Hi everyone! I am also knew to posting in the thread, though I've been lurking for some time reading all of your comments and opinions. I'm so happy to find so many people who are as stoked as I am to be able to say Olympic Silver Medalist Shoma Uno! It fills me with so much joy, and nobody deserves it more than he does. Thank you for creating and participating in such a nice thread :D I'm excited to be able to be a part of it, too <3

Let us thank you for joining us. We are all filled with joy, and Shoma fans, they are a large in number, deeply feeling, passionate. :luv17:

Welcome to the fanfest, @Rayne and @someonestolemyshoes! Glad to hear from you! Tzigane was definitely a unique one, with 13- year old Shoma keeping up with the tempo and dynamics and the challenging step sequence.

Thanks, @demarinis! Fluffy is adorable. [emoji7] It only took me a month! [emoji1]

If there was a cat calendar, which 12 Shoma cat photos would you put for a 2019 one?

Now we're talking tough choices! Maybe it would have to be a combination cats & CK. Thx for that photo by the way. I forwarded it to CK along with a note!
I've said it before, but I'll say it again... I want to be like you when I grow up! [emoji16]

I do think they may have a yakiniku restaurant Shoma fan club. https://twitter.com/yawning_shoma/status/969681015244578816?s=19
I'm sure Shoma would love to be their endorser, with the payment of free yakiniku for a few years (or, a lifetime?)!

Plus, a Shoma and Sota throwback :

What would we do without yawning-shoma tweets. Love the Shoma Fan wall at the restaurant.

With more Shoma merchandise and magazines/mook coming out, any advice for fans from outside Japan who may have trouble navigating the Amazon Japan website and other retailers? (I don't buy anything from Amazon Japan because I'm too lazy to create an account.) I know a number of fans here have bought stuff from overseas.

Another throwback: The Ice 2017, with Shoma being called for a picture by his senpai, while he's changing out of his purple Lil top. https://twitter.com/pinksenshou7/status/969967740260724736?s=19

Thanks for voicing out my current dilemma, Latremu! I was wondering if anybody could help me buy some merch from Amazon JP.

I am dying for Shoma merch but my non existent Japanese reading skills wont take me anywhere! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Thanks in advance for anyone who can give me an advice!

Wait! How did we never notice that Calvin--er, I mean Shoma was singing during this EX at WTT?! Great English practice, Sho. He looks really happy here! https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf0lmBwjZFB/ (3 separate clips)

I just looked at this now. Cute close up of him singing. It's not that rare though, he does it often enough. He's always singing "See you again" during that program (in the beginning, before the hiphop sequence), plus he's been caught singing "Nessun dorma" (during Turandot 2 seasons ago, sadly not this season) and "piantao" during Loco. I don't remember it during This Town so I'm happy to see this.

No problem, shooting star, I hope someone can help you!

Re: Merch from Amazon

If you use phone to browse, you can scroll to the bottom of the page, they usually have the option to change language into English there. The translations are pretty Google-esque but you can navigate with them, I think.

kotaro share his pic with shoma and yura matsuda

woah they're having fun.

Can I please be Yura Matsuda????!!! They all always look like they have fun when they go places together. Looks like Sho's bowling has stayed about the same! Nice gutter ball! :laugh2: He and I would make a great team!

More bowling! I had totally forgotten about Sho and his bowling adventures. Hopefully he did better than at his Chicago bowling experience. Although note the difference in the scores between Games 1 & 2! It probably killed him to be last in Game 1 !

I had the same problems at first with Amazon Japan but found how to switch it to English. Both times I ordered, the transactions were very easy and arrived safely. It annoyed me a little that the shipping was $10, but I suppose that's probably not really all that bad!

I remember the first time I ever saw Sho was when he debuted at Sk Amer and thinking "Ok kid, cool it with the singing." I think he gets bored though! Gotta do something to stay interested. I'll have to watch the "See You Again" more closely.

It would be amazing if Shoma won a Worlds title and ensure that people will no longer overlook his abilities. Prior to the Olympics, I felt like not many people thought that he was a contender for a medal let alone the gold despite being the reigning world silver medalist. It was confusing to me because I've always felt that Yuzu, Javi, Shoma, and Patrick (when he actually hits his content) belonged in a class of their own and the other men were a tier below :scratch3:.

Lol, the Olympics predictions thread was a prime example of that. Some people were even predicting he wouldn't be on the podium, or that he'd be 6th or lower! I guess they don't believe in basing their predictions on evidence. [emoji39] But then, even the "professional" predicters (FS media etc) were all over the place, so it's all silliness.

That was such a confusing thing to me. I understand maybe not betting on him for gold, I guess, but off the podium when he had the best scores of the entire season? He was still the only guy who'd had two 300+ scores in the season and his SP was really steady, despite occasional issues with the combo. And he was back on an upward curve by 4CC, which continued at the Olympics. Will he continue to rise to Lombardia-like levels at Worlds to finish the curve?... stay tuned in a couple of weeks to find out!

I've been catching up on some media since I've been home and I ran across a Sports Illustrated article with an interview of Tara. I swear it read like the Olympics was actually Nationals, except they had ceded to the Russians for the ladies, but you'd better believe they tried to make it seem like we had a realistic shot at bronze. And poor Nate who couldn't even call himself a world medalist going in was all gold gold gold. It was cringe-worthy. Like, Shoma outscored Nate at the GPF but lost on a technicality. But I guess people don't really remember those details... And when I was actually at the games, for the Men's SPs I snagged a super special ticket and ended up seated with the press right behind the judges with Katerina Witt a couple seats over. I had the US flag of course, but these American press guys were confused by my team Japan flag, my pooh ears and bear, my banner. I was asked "Who is Hanyu?" For a moment I was like are they serious? But they were indeed serious because all they knew was that we had a good american. They clearly did next to NO research. I thought it was a waste of seats because plenty of people with a worse view who actually knew the competitors would love to be where they are. Thankfully I was seated next to a Russian young lady from the press and she was a real skating fan so we could actually talk about things. And she was kindly translating the cheers from the Russians for the athletes for me. But the blissful ignorance until reality came crashing down was very real.

Was that the Team SP or the individual SP? I can understand buying into the hype until that day, but everyone who didn't take Shoma seriously after the Team SP must have been sleeping during the event. Even if you had absolutely no idea about figure skating whatsoever, the points alone should have given you a 'little' hint.

Katarina Witt is bff with Brian Orser, and that's why she knows who Hanyu and Fernandez are. But basically she was there for German TV and they focused on Paul Fentz, national bias of course. She'd been in the studio later and there was almost no talk about Hanyu, Uno or Fernandez either, just like 10 minutes about how much Paul Fentz is inferior. At least it felt like it.
