2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Probably she is on radars already, the youngest girl who made it in the top 24, with great skating skills. I hope in the next season she will move to Eteri.

 That was awesome combo! The second jump there is like a new kind of jump - the jumpspin! [emoji848]

☹️

jumpsin! I'm dead! you killed me, puremagic! :dbana:

I just noticed that if Evgenia, Alina and Maria sweep the medals, it will be the first time in Olympic history that one country has gotten a clean sweep in ladies.

In men it happened twice: 1908 (Sweden) and 1956 (USA).

yes, but it is highly unlikely that Maria will beat all non-Russian contenders

Never say never. How likely it was the last time that Adelina would win ladies? There were several stronger skaters but they did not deliver.

By the way, I have a good advice for all of you, it's called, 'how to save your nerves when you're watching figure skating'. And it's not related with an alcohol at all!

All is simple! Just place your bets on those skaters, which can beat your favorites! That's all! In the bad case you will get some easy money. (and you can spend them on booze later!) Or, if everything is alright, you won't regret about losing your little money.

Very convenient! I've already placed some bets. :o:

The reality also is that she's already better than anyone has ever been at her age - Including every top talent you can include. Obviously you can't predict these things perfectly 3 years in advance, but the reality is that she's the best skater out of the ones born after 2004 already, despite being a 2007.
No skater born after 2004 is even close to Akatieva talent-wise, including Kanysheva, who's a very good skater and will probably slay in JGP next year.
I often smirk, watching Sofia jumping mandatory combo doubles or easier triples, it's like kindergarten stuff for her. She also has a great promise regarding her physique, very slim yet strong, narrow hips - super fast rotator, good vertical jump. At this very moment, she undoubtfully looks like a best novice promise out there.

i have the same feeling about akatieva. she looks more promising to me than samodelkina, and not just because of her coach
Totally agree, she's ten times more promissing.

True... But if you compare her skating here and now... She's not a feather anymore. She's still flying on the ice, but not so fast and not so flawless as before...
One of the greatest novice's skates ever and first novice overall +200 score (correct me if I'm wrong).

I don't think it will happen but its certainly not impossible. Maria has beaten all the non-Russian contenders at one point this season. She beat Kaetlyn in France and at the GPF. She beat the top Japanese girls at the GPF in Japan. And she beat Carolina at Finlandia, GPF and the Euros LP.

Considering the issues the other girls consistently have Maria could easily Sarah Hughes her way to a Bronze

All contenders have the goods. The pressure is the main factor as we can see it from men's team splatfest

Would you bother after/during Olympics make an analysis of the stsq's lvl 4? Because we all know (I don't wanna mention them here, because this thread is not about them) skaters with weak stsq's along with their weak skating skills, and at least four of them are Olympics medal contenders. After Olympics 2014, one user made a thread like, "Why Sotnikova's stsq lvl 4 is wrong", where he made an analysis of each element of her stsq. I wonder how many girls will get fake lvl 4 at their stsq's at the Olympics 2018.

^ I guess I can try to do what I can but it'd be limited to just the fulfilment of "complexity" aka analysis of every difficult turn and step(twizzle, bracket, loop, counter, rocker, choctaw).

The main thing seems to be how strict they are about some of the turns. In some competitions like 4CC and Euros, the tech panel is clearly checking that all the edges are fully there and there's no jumping instead of turning. But earlier this year and then at the men's team event, they were back to doing less detailed analysis and we saw a lot more StSq4. So unfortunate. They should just stick to a strictness level.

it's interesting that TAT is always critical to kolyada, but praises konstantinova no matter what. but stasya and misha are sharing the same coach. so i think that stasya personally seduced TAT somehow. probably by saying that she's her favorite person in figure skating and the best coach on the planet earth.
so TAT are pushing staysa not because she's playing some political game, but because she thinks that stasya is a sweet girl.
but that's just my theory
