2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Miner-ed and Mirai-ed in one event.

There's a Malaysian saying: Already fallen from the ladder and then got struck by the falling ladder.

The Chinese idiom goes like: man fallen into a well, then getting rocks thrown down the well on him.

So Ross doesn’t make the Olympic team or worlds team and is only the 2nd alternate for both. That’s bs.

I agreed with the Olympic team. But Ross should have replaced Vincent for worlds.

GOE Question

Hi. Sorry if this was answered elsewhere -- I couldn't find it. Based on the official results on icenetwork.com for the Men's Free Skate:

1) How did Adam get a GOE of -4.00 for the under-rotated quad Lutz that he fell on (also got a -1.00 fall deduction), and how did Max get a GOE of -3.54 for the fully rotated quad toeloop that he didn't fall on (no fall deduction)? What I mean is what in the rules gets someone to a GOE of less than -3.00?

2) Conversely, how did Jason get a GOE of -2.10 for the downgraded quad toe loop that he fell (and rather slid) on? I thought -3.00 was "mandatory" for a fall.

Thanks for any information.

The GOE gets factored according to the base value of the element.
-3 GOE on a 3T is 70%, so it's -2.1 points.
-3 GOE on a 3A is 100%, so it's -3 points.
-3 GOE on a quad is 133%, so it's -4 points.

The Chinese idiom goes like: man fallen into a well, then getting rocks thrown down the well at him.

The Americans say, "Kick them when they're down."

I named the 2 point deduction per fall after 2 falls the kick-them-when-they-are-down rule. Yeah, rocks thrown into well.

I hope the coaching teams and parents of these duped athletes stands up against this flawed, fraudulent system of selecting a 2 time 9th place finisher to represent the country at an ISU championship. If you’re going to send number 9, you may as well send number 20.

Miner and Hochstein should both just retire as it’s clear the federation will never give the two of them any fair shot at anything. Why prop and protect Max Aaron of all people??

Eh, they should both retire because in their entire careers they failed to accomplish anything of note up until this point. That isn't the USFSA's fault.

I hope you're right. I'm sorry if I took it the wrong way.

Nathan and Vincent are the first Asian guys from the US to go to the Olympics, but I'm not sure about Adam. Was Johnny out of the closet in 2010? I think he more or less was, but I'm not 100% sure.

Anyway, best of luck to them!

And to add to the previous explanations, since Jason's 4T was downgraded, it was counted as a triple in terms of scoring (0.70 factoring) so its final -3 GOE was converted to -2.10.
