Nathan Chen

don't know about the "hurled his body into moves" part

But I really like Nathan's jumps' sound. it sounded really smooth and satisfying and actually quite soothing too. And when Nathan hits his jumps, it really is very beautiful to watch, his form in the air, the perfect entry and the landing that turned out free leg and the sound of it ALL.
Dreamy.

repost here to share with Nathan's fan this little fact:biggrin:

"fanny fact: Nathan usually says his family name "Chen" in a perfect Chinese accent (although that is probably one of the couple Chinese words he can speak). That small detail really attracted lots of Chinese figure skating fans' attention and felt very fond of him."

Actually I never noticed. To me he always says "Chen" the same way as the other native English speakers of Chinese origin pronounce this last name..

As native Chinese speakers you can detect the smallest difference. I cannot remember the exact incidence (maybe during WTT, when Nathan introduce himself as part of Team USA "I am Nathan CHEN"), but it was quite a bit sensation among Chinese Nathan fans then

also, I finally watched that dreaded 2hours long TSL us national recap... yeah, I get what they mean by Nathan hauls himself into his moves (which is his SP stsq), yes, Nathan BOI, indeed haul himself in those occasion.

Never mind other things they said about Nathan, they never paid enough attention to(or cared) Asian skaters including Nathan, So they hardly have any insights.

United promo coming soon. Looks like Nathan might become a superhero?
https://twitter.com/united/status/951544258602844160

It was reported upthread (I think) that the United-sponsored athletes were going to be on the headrest cover for United flights, but I didn't see that on the headrests on my most recent flight. However, I did get two copies of the entertainment pamphlet with the cover being the United athletes that includes Nathan :D
No mention of superhero inside though...

That's actually so interesting, the fun fact. I never noticed before but after rewatching some of the videos where he introduces himself, I can see that sometimes he does say with chinese accent lol. Also, just curious, is this the official "fan thread" for nathan or are there others??

No official fan club in China as well, Just a couple dedicated fans post about Nathan frequently on Chinese social media weibo. None of them are official, or organized.

something about Nathan's innate musicality is unbelievable,
No matter how he randomly changes his jumping layout, he can always land his jump on (subtle) music note!

EDIT:

watch this dance (Chinese classic dance: 水墨孤鹤 water ink solitary crane)
https://www.bilibili.com/video/av11712443/#page=2

can compare to Nathan's COR choreo only FS practice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoBZKzIktGg

Nathan created some fluid, flowing, soft, asymmetric, irregular curvy lines (with constrast to sharp defined/precise music timing) that is quite similar to the feelings of Chinese classic dance. According to the lovely fan interview of Nathan in the send-off dinner. The choreo was intended to be a bit modern from the beginning, in terms of dance elements incorporated, it is indeed quite modern with infusion of other styles/genres, which like Nathan said in previous interview (it has some relation to his ballet dance root but not exactly, I think Nathan or Team Nathan rarely talk about(advocate) his programs... So, thanks to those precious fan interviews)

Also, another thing to notice from the above Chinese classic dance is that crimson line start from the male dancer's neck down his spine.

I kinda get the use of bling shining zipper in the back of Nathan's FS costume, it may meant to invoke some level of intangible SEXY appeal, (remember this sexy back/spine http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/04/29/article-1381873-0BD360F400000578-139_306x830.jpg) Maybe that is where Vera Wang is getting from. Thus a big shining zipper (supported by Nathan Boi's cool/modern taste:biggrin:)
The front design is really good actually, as I suggested earlier it may meant to resemble water ink brush painting (brush dance is part of Nathan's FS music) as it clearly shown in this gorgeous photo https://wx2.sinaimg.cn/mw690/49583323gy1fndmeok2r0j20u00u0dkt.jpg Actually a couple of Chinese fans already started to make the connection.

Overall, I think new dress really enhanced Nathan's overall body lines and the brush stroke pattern design on his upper body is actually quite genius. this pattern/shade(horizontal brush stroke with subtle shade difference) has the best aesthetic, flattering visual effect on Nathan. also smartly covered Nathan's pit staining:biggrin: also authentically reminiscent of Chinese water ink brush stroke yet at the same time has a modern feeling.

Maybe the shining zipper could be designed better?

Also another thing which is perhaps not quite good is that new costume(US national performance with new costume) makes Nathan's movement appeared a bit rigid. lacked the original fluid/floating/flowing, organic feel that so many fans resonate with. And it covered Nathan's beautiful fingers and wrist movement. however it indeed elongated Nathan's arm lines...

Also less exposure of that sexy dancer's neck (a.k.a swan neck, in China we say Crane neck)

As a fan. I'm not sure I would have had the guts to do it on my own if I didn't have a few foreign fans behind me, really wanting me to speak on their behalf.

Don't think there are any full videos of his exhibition out yet. The whole gala will be broadcast on Sunday.

:luv17: I told you it was flirty!
I'm wondering if he's going to do this or Parachute for SoI. Or (knock on wood) the Olympic gala. I'd really love to see Parachute in person at SoI. But I'm also not totally sold on the rock for the Olympics. Hmmm.

also, that moment when you can hear yourself.... several times...

I love it! He's like the male counterpart to Shae. I'm sure he'll be doing this for SOI because he did Parachute last year.
