Once she improves on the overall qualities of her skating, she will be even more breathtaking and shine even brighter. There are so many talented female skaters competing, but IMO Marin is the only one who possesses the superstar quality that legends like Yuna and Mao had.

Marin’ll be 20 in the next Olympic. I’m afraid there’ll be more young skaters compete with her...
If the olympic is not in 2018, but in 2019, every thing will be perfect, and Marin will have time to compete in senior :((((
I’m crying with her ;-;

True, the future is quite uncertain at this point. Rika Kihira might be the first woman to land 3A’s AND 3-3’s consistently, others would have to catch up. The Olympics are not everything (remember what happened at Sochi :p? How most OGM kinda retired after?). I hope she gets the chance to develop her full artistic potential.

My thought after National:
1. It is the time to change coach and train overseas...I felt sick about Ms Hamada...(Jump technique & mass media correspondence)
2. Her (and her team) strategy about program and layout (Turandot FS, Late program change SP, SC SP jump layout and National FS jump layout)
3. Mass media in Japan was suck:sarcasm:
4. All level 4 spin in both SP & FS in National (I think it is her first time achieve):hap93:
*Save my holiday and money (I hope to watch 4CC but now......)

Go Marin...make a strong comeback next season...

I'm so sad for her, I hope she will still compete this season :(

I think no 4CC for her and I don't think she will go back to JW...
I hope she can go a senior B to regain her confidence and earn some WS points.:slink:
