2017-18 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

The cute one where they were wearing Team USA mittens/scarves/beanies and hi-fived? THAT CLIP IS TOO FREAKIN' CUTE.

(I wish the shot of Jason leapfrogging over Max got in there as well! All of the shots we saw of Jason and Max interacting at that shoot was TOO MUCH ADORABLE OVERLOAD.)

No big whoop, but it was Max leapfrogging over Jason in the clip that I remember.

But absolutely agree :agree: re the adorable overload.
And the USOC needs to use the cute leapfrogging clip in a promo.

Thx to college pat for mentioning that the Max/Jason promo aired within the Team USA yearly awards broadcast. Sorry that I missed it.

And thx to Mrs. P for all the updates to the poll. :thank:

ETA:

Woo-hoo, the Max/Jason USOC promo was just shown on the Olympic Channel, during its re-run tonight of the GPF Pairs FS.

Great fun to see Max and Jason in the promo. :luv17:

(Still hoping that the leapfrogging makes it into another promo.)

what's problem with chen? i think his programs this year are awesome. especailly his short program. that's really something!

There's more than one of us who don't have Nathan in our "wish list" for top three, so no need to pick on Ice_Tulip. I don't have him either.

However, this is the time for those of you who *do* want Nathan in your top three to list him, and have your voices be heard;) And keep the thread growing.....

yeah but it's actually not only about that. what's the point to wish in the team skaters who are not contenders for medals at the olympics at all? didn't your wish list has this option? it's kinda wierd. nathan both is a good performer and contender not only just for the medals but for the winning olympic title. he already defeated both hanyu and uno. watch men' ballet you can always at us nationals, but for the olympics it will be fiasco

My standard for "wish list" has *nothing* to do with Olympic medals, but who I want to see. I want to see Deniss V., Julian Yee, Misha Ge, and they have no chance of medaling. Why should my standard be any different for US men?

I don't watch competitive skating only for the medals. (And yes, I said competitive skating. Not show skating, not exhibitions, and anyone who throws those words around will sorely tempt my Christmas spirit. I watch competitive skating for more than just medals)

But others may, and in that instance, they should list Nathan on both the wish and will list. Like Santa's naughty and nice:laugh:

Actually, a wish list is exactly just that. Who the person wishes to see/their favorites, regardless of how realistic it is.

Joshua.....oh, Joshua.....where art thou? I can't even remember thy face. :slink:

But seriously. My dream of seeing Joshua compete for an Olympics spot, what a pipe dream it was. Wish the guy was more prominent in social media than he has been since forever. :palmf:

Flag on the play.

Now to the official on the field: "The contributor has the right to root for his/her favorites and may hope they make a Team. 15 yards. First down."

If Jason goes for Hamilton, I don't think I'll feel much sorry if he doesn't go to Olympics. The current SP is just a hot mess. (Edited)

I get that Hamilton is big and has been big for the past few years but, when seeing the way the program is constructed, the music (at least for me) just does not work. He probably would have had a better program with Book of Mormon in comparison if he really wanted to play with modern Broadway tune.

What? Hamilton is Jason's SP. His FS is the lovely, serene music Maxime Rodriguez composed for him.

Well, I can agree and disagree with various aspects of this post. I dislike Hamilton. A lot. A whole lot.

But, Jason's LP is fantastic. It could be an iconic program if he skates it super clean at Nationals. Even without a quad.

I also won't be sorry if Jason doesn't make the Team. But it's nothing against Jason. There are only three spots, and I'm rooting for other skaters.

Oops. My only excuse is I switched off of Jason after the first look of Hamilton at GP.

But truly, this was right up there with Jeremy Abott doing Sam Smith for one of his programs. After the wonder that was his two programs in 2013-2014, which he obviously failed to materialise into a competitive threat at Sochi, the Sam Smith was a complete shocker. It's the same for me with Hamilton sadly. :slink:

When it comes to Short Programs I think Nathan has a huge advantage. Adam and Jason have good SP's but they don't compare to Nathan due to his superior technical content. Nathan had a weird landing on his 3A at the GPF and still one the SP by quite a bit. I think Nathan would have to fall apart for any of the other skaters to have a chance. When you have a Quad Lutz Combo, it puts you in a different league.

He doesn't seem to get much attention but, I have Timothy Dolensky as a Wild Card going into Nationals. I just watched his LP from Philadelphia and if he can nail that quad Sal, he could make the team. He has beautiful spins, deep edges, and a smooth, relaxed style.

And to top off our Christmas skating festivities

Fan Art Depiction of *all* the Men who qualified for US Senior Nats

It brought a smile to my face to see skaters whom I have not normally seen in fan art: Grant with QiuQiu; Sean winking, even Andrew and Jordan and Ben Jalovick! And the names cleverly written on the sleeves although I had gotten (almost) all of them without it;) Particularly Hamilton with Onigiri:laugh:

Well done:clap:

I'm Canadian, so when I like American athletes, it's not because they're medal contenders. In sports I don't follow closely, I quite enjoy Canadian athletes beating Americans, actually ;). And I don't mean that I don't want to see any US skaters win medals - I'd be very happy to see H/D win bronze, for example. But the reason I like them, or Nathan, or any other US skater isn't because they're going to win medals for the States - I have no reason to care about the US' medal totals.

Nathan isn't on my wish list because he's a gold medal contender. I've come to like him for several reasons. A little bit because he's so good, a lot because his SP this season is awesome, but also because I like his personality. He's quite funny on social media, joking around with Roman Sadovsky and Nam Nguyen.

There are lots of different reasons that people like skaters, that's part of the fun.
