2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens FS

Johnny calling Cha Juniorish without any quick tips on what he could change is just glib in my opinion

Couldn't give him quick tips because he skates far better than either of them did at their "peak".

(I'm joking, but they're awful, awful commentators. And I think he's better than Tara was.)

You don’t get pity points. I’m sorry, but that’s insane. If he wanted to truly climb back into contention, he needed to turn in a skate as good as Hanyu’s world-record “Hope & Legacy” performance. He didn’t. He absolutely didn’t.

And thanks to Chen’s inflation, Chan is absolutely screwed. The only way anyone is getting high PCS now is with sufficient TES and so much obvious artistry that a low PCS score is going to create a Adelina-Yuna II situation.

You know, I didn’t hate him before, and this isn’t even his fault, but Nathan Chen has ruined this night, and I hope he finishes as low as possible, even if that is fifth (which is still too high).

Ruined it... by attempting six quads and landing 5. I'd like what you're on please. This is NOT an Adelina-Yuna II situation. Period.

I don't agree with Johnny's assessment. Jorik has this lovely, smooth, elegant quality to his skating. If anything, I think his PCS should be higher than it is...

Jorik is having a wonderful Olympic experience..very good short and long. Hope his sister Loena has the same experience.

Pleasant surprise. Nice performance, better than I expected of him. He was so into it, who actually paid attention to deliver the music..

I do always enjoy Jorik's absolute UBER!TRAUMA!DRAMA! approach to everything.

You can just imagine him, say, ordering fast food like it was the final scene of Hamlet.

:drama:

I’m not mad at Chen, but his skate has turned tonight from something I was really excited for into the kind of competition a lot of us were afraid of, and it’s extremely difficult (if not impossible) to defend those marks. That Uno and Boyang have no room for error when Chen has fallen four times total and shown minimal skating skills... it’s just extremely frustrating.

All of this.

Gorgeous skate, Jorick! I love the passion he skates with, face, movement, feeling the music. I first became his fan with Titanic in 2016 Boston. Yes, Titanic! He skates music the way it's meant to be felt.

And green squares all the way across. Well, almost.

I really want Uno or Boyang or both (gosh I wish 4 could get on the podium) to get on the podium! Their SPs were some of the best we've seen out of them and I know that even though no one deserves a medal inherently, I think those two really have earned a spot as a medalist.

Wow at Zhou just casually doing 4z-3t at warmup with barely any speed

Eerything is easier at slow speed. That's why Chen starts skating only after the last jump. Given it involve two spins, there's not much skating at all.

I wish we could see again real nice big quads. Much more exciting than these tiny jumps with no speed in or out and usually some small or big mistakes on them. It gives the sames points it seems if you're from the US.
Too bad Lysacek never could land one.

:sarcasm: Great, now Tara and Johnny are going on nonstop about how unbeatable Nathan is. Can they please say something nice about anyone else? Nope, it'll just be endless remarks about how all others lack quads, and just can't compete. :noshake:

But yay, almost Keegan time!!! :cheer: I hope he has a great performance like my other fave, Alexei

Jesus I missed half of Jorik's FS and still couldn't properly concetrate on it.

Great to see him skating well!

Yay Jorik. Like his costume too.Though it is sparkly but not too Elvis Presley. I liked the program and yes well balanced as Kurt and Carol? keep saying. But after seeing it and the scores versus Nathan - I have to say I kind of think those quads are worth way too much; there was a program here. While Nathan has improved his quality the program isn't so much there despite all the money he has been given or put into developing - choreo costumes and all.

Rude of Dick Button as Australia in a whole is not a winter sports nation and any funding winter sports gets, it goes to snow boarders and other outdoor events, figure skating is barely mentioned. But hey we've at least managed to get on the medal tally with 2 silvers and a bronze so we're not all that doomed.

Especially it wasn't until this season that the first Australian NHL player took NHL ice (Nathan Walker. In the Washington Capitals organization, but he plays for their AHL affiliate the Hershey Bears).

I don't envy Yuzu's and Mao's positions, being the focus of a nation's hope and pressure, and Mao having done it since very very young, especially. Getting peeping cams on you even when you're practicing backstage is unsettling and they got massive concentration being able to tune those cam crews out.

And yet when the camera focuses a bit on the other nihon daihyous Yuzu fans scream bloody murder. Let the guy get time off from the camera, will ya.
