i think it's aquaman!
What a wonderful story about a grounded young man dealing with some very challenging conditions in pursuing competitive skating, I also thought of Rohene and his story about riding the bus to get to the rink, also among the least of his own challenges.
Go Dinh; I now have another junior man to root for
(And OT I’m glad that the local paper Mercury News is stepping up and highlighting junior and novice competitors with “up close and personal” articles.)
Dinh just skated and he landed his 3A!
He's currently second with 67.28, just 0.4 behind Camden Pulkinen, the current leader and event favorite!

I'm happy to see Camden in first place!!! I hope that Max will follow in his footsteps and win the SP. It's the LP where I think Nathan and Adam are unbeatable. Max needs to Win the SP and then fight off the other's for his spot on the team.....I'm so excited for the men to begin. Good luck to all.....

TBH, Mr. Rice, you don't need to worry about Camden. His first place in the junior men's is like Nathan's in the Senior Men, the odds-on favorite.

I love it so much, too! I'm not sufficiently up on superheroes, apparently. But I think the depiction of Max is awesome. The artist really did the facial expressions well, on Max and all of them (Nathan's a bit severe, though!)
I found this representation of Aquaman, and it looks like the right costume design, with the big gloves. If Max is supposed to be Aquaman, I think that's meant to be a good thing. hey, Aquaman navigates the Seven Seas, masters an element that stymies others, and Rides a Shark!

Just snagged tickets for the senior men's short and free skates at Nationals for 40 bucks! Decent seats too. Even though I'm nearby in San Francisco, I originally wasn't going because I'm just not too invested in the Americans... but with Nationals just a couple of days away, the prices are dropping so much with people getting desperate to just get rid of their tickets.

In which they basically argue for everyone except Max.
Seriously. Jason gets a write-up for his resume. Adam gets a write-up for his. Vincent gets a paragraph on the foolish "future" premise. But Max? Almost nothing. No-one arguing for him. No-one gushing about his quads or his programs. Even the bronze medal at CoC - where he won the free skate - gets little more than a cursory mention. And there's no mention whatsoever that Max and Vincent were at the same events and Max beat him - twice.

He's my favorite American Men's skater after Nathan and it really is sad how no one seems to ever give him any recognition no matter what he does.

Dang it. Max drew first group. Vincent is next to last group. But that last group is gonna be lit. Nathan, Jason, Adam, Torgeshev, Hiwatashi...
Prepare yourself for posting drama, as most (not all) of mine and el henry's favorites are in this final group!
EDIT: Leaving Tavi's link for now... but we agree there is uncertainty if these groupings are practice groups or SP skate order.
EDIT Again. Jackie confirms this is the SP draw for men.

I’m actually going to delete my info and ask Jackie to confirm. It says practice at the bottom so maybe I’m wrong. Wouldn’t want to freak Karne out unnecessarily.

I concur an abundance of caution is needed. I think he may have typed "practice" in an attempt to tag on his practice notes... another twitterer has posted asking him if this is the SP or practice groups. Hopefully, he'll answer her soon.

But Tonto, my friend, you are right, it would be quite the grouping. (ETA: Just saw the confirmation. Now I will proclaim, what an interesting grouping!) Although I had to ask Jackie on Twitter where his notes on Andrew T.'s practice were.
Alas, not a particularly good practice for our boy, this may be a "rebuilding year"
