2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

For those, who don't know who is Diana Guseva, here is the video with her skate in April 2017. That was very promising April, and not only considering her, and then... Ugh. About her program - one fall, but pretty decent skate. Soft skating and soft jumps. I found the protocol from that competition. Of course, Anna and Sasha are both ahead of her with insane TES (75.93 and 73.33), but she also showed very solid result, gained 67 for TES with fall. I also very like PCS at this competition. Low and fair. Agreed with gap between the first place and the others.

Let's see if Anya can get her FS's 6 point PCS gap in comparison to Trusova back for this season. I think that she would deserve such a gap if she reached her expected level for this season had there been no injury, but catching up on the fame / international exposure will be a very difficult task. I wonder if it'd be possible until seniors, even.

The next week will be going very slowly while waiting for the weekend but luckily then it's going to be an awesome event after awesome event until Olympics.

Do we have the complete list of ladies competing at Russian Junior Nationals?
Also:
*will Stanislava be there?
*will Samodurova be there?
*how is Nugumanova doing? Is she a federation favorite? That’ll matter a LOT if she wants to go to junior worlds
*how many girls have a realistic chance at the podium? 75%???

It's funny, but if we're talking about clean skating, then Konstantinova will win this event. She will beat by PC scores gap between her and Trusova's TES. That's who is the federation favorite but still I don't get why.

Kurakova, Sinitsyna, Kanysheva, Kostyuk - all these girls with clean skating should earn 65-70 for the sp and 130+ for the free program. Nugumanova with clean skate will have 125-130 points.

If Gubanova will go all-in, her scores should be about 130-135(140) points for the free skating. Samodurova can have big scores only with inflation, as well as Konstantinova, her real scores are still 125-126 for the free skate. But at Senior Nationals we saw that federation not considering her as a favorite anymore, which she was at Russian Cup stages, where she got crazy scores after winning two JGP stages.

Gulyakova can shoot, but her PC's are weak, although she skates pretty fast and nice, not to mention her massive and solid jumps. Panenkova's case is almost the same.

And three JGPF medalist with possible 135-140 points for the free program.

Full list:
Alexandra Trusova
Anastasia Tarakanova
Alena Kostornaya
Daria Panenkova
Sofia Samodurova

Anastasia Gubanova
Anastasia Gulyakova
Stanislava Konstantinova
Alisa Fedichkina
if back from injury; Viktoria Safonova would be first alternate at this point but Shcherbakova might participate, leaving Safonova as second alternate

Elizaveta Nugumanova
Ekaterina Kurakova
Ksenia Sinitsyna
Alena Kanysheva
Viktoria Vasilieva
Sofia Moroz
Anastasia Kostyuk
Ksenia Pankova
Maria Pavlova *if Anna Shcherbakova does well at her competition then Anya might be added to the roster thus leaving Maria out of the competition*

Stanislava and Sofia Samodurova will both be there.
Nugumanova has a new coach but I saw a video of her doing 3F-3Lo. Her JWC are slim because she has a lot of competition and lost some of her Federation reputation when she had that messy dismissal/departure from Mishin.
Realistic chance at podium (in my mind):
Trusova
Tarakanova
Kostornaya
Konstantinova
Panenkova
Samodurova

I assume they want to see what happens with Moscow Cup first. It has skaters like Guseva and Shcherbakova who have no real results from the year but who should easily be good enough(And a couple of others to watch for as well). I don't know exactly how many skaters are guaranteed as entries. At least the JGP participants and top 9 in points should be safe, I'd assume.

So a bit of a list for these 18 skaters:

Alexandra Trusova
Alena Kostornaia
Anastasia Tarakanova
Daria Panenkova
Sofia Samodurova
Anastasia Guliakova
Stanislava Konstantinova
Alisa Fedichkina
Anastasia Gubanova
Elizaveta Nugumanova
Ekaterina Kurakova
Ksenia Sinitsina
Alena Kanysheva
Viktoria Vasilieva
Anastasia Kostyuk
Ksenia Pankova
Maria Pavlova
Sofia Moroz

Realistic podium finishers:

Trusova
Kostornaia
Tarakanova
Konstantinova
Gubanova
Shcherbakova(?)

