2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

This is why I said that they fail to predict the future by wanting to limit backloading - It won't be a problem for long.

And even without change of rules, backloading would quickly stop being a thing: look at Eteri's juniors + Alina+ Evgenia. In seniors, they would be roughly around same level, in tech, in artistry and in consistency. To actually win they would need that and a quad or 3A on top, or it would be a matter of sheer luck, judge's mood and tiny mistakes.

Russian ladies too OP, please nerf.:drama: Trusova made history and Alena was just beautiful and all the talent left home! I can't wait too see them all next year on the JGP, but even then, it seems like there isn't enough spots? Please share the coaching goods with the rest of the world and I'm only half kidding.:(

Oh, Alena was so beautiful I can't

I really wonder why foreign skaters dont flock to Eteri at this point.

Well, firstly, they would have to be good enough to get into Eteri's group - lots of Russians want to get in already. Secondly, I don't think Eteri feels comfortable/is encouraged to coach foreign skaters. In a past interview, she talked about how she had to stop coaching Elizabet after she switched to represent Kazakhstan. The only foreign skater I recall Eteri coaching is Moris, which maybe was granted an exception because he's from Georgia and Eteri is Georgian.

Elizabet was because of sochi and all.
But right now, the olympics are not anywhere near, and im pretty sure russian government wouldnt mind Eteri getting some extra funding from coaching foreign ladies.

As for getting in - i´m pretty sure skaters like RIka Kihira could benefit a lot from training with Eteri.

Afaik, Eteri doesn't want them. She said once in interview, Chinese feds had proposed her big amount of money for training some promising girl, but she refused, because of her patriotic standpoint.
She probably felt, being a professional, that having given her best to the girl, she might have raised a champion depriving Russia of some future medals. :)

He seems to forget that the lack of longevity is not really planned. Its easy to be Kostner when you are the only figure skater in your country for 10 years. It is not anybody's fault though if new talent show up. For example, it would be terrible wrong for Russia to hold back Alina and the current juniors just to allow Medvedeva to have some more time to develop.

"The Russians are clearly willing to let some athletes fall off their pitiless conveyor belt."
The russians are not willing, but if you have just 3 spots for worlds / olympics and so on, there are just so many places. What are the choices to not let anybody fall?

I mentioned this in Sasha's Fan fest but has Sergey Dudakov been ever happier than we saw him after her FS ? He must be really proud for what they achieved
It's no wonder. Her quads is his accomplishment too. He is jumps coach after all.
