Deniss Vasiljevs

Wonderful job by Deniss in both programs, and he was hugely popular again today at the gala. He has a natural charm and ease that is so appealing. I have to admit though that I had a hard time not watching Stephane while Deniss was skating. S. was standing directly across from me and was hilarious the way he was skating right along with him...So now that our European leading man (Javi) is retiring (or semi-retiring?) is it too presumptuous to think that Deniss may be the one to "carry the torch" for European men? He really does have star quality.

Well, I love Deniss to death, but we can start dreaming about that after he gets at least one quad, lol. He's brilliant, but I think he still has a lot of room left to grow, & overcoming the small fed stigma is always going to be a challenge. And of course, I'd like Dima to be a co-carrier of the torch. ;)

This is from page 2 of the 2017-2018 ISU Grand Prix Announcement (I don't think the 2018-2019 document is out yet but this rule shouldn't change so replace 2017 with 2018 in the below quote):

"2.1 Seeded Skaters/Couples
a) Skaters/Couples who have placed 1 – 6 in each of the 4 disciplines (Men, Ladies, Pair Skating, Ice Dance)
at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2017 will be considered to be Seeded Skaters/Couples
and will be assigned, by draw, to skate in two events.
b) If any vacancies (less than 6 Seeded Skaters/Couples per discipline) remain, the next ranked
Skater/Couple from the results of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2017 will be moved up to
fill their position as a Seeded Skater/Couple."

As I recall, the skaters that are seeded 1-3 do not meet each other and the same goes for those seeded 4-6 during the grand prix events. Yuzuru is not seeded.

I'm pretty sure that's correct. By seeding the top 6 this way, every event at every GP should have a world medalist and another top entry.

I wonder if the seedings means that Deniss won't go to NHK and Rostelecom like he did recently twice (a draw is mention in the document... so who knows which event he will be designed to). And if Bychenko retires, Dima is going to be seeded so our two rising stars won't meet at a competition till the Europeans (or GPF ). What is sad as I'm used to their rivalry :).

I realised that Deniss' PB is now higher than his coach PB :clapper:

Is here anyone from France? On one french forum I have read information that for TdF there were Yuzuru in the pre list, Aliev and also Deniss (!)
http://www.passion-patinage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=933&start=1100
There is information on golden skate forums that Dedier has announced Yuzuru on TdF 2018, does it mean that Deniss also would be there according to the prelist?
What do you think?

If it's true, I will book a flight immediately :-)
But... I read the ISU document according to GP seeds and understand that places 1-3 and 4-6 are divided among different events. It means that no. 1 cannot meet no. 2 or 3 at the same event, the same sticks to places 4-6, so Deniss can't meet Dima (if he's seeded; we still don't know for sure if Bychenko retires). Yuzuru isn't seeded this year so he can be invited to any events.
On the other hand... if Alexei stays one more year, Yuzuru, Deniss and Dima could go to Grenoble together. I consider sending a letter of request to Alexei

I want Deniss and/or Dima at Skate America. :( The French GP is always the worst in terms of organization. But of course there are some benefits to skating there - minimal travel involved and lots of happy European fans.

HD version of his EX, if anyone other than me is interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3wrSYYW_4

I can't decide which is the best version of this EX - the performance at XOI or the one here. I noticed he even timed the stepout on the 3S (the only mistake he did all competition, wow!) to the music by adding in the spread eagle :luv17:

Very cool series of tweets, with pictures of Deniss' performances throughout this season's competitions :)

And I just now realised Deniss started and finished this season in Italy (in Lombardia region, as well)

I realised it this morning and wanted to compare both performances: the first and the last of the season, but WC videos are sadly inavaible (why Fuji is concerned of them I can't guess). I'll do it later...
And - tell me if I'm wrong - the only cameraman who showed Deniss hips swinging was that at Lombardia Trophy ;) The guy knew where to place his camera

Wow Lombardia seems like so many years ago...it’s been a long season! I like the XOI performance of He Lives in You best, definitely more than any of the live music versions, though I do have a soft spot for the NHK version where you could see him singing along so clearly. This gala was wonderful, but I thought he looked just a little tired and slightly less overflowing with energy (and not to blame him! It’s been a particularly packed few weeks!). It’s such an amazing EX though - watching this gala I could really see the difference that Stéphane’s choreography makes. The program is far far more complex and interesting than most - so many skaters just pose, or recycle bits of other programs, and count on their tricks for interest. None of that for Deniss - he used the EX as a chance to be MORE complex and interesting than a competition program.

Jackie Wong has some working links! Check rockerskating. And also Figure Skating Cat channel on youtube was working earlier I think. If they're both gone I will hunt down a streamable link or upload it there myself :)

By the way, Lambiel will participate in Fantasy on Ice 2018, does anyone know, will Deniss also participate?~

He hasn't been announced yet, but I hope so. Lots of Japanese fans are hoping for him to come on Twitter. But I don't know if it would interfere with his schoolwork.

I am itching to translate something. At last I found.:)

In ''Sporta Studija" they showed also Deniss’ work schedule for the whole summer. It's tough.:scratch2:

This week- to have a rest and intensive studying
April- jumping technique camp
May- a camp in Latvia, creating a new program, two school leaving exams
June - technical, dance and physical fitness camp in Switzerland, possibly some shows:pray:
July - physical therapy and physiotherapy in Toronto
July / August-intensive camp in Switzerland
August-season training session

Further in the program Diāna also took part but she didn't speak about Deniss. She made her point of view about Stephane. She is hoping to work with him as long as the financial question is solved. For her he is something special - a king, a coach, a friend, a father. She said she feels there as in a big family.
As Stephane has expressed his willingness to work with her, probably Champery team will be full again.

Thanks a lot for this information! Really hope that his marks in exam will be excellent and he will successfully train to the next championships

Thank you very much!

And very interesting information about Diana! Thanks)

Just thought of something... is Deniss the youngest or the oldest in his class? When I was at school (I was born in August too :D) the school year went from September - July, I was the youngest and turned 18 after my final school-leaving exams. But Deniss is already 18 in his 12th year. Does the school year start at a different time, are age groups divided differently in Latvia...? Is it special arrangement for him because he is not at school often? How does it work?
