2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens FS

Shoma kind of reminds me of my 3 year old when he is all bundled up in his winter gear And we have to walk somewhere.

Also the highest GOE are not used to calculate the average so how can one Chinese judge make much difference.

Yes one score is deleted but it could still affect results in a tight race because maybe another score would have been the outlier and dropped. Like if you judged fairly and judged it a 2 and another judge it a 2.1, the 2.1 would be dropped not yours. Now, by giving a 3, the skater has a 2.1 and not a 2 when they do the calculation. This kind of thing went on with Sara Cohen, Michele Kwan and Slutskiva where the Russians were anomalies in the scoring affected which scores were deleted though that was in the old day of placements. I don't recall if that ended up affeting the medals but in the documentary on the 2002 olympics they talked about it and about how even when you do dropped scores judges being anomalies can affect results. Otherwise why even do it.I guess to please national federations but that defeats the whole purpose behind the skating reforms after salt lake and anonymous judging.

I don't know if in this case that affected the placement between nathan and boliang since it was really close. I don't think so but it does have the potential if the scores are really close. Boliang deserved to be placed above nathan given he performed good both times but still would not be right if it's true that the chinese judge did that.

Just watched the medal ceremony. Both Yuzu and Javi was so happy and so was I.
Shoma still looks shocked. It's kinda cute but weird. :scratch2::luv17:
:yahoo:

me,me,Me,MEEEEE, those two comments combined are me-Federer,sui/han,yuzuru the three loves of my life!

My ex (still friends) is a Patrick Chan fan who has never liked Yuzu (in 2014 he was like "enjoy it because this will be his peak"), and always disliked RF too. I gloated to him today :dev2:

Is this the first time you've seen Shoma outside of competition? That's the way he looks. He's never grinning from ear to ear.
Remember Yuzuru "forcing" Shoma to smile for the camera at the 2015-16 GPF? Shoma seems to be a very reserved person.

I'm still so happy this morning. What a night!
On a side note guys, anyone been on instagram lately? A serious question, if Hanyu retires before Shoma Uno, who is going to look after Shoma? LOL!
A huge congrats to all the medalists, and Boyang too.

THIS

I watched them during the medal ceremony and Uno looked like such a lost little young brother looking over at Niichan to see what to do. It's adorbs if not a little weird. :laugh2:

Paul Wylie said this in USA Today article about nathan: "But I’m wondering if he had too many variables going into the day: switching between boots, planned program elements changing, driving to rinks to train alone, even the presser the afternoon before."

What was going on with his boots? again? Also brennan noted he scheduled a news conference a day before the competition which was a rarity. Whose idea was that? nbc? usfsu?

i wonder if that's the reason Rafael said "it's complicated" when asked why nathan did not do well.

why were they training 2 hours away? i could see for the ladies or dance it would be ok, but for men it's kinda tight with time after the team event. why not train in seoul which is where I think canadians went? wouldn't that be closer? why was he training alone?

what reason would there be to change the jumps?

Someone is probably having a shouting match today. I wonder too if the coach really did not have experience dealing with all the pre-olympic stuff to be able to properly prepare him. There's a reason Orser is so successful in this regard - his skaters look like they are in the zone and no one had more pressure than Hanyu.

if ice dancers don't pull through and barring a miracle in the ladies US will leave without any individual medals. Plus worse showing ever in pairs I think and quite possiblly worst in ladies with potentialy no US lady even in the top 5 or maybe even top 10 if it's a complete disaster. Has that ever happened? If these things are true about Nathan, there's going to be alot of discussion at usfsu about what they did wrong. Were they banking on wrong people? (too much ashley, not enough Mira and Bradie? too much Jason and not giving Zhou worlds experience? Alot of introspection to go on if the results end up being the worst ever.

