2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens FS

Sorry to interrupt but, does anyone know when they will receive their medals? And if it will be shown somewhere?

How many team jackets does Brian Orser travel with?

Congratulations to all the medallists!!! Very happy for Javi! I have to wonder if he could have fought for gold if he hadn't popped the quad Salchow. But top 4 held it together marvellously under so much pressure.

I hope Kolyada can come back from the disappointment next season, and I can't wait to see more of the newer guys in the earlier groups in the future :)))

I dont respect Yuzuru coz he chosed the easier way, that program was good form 3 years ago when it was made, not now. He knew that with easier program he will be the winner anyway
The fact that Hanyu can skate again is a miracle. You don't respect someone who is going to the Olympic with painkiller and yet still did better than everyone in both programs in total. Good for you.

The rest of skating world have more than enough respect for Hanyu. No need from you.

Quoting from Hanyu's thread:
Yes, Yomiuri newspaper reported this morning that he started jumping quad 10 days before the competition, but it didn't mean that he was fully healed and he had to take potent medicine to calm down his pain. I was very shocked reading this but I didn't post it here because I thought it was better not to since it was just right before FS and we needed to be positive and supportive for him. And I also thought we'll get more information later from Yuzuru directly.

So happy for Javi. I live in Spain and have a soft spot for all Spanish athletes, whichever sport they practice. I have hoped for Olympic medal for Javi since his first top 10 in Europeans a good couple of years ago. Together with my husband and mother-in-law I saw him in two Grand Prix Finals in Barcelona and after the Sochi disappointment we desired this medal for him. With the emerging youngsters, the quad battle and the way this season Javi competed, I sincerely doubted he would reach the podium. But, as the case of Aliona proved, never give up on the veterans and people with jaw-dropping determination to achieve their goals.
It's worth mentioning that Javi's medal is only the fourth WOG medal for Spain. Until this Olympiad, Spain only enjoyed 1 gold from Sapporo and 1 bronze from Albertville (interesting to know that both medals were won by a brother and a sister). Two days ago other bronze medal was gained in snowboard and today the statistics was improved by Javi.

Of course, so proud of Hanyu for his second historic gold medal and congratulations to Shoma (although I would rather see him with the bronze medal).

By the way, until now all my dreams regarding the podium are becoming true: gold for the Canada team, gold for Aljona and Bruno, medal for Javi. The only dream that is left is the second individual Olympic gold medal for Tessa and Scoot. I don't follow the ladies, although it would be fun and incredible if grandma Carolina, following Sochi example, had another skating of her life and grabbed the bronze medal.

You were part of those GPF audiences? Well bravo you. Wonderful, warm, responsive audiences cheering everyone on.

:thank:

It just seems incredibly rude to single out Boyang and go on and on about his programs having nothing but crossovers while completely ignoring Nathan and Vincent's crossovers-and-quads fests (and truthfully, Adam is a bit heavy on the crossovers, too, in my opinion :slink:). :(

This. Two years ago I would've never defended Boyang Jin's PCS, but he has improved so much since then and now I genuinely think that he is much better than Nathan and Vincent when it comes to both jumps and program components. Nathan's program today was incredibly empty. Yes he landed 6 quads but he did not land them well, nor did he do much else besides jumping.

People are allowed to have their preferences. It's not a crime to like the athleticism of figure skating over the artistry.

That's right! And my preference is quads that combine perfect athletic technique and landings that flow like Javi, Yuzu and Kolyada when he lands them.

I am so happy for javier. He got his medal. FEel bad for Patrick; just not competitive and finished. Sad to see Kolyada skate so badly and with no style - sorry i don't know how Adam and Patrick didn't beat him.

Delighted for Javi. For a moment I feared that he may end up as Kurt Browning.

He should have won silver though, Uno bronze. Uno didn't even care for silver.

Boyang did a great job tonight, and I'm so proud of him. He's really achieved a huge accomplishment in polishing his skating skills and overall artistry. His PCS in the FS was too low in comparison with others like Aliev, who is a gorgeous skater but delivered a pained performance in which he was sadly struggling. Even so, the final placement is correct as Boyang made a mistake that he couldn't afford. A few more points in PCS in the SP and the FS wouldn't have made a difference in the overall placement. However, I believe those who claim that he is systematically underscored in PCS in comparison with others in the field are correct. He is a very high caliber performer. He lacks the undeniably dynamic and emotionally complicated power of Yuzuru Hanyu, but I will take Boyang's subtle, detailed and emotionally honest performance style over any showboat in the roster. The FS this season isn't on the same level as the SP, but I believe that has most the do with the quality of the vehicle.

Bravo on an amazing Olympics for Boyang! May his star continue to rise.

You look at it from medal at majors. Having an OFF night or two might be crumbling to you but I charged it to experience. He figured it out tonight. Didn't he?

How about putting yourself in the OLYMPIC RECORD BOOK? Doesn't it take mental toughness too?

I'm not getting offended by any of you. Just having an adult conversation if that's alright?
Ok2 whatever you want to believe. Your tone is very defensive in defending Nathan.

I dont even defend my 3X Olympic silver medalist countryman that way, I'll be clobbered. He fought hard but still lost in the end what. I support him whenever he's competing but know the reality.

At the end of day, its the ultimate end results that matter to most people(as in 90% of people who follow other sports) not just me.

Maybe I'm misguided, but I see all these athletes pushing quads after quads while sacrificing the artistry, and it looks awkward, jerky, stilted, stunted, abrupt. It takes out the beauty of the figure (athlete) skating/dancing the program. The artistry is what sets figure skating apart from the rest of the winter sports. That shouldn't be compromise for some snowboard-ish excitement.

I agree. I think there should be a limit on the # of quads, maybe 2 or 3 so we can still get balanced artistic programs

I personally thought Javi's was the most artistic of the 3. If I had to rank medals only on PCS, it would be Javi, Yuzu, and then Shoma.

Chen had a wonderfully musical step sequence with interesting choreography and skated ON THE BEAT. No, it's not the whole program but it's a significant advance over last year's program. BOTH he and Jin made big strides in their components this year, particularly when you compare their components to their first year as Seniors.

Vincent's artistry is still at the junior level. But then it's also HIS first year as a Senior.

Really I know people want to boost their personal faves, but credit where credit is due please!

I'm sure Dick Button heard the same argument the first year he started doing triples.

Some things. Never change.

Just looked at the protocols. It's clear that Jin Boyang was held down in GOEs. He will always have to work twice as hard as the other top competitors. :ohwell:

Dude, your main squeeze himself said that bombing the short took all the pressure off. End of discussion.

Hanyu: Without Javi, I would not have come to Canada. Because of him, I was really able to incorporate the 4S and 4T in my program. Without him, training would have been so hard, I would not have been able to bear it. #PyeongChang2018

*SOB* Don't retire Javi!!

Talk about sportsmanship, camaraderie, respect and investment into relationship - he's not only a champion of the discipline, but also a champion ABOUT it. The two of them have taken each other into new grounds and proved that there can be a high level of mutual respect and motivation on par with technical excellence.
