That's how you can transliterate it, really. i before ia. Although I prefer it with just one i.Great, they managed to screw up her name. Evgeniia

One thing I wish they did is transliterate her first name as Yevgenia, to be honest. It just sounds terrible when it's not pronounced like that. It's almost as bad as "Ekaterina" not being pronounced as "Yekaterina" - Completely ruins the name.
I would have rather transliterated it as "Evgeniya" instead. That's how you can transliterate it, really. i before ia. Although I prefer it with just one i.

That’s really sweet. Those two girls are a great example of true sportsmanship.https://www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/game-time/results/OWG2018/en/figure-skating/athlete-profile-n3036248-alina-zagitova.htm
wow alina listed zhenya as her hero. dont know that
In Bulgarian we only have a hard 'E' and use that instead of the russian 'YE' to say names like Evgenia and Ekaterina (which are popular here as well). So to me Yevgeniya sounds unusual....And the two languages are very similar, mind you. Goes to show how tricky these things can be, kudos to everyone who tries to pronounce names the way they are by natives to said language. It's fine if you simply can not articulate a foreign sound the right way, but a basic respect is nice, instead of the "I'm gonna butcher the name anyway so I'm not even gonna try" mentality.

Really? :O Do you think so? Even more than Ukrainian and Belarusian?By the way, written Bulgarian is the most intelligible foreign language for a Russian, even more so than Ukrainian or Belarusian. No wonder you prefer a spelling that is close to the original.
