So are all of the events scored seperately or together like the gp?

Sorry rosacotton, but I'm afraid that I haven't seen any of the Hunger Games films. But I have seen a few Ladies competitions at Russian Nationals... ;)

CaroLiza_fan

 It's okay, I've only read the first Hunger Games book and seen the trailers. But I suspect we'll witness a number of Hunger Games-style nationals this year. ;)

The rules of each Predictions Game are exactly the same as we are using for the GP Game (when I post the Rules threads, they will look very familiar ;) ). The only difference is that we have some Non-Scoring Rounds in the Nationals Game.

So, the predictions for the National Championships are scored together; while the predictions for the Major Championships are scored together.

The Nationals Game and the ISU Game are separate Games, of course. So, they will be scored separately to each other. I just posted about them together because it is easier to make the arrangements for them in one go.

Sorry for the confusion

Just to let you know that the Nationals Game is now up and running!

Here is the rules thread:

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?67496

The Hall Of Fame thread is also up (there are currently only first 3 posts in it because vBulletin keeps trying to merge the fourth post into the third post :rolleye: ) :

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?67497

No Predictions Thread yet for the British Championships, because I haven't been able to find any entry lists for the Senior competitions yet. So, if they don't appear tomorrow, when the younger level competitions start, then that N/S round will be hit on the head and Australia will become the first N/S round.

EDIT: Scratch that. I've found the Entries / Results Page for the British Championships, so I'll make out a Predictions Thread after I have breakfast.

The threads to do with the ISU Game will appear in the new year, because the first round isn't being held until a couple of weeks into 2018.

I will contact those that have very kindly volunteered to score shorrtly.

And if anybody else wants to volunteer, you would be very welcome to join!

I'll probably be able to score competitions being held on the first two weeks of January, if there's any need!

Guys, this thread is for making plans for organising the Predictions Games. Not for making predictions.

And on the subject of the plans, the competitions that make up the first 2 scoring rounds of the Nationals Game will be held later this week. Consequently, I will be contacting the scorers after the GP Final is over to make the final preparations.

I just wanted to wait until the GP Final was over, as it can get complicated if too many rounds are open at the same time.

Calm down, please. No need to call out other people's characters :)
The thing is, at the GPF, you have to be able to skate cleanly in the FS in order to not be in the bottom half. Can Kaetlyn do that? We'll see in the free skate, but there seems to be a low likelihood of that statistically. Numbers don't lie :)

Hmmm, I think Spirals, it may be best to learn about the sport, such as the "Zayak rule", which was unfamiliar to you, a few weeks back, before you comment.

As you have "recently" found out, dance and skating are very different. As we say in Nova Scotia, famous for our lobster, you must educate, before you bait.

Just a wee reminder to everybody that the final round of the Nationals Game, the Canadian Championships, is this week. And this will be followed next week by the first round of the ISU Game, the European Championships.

The thing is, we were a bit short on scorers for the Nationals Game this season, with the result being that some of us have had to double-up and score multiple categories in the same week.

So, I would like to ask if there is anybody out there that would like to volunteer to join the team for the ISU Game.

If you are only available to do scoring for particular championships, that is totally fine. We are very flexible and can accomodate that. We know everybody has real lives.

So, if you would like to get involved, let it be known here in this thread, or else contact me directly by PM.

Thank you

Thank you for reminding me that I need to score the US men. It WILL happen, just not sure when.
I don't think I'll be available for the majors. Sorry for all the confusion I've caused (there might be more when I do the men!):

I enjoyed the GP game and am looking forward to the ISU game. I would be happy to be a scorer if you still need help. (just warning you I am not exactly a computer whiz).

Neither am I.

Although it may sound scary, scoring is really simple, thanks to Samkrut's algorithm. All the scorers have to do is just copy the predictions (and results) from the thread and paste them into an Excel spreadsheet, and then replace the skaters names with codes. After that, the algorithm in the spreadsheet does the complicated stuff. And then all you have to do is paste the scores it produces into the scoresheet.

It's basically just a whole pile of copying and pasting.

So, if you are interested, I would be more than happy to welcome you on board.

Oh, Spirals! You crack me up! (Shhh! I'm trying to make scoring sound more attractive!)

Nah, you were just unfortunate that a lot of the competitions you were scoring had skaters withdrawing very late. And that can make things tricky for somebody who has a lot of experience scoring, never mind somebody who is brand new.

Late withdrawals happen quite frequently in the Nationals Game, where the published Entry Lists do not get updated as regularly as we would like. So, you were kind of thrown in at the deep end.

Fortunately, they do not happen as often in the ISU Game.

well, laugh as much as you like, but I tend to do my scorings 'manually' - it really 'exercises' memory and thinking for me, combining names/nicks with scores, variations etc. It's even easy for me to spot some kind of tendency, who got podium right, how many people did it etc. And it really helps me to memorize more of your GS names . But agree, there's an algorithm to get things pretty straightforward and unified, only this darn 'copy/paste' task:laugh:

Just to clarify, I was the scorer for the U.S. Men's game. (Spirals was a little confused but now knows she's scoring Ladies so all is good!) Scores are in the spreadsheet, and results are in the thread! :)

NoNameFace, I also score manually and totally agree with you that it makes it easy to spot trends - and learn some screen names a little better LOL!

CaroLiza_fan, I emailed you, but just to confirm I'll score whatever you need for the ISU predictions game!

Wow! I am in awe of you for doing the scoring manually. The very first time I was scoring, I did it manually. And it was a nightmare!

That was for a competition with a small number of players. So, I dread to imagine what it must be like to do it for a competition with a large number of players.

You know, I am regretting posting that comment you quoted. I was trying to make scoring sound more attractive to potential new scorers. But the way I wrote it makes it sound like I am belittling the work that the scorers are doing. And I know just how much work goes into it, so I wouldn't want to do that.

I think I should just shut up before I do any more damage.

Wow - you're doing it manually too! I had no idea that there were so many scorers that were brave enough to do that!

Don't worry, I know you've volunteered (did I miss you when sending out the replies? :slink: ) I'm just waiting until the Canadian Predictions close before starting to finalise arrangements, just to give people a little more time to see the appeal.