I don't think enough skaters will mess up for any others to have any shot.

Side note about how annoyed I am with Konstantinova participating at juniors. Please go to seniors already and let the younger skaters have their chance.

On Nugumanova, I really doubt she's good enough.

But why not?

She gets overscored through the teeth domestically yet always has failed in championships. She's a year older than Tsurskaya.

What an artificial gatekeeper.

Who knows? [emoji848] In 2015-2016 season at junior level at Tallinn Trophy she even earned 191.86 points being 15 yo. Ahead of Fedechkina by 15 points and by 5 points (and higher PCS too) ahead of Sotskova at senior level. And then only 169.55 points at Junior Russian Nationals 2016.

The issue is she's 17 years old and this is her second season being senior eligible. She's a proven mediocrity at international competitions that matter. She's failed in her 3 past JGP assignments and was a disaster at last year's jr. Worlds. Indeed, she's never had a passable performance at an event more important than the challenger series. Yet she's scored like she's the next Medvedeva domestically.

As I said, an artificial gatekeeper blocking far superior and more deserving talent. If she was in challenger series being out of the way of these juniors I wouldn't really have a problem. But if she gets a jr worlds spot with the power of astronomical overscoring(Shudder!)...

In reality she's a third string skater deserving of challenger series appearances but that's about it.

I guess hanca has some insider info here. Except the nonsense about staying Panenkova in juniors in the next season, while she is the one of the most consistent skaters and went through puberty already. She said many times that only federation allows to some skaters go to seniors or stay in juniors. And that's why I'm afraid for other 15 yo girls - Katia Kurakova and Anna Tarusina. Will they be caged in juniors for another two years? Because they are ready for seniors even now. But the question with constant local Konstantinova's overscoring is still open.

In reality she's a third string skater deserving of challenger series appearances but that's about it.

But she even won the last ISU Challenger. With single flip she got 132 points for the free program and 65 PCS.

I doubt she'll get a Junior Worlds spot. I hope Gubanova does, she actually needs it. Konstantinova has already done enough to ensure her position in Seniors for next season.

I doubt she'll get a Junior Worlds spot.

You mean, even if she'll be at the podium? Because considering her international score at the last ISU Challenger and her scores at Russian Nationals - even with two single jumps she might be in the top 3.

i suppose we need to wait till junior nationals.

I also found myself that I somehow don't remember at all the last Juniors. And it's bad, because there already was participating Sasha Trusova (4th place btw), but no Anna, because of hand injury I guess? Just remember that was really horrible event with empty arena, the same will be in Saransk. Horrible also because they didn't broadcast that competition and did not allow to broadcast that to the others. So I suppose we'll see again only garbage gray videos without K&C moments. If Wakaba will not decide to appear there to record all skaters, of course, and will send a link to sabinfire to upload videos as in the last year. I mean, with forbidden broadcasting one mystery person somehow managed to record all competitions with K&C moments. You have to be James Bond to do that. And in this season we all know who have this program... It can't be a coincidence!

if Konstantinova will be sent to JWC, that means someone from top tier juniors(Trusova, Kostornaya, Tarakanova) will be left out. The ones who have proven themselves this season. If that would happen i would be mad as hell. And its not like i hate Stasya or something, she just doesn't belong to juniors anymore imho.
Even visually it looks ridiculous :) Find the one who is not a junior on this photo

:laugh2::rofl:

The prettiest one? :love::p

You clearly don't understand, that Stasya is the best Russian adult skater.
She's strong, athletic, good jumper, fast skater, good performer, good looking girl and very nice, warm personality.
She's also very ambitious, hard-working athlete and if you find her skating a bit rough, you should know she started skating at 8! It's like 3-4 years of disadvantage vs the other girls, yet she rocks nationals and is second in Challenger series, all after puberty. She's not extraordinary talent maybe, but definitely safe bet for federation. They'd be stupid to let her go, seeing what's been happening with Lipnitskaya, Radionova, Tuktamysheva, Sakhanovich, etc. roller coaster.

Here she is - 17yo woman, healthy, motivated and physically ready to rock! :hap10:
