Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Thank you very much for the ceremony link which is surprisingly not blocked :thank:
It's so fascinating for me to see other cultures. I found it so strange that everyone is so polite and quiet. We have the same level of respect to others especially people older than ourselves in our culture but it is absolutely impossible for people to stay this quiet during a ceremony  Even the presenter starts joking with the athletes and everyone in the audience finds something to cheer for even if they are CEOs or chairmen of some important organization. We just have too much energy to contain

The announcer asking the athletes to stand up and bow was so strange for me  Don't get me wrong please I don't have any bad intention with saying it, it's just an attitude that is so new and unfamiliar for me and as I said it's so interesting for me to see these different aspects of other cultures.

Announcement to stand up and bow starts from kindergarten for Japanese kids. It's always there for formal events.

Fuji TV was talking about the reward for the medalists, gold medalist is given 5,000,000 yen from JOC and 5,000,000 yen from JSF, so Yuzuru will be rewarded 10,000,000 yen in total. And ANA will give him "surprise present" in this evening.

In the next event starts in 5 minutes, the host is Shuzo Matsuoka lol

The same for us not bowing though, we just stand. I mean if I'm sitting behind my desk working and a Prof. older than me enters the room I stand up as a sign of paying respect to him. Similarly, in formal events when people notice older people stand up for them but it can not happen through an announcer. People find it insulting to be asked to respect someone else. They do it themselves but if they were asked by a third party they would 100% reject it. Guess it's a very confusing behaviour
