I remember seeing this interview. He also mentioned that he didn't want to disappoint audience, because they deserved a good performance. He said he was also wondering if something wrong with the ice, so he did a tripple to check the ice and it was fine. The he just trusted his training.

What he is saying is that if they planned 5 quads, they would stick to 5 quads regardless of what other competitors did in that competition. Some skaters play the game of adding or taking out jumps based on what previous skaters have done to minimize the level of risk while ensuring a win and looks like Raf is against that. This is something different than changing jump layout based on how Nathan *himself* feels on the day.
