Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

We don’t know if it was really a Yuzu’s statement,it’s just something they said he said, they can easily attribute to Yuzu any statement they want since he desappeared from the scene.
We don’t really know if he wanted to compete at 4CC either, we only know for sure JSF didn’t select him.

Please believe what you want to believe.

Maybe Yuzu actually wants to stay under the radar. I would prefer it that way too. Less media attention.

I think it's great to go into the OG as not the favorite for Yuzu, it just fits his competitive mentality better and takes some pressure off his shoulders. Brian himself Yuzu was getting a bit manic in preparing for the games because he wanted that second OGM so bad. Maybe going to the games thinking of just doing his best because he just came back from injury is going to be much better for him.

https://youtu.be/2qX_wEspOxc Hanyu also mentioned in a CNN broadcast

Will he be great or will he be rusty?

To avoid beeing too rusty, EVERY Olys medal contender has a pre-Olys competition in January, except Yuzu who was not selected .
It seems JSF will offer him to skate just 13 days after 4CC to SP and FS (if Japan qualifies) at Olys team event, 4 competitions in 8 days , Feb 9 to Feb 17.
They called it a Olys special assignement, it seems to be very effective in removing 4 months ( and mountains) of rust just in a flash.

Rust never sleeps , a Canadian legend once sang.

No matter how many times you repeat this, it's still not going to make it true.

Also please stop making light of Yuzuru's injury. It is not an easy one, these things take time to heal first, then he needs to be careful how he progresses and increases his training not to re-injure himself, never mind actually getting at least 3 different quads back, and the stamina to skate at least a 2+4 set of programs, if not a 2+5. Do you think quads are just candies, that you pick up after you've dropped them? Do you think stamina is?
Yuzuru is immensely talented but he's a human being, with limitations of a human body. He would have gone to 4CC if he could have, and yes, he would have been chosen, but he's not a God. Even going by everything we know, he is probably only around 4T now, or there about and still very much working on stamina. 4CC is just not an option.

Can we stop a moment from speculating coz honestly we don't have any clue how Yuzu right know.

All I know is Brian's hair looked thicker than usual, I'll take it as a sign that maybe Yuzu has been well behave 😂

Haha what a keen observation! I was thinking his hair really had thinned over the years the other day, too!

Maybe the minimal travel this season has helped him regain some healthy hair.

I’ll also add that I’m not going to speculate at this point unless we get some new info. I’m stressed enough as it is planning for the Olympics.

That's not entirely true. We know he's back on ice, which means he's healthy, which knock on wood is what matters. Fingers crossed for the rest.
I don't see an issue with speculation about how he's doing, as we're on a discussion board and there are some things that we know about him and how he attains forms/recovers quads/etc.

I 100% believe that if Yuzu had told JSF that he wanted to go to 4CC to avoid being 'rusty' he would have been send. Yuzu and his coaches know best and know what's actually going on, so there's literally no reason to believe that he so badly wanted to go to 4CC and was denied the opportunity.

I understand from your posts that you see JSF as super negative and almost anti-Yuzuru, which is your opinion and that's fine, but honestly I find it way more likely to believe that:
a) Yuzu has been on radio silence because he doesn't want added pressure and stress to his recovery, and tbh he's almost always on radio silence even when he's not recovering from a serious injury
b) Yuzu doesn't want to go to 4CC because he only wants to focus on the OG, and he would waste precious time traveling etc. He's good enough and mature enough to know whether he needs that competition or not.

Oda and Kanako appears in the talk show on TV and will be aired on tomorrow's evening (15th), Oda seems to have talked about Yuzuru.

Oda says he and Yuzuru talks a lot, mostly about figure skating because Yuzuru loves skating, but they also have talked about what kind of girl they liked. Yuzuru likes Yui Aragaki and Oda also loves her, so when Oda was watching TV drama called "Nigeruwahajidaga, Yakunitatsu", he promised Yuzuru on LINE to dance "Koi dance" together which was the theme song of the drama.

I'm looking forward to seeing the whole episode!

Agree, radio silence is like the default mode, he only appear when he needs to. As the world No. 1 male figure skater, JSF would respect his decision to not go to 4CC (same if he wants to go). Back at Japan Nat, he just got back on ice, it’s very unclear back in that time if he could recover on time before 4CC, I take it as a good indication that Yuzu and his team is aiming at the ultimate goal and remove as much uncertainty as they could before getting there. One of the main reasons of going to competitions is building the PCS along the season, with 2 recycled programs, Yuzu & his team knows that they don’t need to do that. Therefore, it is reasonable that the top priority would be his recovery (well, it should always be, but if Yuzu got one new program to breed and build this season, he might wanted more competitions, we never know).

Who doesn’t love Yui Aragaki?! I love her as well, can’t wait to see the program, Oda + Kanako is always very funny together.

Yeah! and speculating help us ease our wild imagination  For me, I think this is a positive indicator that Yuzuru for once truly waited for the injury to properly heal and don't take any chances of started skating too early without waiting for the injury to really heal. We have seen before how impatient Yuzuru can be.

I for one a practitioner of negative presumptions, for example with the time left until Olympic from when Yuzuru started to be on the ice, I don't think he will get the gold so with that prediction I can calm myself and not to put too much pressure on Yuzuru. I'm a coward like that. So that if Yuzuru DID get gold then the result is way better than my expectation which is ecstatic and if he didn't get the Gold then it fits my expectation which will not crush my heart too much. It's a poor practice and showed as if I don't believe in Yuzuru but that's the only way I can deal with all the excitement of waiting and speculating. One thing for certain if anyone can pull off unexpected outcomes in this kind of situation it would be Yuzuru. This is why I'm not an athlete :laugh2: My heart is not strong to take pressure!

I have prepared myself well for any outcome, from WD to Gold medal :palmf:

I finished watching the documentary on NTV, there was no new information about Yuzuru's injury, but the narration said "he started practicing on the ice this month" and Yomiuri newspaper of January 14 also said the same thing. NTV and Yomiuri are affiliated, so I wonder if they know something more how his training has been going, but personally I will not thinking about it too much because we know Yuzuru has been on the ice now.

There were interviews after ACI and CoR we had not seen before, after CoR, he was so satisfied with the layout including 4Lz and couldn't stop grinning looking at the protocol, and was drinking Coke! And he said he had not visited Niagara Falls (yet!) and didn't go downtown very often...that means, his life in Toronto has not changed since he was 17

Now I'll go to bed, it was a little sad to see but a good program overall. I hope Yuzuru has been doing well in Toronto :)

Now I'm a bit confused. Did he start practicing on ice in December or only in January?

Since we don't know what NTV's "practice" means, Japanese fans are not talking or panicking about it as far as I know. I think Yuzuru started practicing on the ice in December, but it must have been a part of rehabilitation, too, so it is possible to be on and off the ice back and forth. I hope this means he and his team are taking these period step by step very cautiously.
