2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

it's interesting that TAT is always critical to kolyada, but praises konstantinova no matter what. but stasya and misha are sharing the same coach. so i think that stasya personally seduced TAT somehow. probably by saying that she's her favorite person in figure skating and the best coach on the planet earth.
so TAT are pushing staysa not because she's playing some political game, but because she thinks that stasya is a sweet girl.
but that's just my theory

Stasya indeed is a sweet girl, but as a skater... not so good

No skater born after 2004 is even close to Akatieva talent-wise, including Kanysheva, who's a very good skater and will probably slay in JGP next year.
I often smirk, watching Sofia jumping mandatory combo doubles or easier triples, it's like kindergarten stuff for her. She also has a great promise regarding her physique, very slim yet strong, narrow hips - super fast rotator, good vertical jump. At this very moment, she undoubtfully looks like a best novice promise out there.
Well, I consider her the most talented ladies' jumper of all time, as I've said multiple times. I don't know if you consider me some Akatieva hater or whatever but that's completely false... Actually, I found her FS quite enjoyable to watch here overall. She's been stuck with a pair of very poor programs, and while I still am not in general a fan of the style of her FS, it does seem to work much better. And I also was impressed by how she carries that look. Because I don't think it's one that's going to work for everyone.

What I'm not really trying to make a point of is "Samodelkina > Akatieva" because I still think that Akatieva will be clearly the most dominant of the three(I don't think I've ever said otherwise). But that Samodelkina also is a very special talent herself. It doesn't need to be about picking sides here. Samodelkina will also be in JGP a year before Akatieva, after a serious talent drought. One has to wonder how that's going to affect her scores and establishment.

And just to be clear, in terms of purely how -talented- the girls are as a whole, I have them Akatieva > Berestovskaya > Samodelkina. But that does not mean that Samodelkina isn't a very special talent herself. I really don't know why it'd not be possible to be excited about all three, for different reasons.

Well, that's because you wrote something quite different yesterday:
The reality also is that she's already better than anyone has ever been at her age - Including every top talent you can include. Obviously you can't predict these things perfectly 3 years in advance, but the reality is that she's the best skater out of the ones born after 2004 already, despite being a 2007.

You got me confused. :scratch3:

Akatieva and Berestovskaya have never been her age - I was not talking about them in that post. Berestovskaya especially is almost a full year younger than Samodelkina.

It's true that I did not make that clear enough, I'm sorry for that.

Ugh, I really need to see the FS protocols! You wouldn't want to know how many times I've refreshed the site. I realize it's a lot to ask to have them come out a few hours after the competition but aah it's driving me crazy...

Well those medals could be a nice bonus, but i still consider their own disciplines to be much more important. Let's be honest, "gold medalist in a team event" doesn't sound nearly as good as just "gold medalist"

Yeah, thanks, I feel a little bit better right now... You're really right here. Yulia Lip is as well an Olympic champion in the team event, but usually nobody ever mentions that. It says something about the status of this competition and event overall... So I guess I can sleep after bad results there... 😢

Trust me...that medal means a lot more than some fans give it credit for. All Olympic moments are equal in value. I can’t think of a another sport where anyone would say a team medal is less valuable or even relunctantly embraced. Leave it to figure skating fans to be hypercritical of something good for the sport and devalue the extra opportunity for it’s athletes and the sport to gain recognition. I just hope they move it to after the individual event at some point. I’d love to see the team event used for some revenge and redemption skates.

So now officially all chances for the gold Olympics medals in the team event for both Alina and Zhenya are gone. 😪

Sorry guys, no Candyman for you in team event (T/M will skip team FS). Z/E will replace S/K, not T/M.

I started to doubt about it, when for swimming or relays one athlete can get 38947385 medals, and be 100X time Olympic champion, but for sports like Rhythmic Gymnastics and Figure Skating, where are also many disciplines, you can count only for two medals (in RG for only one, individual/group), and moreover the second one not only depends on you. Really a shame and unfair, when I'm trying to compare it. Ugh.

Edit: Oh, first time I've read, "All Olympic medals are equal in value." I'm getting blind. :disapp:

It is really really sad but I hope it will be a bit less pressure on our ladies shoulders in team event (trying to comfort myself with this mantra).

I think it will all depend on what teams other countries will to FS. TBH I didn't expect T/M to be first in SP and it's Olys where everything can happen. Did anybody expect Uno, Bychenko, Chan podium in men's SP? I think not.

Yeah, I just was thinking about that, and actually, it's not Kolyada or Z/E, it's pathetic Russian dance' state, this is what will bury team Olympics gold medals for Alina and Zhenya, and probably even silver.

Even with this hole in talent in 2005-2006, there will still be too many good skaters for them to all get JGP’s:
Alena Kanysheva
Ksenia Sinitsyna
Ksenia Chistyakova
Daria Usacheva
Anna Shabotova
Maya Kromykh
Anna Frolova
Kamila Valieva
Kamila Sultanmagomedova (are you a fan of Russian ladies? prove it by spelling that name without looking!)
And Anna Shcherbakova will probably be in juniors for the next two seasons...
