2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

I was thinking the same thing, but did not have your wonderful expressiveness to post it :agree:  It was driving me crazy so I switched to the http://live.qq.com/10012776 stream

I’ve been mistaken for Walt Whitman many times around here, just because of my beautiful poetic way of making eloquent statements. Some say it’s a curse, I consider it a gift....

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Only caught part of Max's skate due to stream freezing (#*#*% NBCSN for showing reruns), but from what I saw he showed emotion and commitment, and two great triple axels. I don't care what anyone says about his artistry, I think he's vastly improved and that POTO was a great vehicle for him. I feel so disappointed that it turned out this way. He's worked so hard, balancing skating and school, and he is such an upstanding young man, showing nothing but support for his competitors after he accepted that his Oly dream was over. I would love for him to continue for a couple more seasons, to fulfill what he's worked so hard for.

Time to go get snacks for the last 2 groups.

I hope we have ice cream. Or cookies.

depends - here, the ladies were pretty meh, so its kinda pointless to compare an average competition to an average competition.
I usually do a Medvedeva slay count though, in a sense that "that girl skated clean and you guys keep splatting and popping, shame on you, either do your quads or learn how to skate like jason brown"

But I'm not understanding how that is not sexist? Like, why not compare them to Yuzu, or Boyang, or another guy....

I am afraid that the way I am hearing it, it is still "nyah nyah, you should be ashamed that a *girl* beat you". And that is not cool at all:scratch2:

Right? I don't understand it either.
But actually someone had one of Colm's for their music this season, I just don't remember who. Way too many programs juniors and seniors together, but it comforts me someone at least has good taste! Automatically +10 PCS!

That is something. Like if you're going to do a warhorse, do it right. Certainly don't use inferior recordings.

I think for me it's more that both the juniors and the ladies have fewer opportunities to get scores (number of jumping passes, etc) so it's unfortunate when groups who should theoretically outscore them simply by virtue of say an extra jumping pass, don't and has less to do w gender of the slayer. Same deal with Jordan Moeller slaying in that his SP score was so much lower in last place that it's surprising how many he beat.

That makes sense in that it is not gender based. But that would require too much thinking for a PBP thread for me:biggrin:

Serious question:

will someone reassure me that comparing the men's scores to Bradie's scores is NOT

"Nyah nyah nyah you're so bad that a girl could beat you nyah nyah nyah"

Because unfortunately for those of us (OK, me:biggrin:) who attended kindergarten in a certain time frame (way longtime ago), it brings back those memories. We later grew up to realize it wasn't cool, or funny, or smart.:noshake:

So I'm hoping that it is not the case, and it's being done for some other reason I can't fathom, and I'll admit, there is much I can't fathom.....

I think it depends on who's doing it and what the circumstances are. I don't mind it when it's within its own competition, like a Ting Cui slay count in the junior ladies free. She was a favourite, but performed poorly in the short, finishing 11 of 12. She skated phenomenally in the free. In this case, a Ting slay count in the free is, to me, a measure of her redemption and seeing just how high she bounced back (placed 2nd in free and 3rd overall!).