It was me, maybe? Sorry, but its not program for 2018 year. it was good in 2015 . Now Hanyu is better skater and is able to do muchbetter. He jus snoozing around doing nothing, step sequece is slow. This middle section is quite boring.HE chosed simple program coz he knows that he will be given high PCs to him anyway , for any program. Shame that he didnt do something new , something harder. Chopin is fantastic, Sensei is not. And odd that he repeated two programs, no one from top 5 did that.Every skater had new programs.:palmf: They should change that( i mean being able to keep only one program)

Seriously I just don't know how to respond comments like this  Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

To all the people complaining about Nathan's GOE and PCS, everyone has known that the judging and awarding of GOE and PCS has been broken for a long time. As others have pointed out, he has received better GOE and PCS for similar quadfests with empty programs. It should come as no surprise that he received the GOE and PCS he got. It doesn't matter whether he deserved the scores or not as written in the COP. The judges have been giving him such GOE and PCS for a while and will continue to do so. It's not Nathan's fault that the judges are giving him these scores. He's taking advantage of the current system and it makes no sense for him to change that if it will give him high scores.

Therefore, the answer for others is that they can take advantage of the system in a similar way. Yuzu, Boyang and Shoma are all capable of doing programs with 5-6 quads + 1 or 2 triple axels with only crossovers between the jumps and then tacking on the step sequences and spins. In fact, they could all probably do Nathan's program if they changed up the jumps/combos as needed and just skated it to different music. It would be boring but they should get similar or better GOE and similar PCS or the judges would be caught out.

If Nathan starts winning over them with his quad filled but empty programs, then it is their own fault if they don't change their layouts to take advantage of the judging in the same way.

Nah, Yuzuru gifted Nathan the FP by being injured.

So long as Hanyu skated after nathan Hanyu would have still won no matter what. he would have changed his program to combat a more threatening chen. And nathan might have been hurt more with pcs skating back to back in the last group. i know judges should know better but being in the first group could have helped nathan "look better" because even on a personal level, if there's a situation where it could go either way judges may have giving him a little boost given what happened in short program since they figured he would not win anyway but did not deserve to be in 17th place.

nathans lack of artistry would have been more evident back to back with hanyu, shoma and javi.

So maybe the ISU/IOC and every figure skating board should just change their scoring to 70% technical and 30% artistry/choreography? Or maybe let's ditch the music, costumes, choreography altogether then and have figure skateboarding. Sounds fun?

Also, people, I know YOU KNOW our figure skaters came from different parts of the world, so can we be decent enough to use their correct names, get their correct program titles/songs, especially GS has an edit button? Can we? Pretty please?

I feel like it is to a degree coaching team fault that Nathan got to this competition so unprepared. He was doing so much press and promotion instead of focusing on preparation. Even Medvedeva has not done that much PR. Rafael should have known better.

This is all in the past now.

Next season the GOE format will change to -5 to +5 range. We'll see the quality of those multiple quads from each skater. And that could be the deciding point of the winner.

Are they going to be +1,+2 type of quads?
Or +4,+5 type of quads?

In addition, those tiny details in spins and steps would be magnified with the wide range of GOE scoring.

SHAUN WHITE WINS FOURTH OLYMPIC GOLD IN FIGURE SKATING 2022! He'll introduced the double mctwist 1480 into the ice arena!

It's so true! Even the press conferences. I will be very worried for him! Hahaha. Someone needs to make a montage of them.

Wooooh!

(While US Olympic committee and everyone else forget that he has a pending harassment case against him.)

I was so afraid the free skate was going to be Sochi 2.0, and am beyond relieved that didn't turn out to be the case!! Thank you, gentlemen!

Congratulations to the Olympic medalists! Shoma will forever be the Silver Prince. Yuzu is in good company with Dick Button. Yet I am over the moon for Javi; after the disappointment of Worlds 2017 and the struggles during the first half of this season, his winning bronze feels like a fairy tale ending to an amazing career. His appearing so happy on the podium plus his hugs with Yuzu made me cry.

Hold up: I just noticed that the women get a day off in between but the men don't. How does that make sense scheduling-wise organizers?? Also, I think this day of rest before ice dance is nice but again I would have preferred if the men had a day off in between.

Amazing that they still held it together though! :yahoo::clap:

Queen Eugenia gets what she wants!
