Yulia Lipnitskaya

I’ve been following Polina Shelepen’s transformation from competitive skater to coach and she’s been doing awesome!! She posts the coolest videos showing her students workouts, skill development, and having fun. Stuff like this.

I too hope Yulia will be a great choreographer someday. I think she can do both coach and choreograph and especially at this beginning stage where she’s likley going to work with lower level skaters. I noticed they are doing 6 days of choreography class. Maybe she’ll like it a lot. We already know she has choreographed some of her Exhibitions and I remember Marina saying how impressed she was with her detail and involvement in coming up with that Beyoncé EX.

I think she is on a great path and I’m just so happy to see her enjoying the sport. Her level headed honesty will be great for the students she teachers.

Also, she will have to put the skating boots on, right? :dance3:
The ones she did throw away and hasn't looked at ever again.

And we all know what may happen whe she feel the ice under her feet again... :dev3:
SHOWS ARE COMING!!! :yahoo:

Where is Alba? Surely she must be aware...they are her two faves after all :yahoo:

This is so important. Yulia did her own exhibitions, and she choreographed more than exhibitions. Eteri said she choreographed much of her upper body movement herself because that's where she expressed her feelings. Schindler's List was Yulia's music and mostly Yulia-Eteri's choreo. Averbukh came late (he was low on the list of prospective chorerographers), he added finishing touches especially involving mime, such as opening/closing movement & cradling the baby. Both Yulia and Eteri appreciated his contributions. Then the following year brought conflict. Averbukh complained that he was the professional but Yulia would not take his orders. The central issue was that Averbukh refused to give Yulia enough creative freedom to express herself, and for Yulia expressing her feelings was not negotiable. His choices did not resonate with her. She was fine with Marina Zueva and Urmanov because in both cases they worked collaboratively with Yulia on her level. Marina said "All the group was very welcoming and respectful to Yulia. The music picking process was quite fast and well synched. Perhaps because both sides were open for suggestions. It was very nice and interesting working with her. All her remarks on the choreography seemed right to me. It was not the silly`will-will not'`want-want not'." Yulia described Marina as a woman with soul. Creative collaboration with mutual respect is the key. Yulia reminds me a lot of Gubanova. Both continuously shaped their programs in close collaboration with coach and choreographer until they arrived at an acceptable form. You never knew what to expect in the next performance, but it's always interesting, even exciting. They worked from inside, searching intuitively for satisfying expression. Yulia would be fantastic for the Gubanovas, far less effective for the Medvedevas. Yulia knows better than anyone the consequences of denying the creative spirit in musically gifted skaters with Romantic personalities. Yulia can make a huge contribution, I can see this becoming her passion, her mission. Let's hope this experiment works out.

We may owe a lot of this to Elena Ilinykh. Yulia once remarked that nobody can lift her spirits like Elena. Elena understands Yulia very well, perhaps she hopes to guide Yulia toward a life that will be fulfilling to Yulia and uplifting to many thousands who (like me) miss Yulia's specialness in a really profound way.

I do think Elena really was a decisive factor in this, she maybe even have plans about this beforehand. It's great that Yulia will be again involved in the sport, I hope it won't be a trigger for her, since anorexia is really hard to shake off, even after therapy. She has so many things to give, especially as a choreographer! Congrats on their new endeavors!

Yay! I'm very glad she'll be setting foot in the ice again. She's been for me an inspiration. She was my favorite female skater, and was very sad about her retirement —but, of course, her mental health is way more important. Still, for the little time she was on the top, she left so many moments in her programs.... They were, and are, mesmerizing to watch.
This is the third drawing I do of her, but the first I dare to put here :P She is a beautiful girl, and so it's difficult to actually do her justice, and since my drawings of skaters are usually quick sketches... Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, I did my best :)

PS (edit): I'm aware that she favored the tights-over-boot aesthetic and it actually didn't look bad in her, but I really like drawing skating boots, so...
