Deniss Vasiljevs

I am itching to translate something. At last I found.:)

In ''Sporta Studija" they showed also Deniss’ work schedule for the whole summer. It's tough.:scratch2:

This week- to have a rest and intensive studying
April- jumping technique camp
May- a camp in Latvia, creating a new program, two school leaving exams
June - technical, dance and physical fitness camp in Switzerland, possibly some shows:pray:
July - physical therapy and physiotherapy in Toronto
July / August-intensive camp in Switzerland
August-season training session

Further in the program Diāna also took part but she didn't speak about Deniss. She made her point of view about Stephane. She is hoping to work with him as long as the financial question is solved. For her he is something special - a king, a coach, a friend, a father. She said she feels there as in a big family.
As Stephane has expressed his willingness to work with her, probably Champery team will be full again.

Is it this the interview you were translating? (Thank you!) https://youtu.be/k6_6UCQmY70

I was wondering what she was saying about Stéphane - first she sounded very uncomfortable, and then got into telling story - maybe about when she told her family she was moving to work with Lambiel? I was curious

Just thought of something... is Deniss the youngest or the oldest in his class? When I was at school (I was born in August too :D) the school year went from September - July, I was the youngest and turned 18 after my final school-leaving exams. But Deniss is already 18 in his 12th year. Does the school year start at a different time, are age groups divided differently in Latvia...? Is it special arrangement for him because he is not at school often? How does it work?

Don't know about Latvia, but here in my part of Canada, students in a grade are born in the same year so the oldest kids are born in January and the youngest are born in December. So if that applies in Latvia, he should be somewhere around the middle.

Anyway, didn't realize Deniss was only 18 (he is quite mature for his age) so when people were posting that he was doing exams, I thought he was taking a university program .

Yes, this is the same interview and Deniss is currently in Champery and so he will do distance learning.

Diāna told she had to decide what to do after healing the heavy injury- to stop or to continue training seriously. Stephane is her most beloved skater, she even has a cat named Stephane. Diana sent a letter and video to Stephane's Facebook and Chris responded the next day to invite her to Champery. For her parents this was an absolute surprise! She went there with her father and Stephane was surprised at her jumps. So the story started.

For some fun! When she had to get her original skating costume sewn, she was in Champery. So it was Stephane who had to take all the detailed measures under the guidance of the dressmaker in Latvia on the Skype. She could try it on only when it was ready. I can imagine what a funny picture it was!

Thank you so much!
Well, Stephane told once that "maybe Diana is a fan. She had a cat named Stephane. But I'm not sure". So... She is a fan)) And the cat named after him)))) That's funny)

Ahhhh I love digging for information on the internet, even if they may not be that useful for me :v. Anyway, I found two sources:
1/ http://www.izm.gov.lv/en/education/education-system-in-latvia (this one seems quite legit, but a bit difficult to understand for me)
2/ http://www.aic.lv/ENIC/ds/Latvian_syst.htm (easier to understand, but not sure about the reliability)
School year starts from beginning of September to the end of May. Children can enter 1st grade at the age of 7 (and 6, according to second link). So if Deniss entered first grade at 7, it is logical that he is 18 when he is in 12th grade. Both links also have information about grading system and subjects being offered, etc. If someone from Latvia can comment about this, it is much appreciated (no pressure though, really :D)
P.S http://www.viaa.gov.lv/files/news/1808/educ_in_latvia.pdf This link has a graph about schooling progression on 3rd page, which is quite useful :v

:thank:
No, he would have to be 6, else he skipped a year somewhere  I understand now! I started at 5.
Wow, so when he did that Carmen program aged 7, he had only been 1 year in school...
Link for anyone interested (since we have new posters, a belated welcome to all!)

Well, username0507, all my respect to you for digging so deep.

But basically you are right. Kids start school at 7 (but the borderline is not so strict, somebody may start earlier), stay at school for 9 or 12 years. So Deniss will leave at 18 but he will be 19 when starts studying. Nothing has been said about it but, to my mind, he will do it. As I’m not interested in these issues any more, I don’t know all the details. But Latvian educational system has ben undergoing very serious changes for some years and who knows when it stops.

Found something else on Deniss. I’ll try to post tomorrow.

Thanks for all the information!

I wonder if Deniss is going to go to university this fall. Has anyone seen mention of that? I suppose he could go in Latvia long distance, but I wonder if he might consider going in Switzerland - I believe there are courses taught in English, and it might be nice for him to have classmates again, even if went part time - Lausanne and Geneva aren’t so far away from Champéry, and I think Chris T teaches at one of the universities in Lausanne.

I saw Deniss' LP live at Worlds and he really is an incredible performer :)

Is here anyone from France? On one french forum I have read information that for TdF there were Yuzuru in the pre list, Aliev and also Deniss (!)
http://www.passion-patinage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=933&start=1100
There is information on golden skate forums that Dedier has announced Yuzuru on TdF 2018, does it mean that Deniss also would be there according to the prelist?
What do you think?

I'm french, from what I understand, this list is just wishful thinking, nothing official ;)

That's something! I laughed so much that I had tears in my eyes. But I must say that this is the music choice that makes this video so hilarious. Otherwise it's just a normal kid who keeps falling and getting up :)
Anyway, this video is epic. I suggest you to start a thread in the Edge and name it "embarrassing childhood videos" to provoke fans of other skaters to share their treasures :)

Oh, why it's so cute? Thanks for this link, I haven't seen it before. Deniss from early years has great perseverance. He falls, gets up and continues to try to do everything well. It's so nice to look at him!

Nothing has been said about his future studies but when I read the last passage, I realized that it’s impossible that he would do nothing for a whole academic year. It’s amazing but this guy will never stop learning. That’s the reason why his philosophy is so fascinating - it’s based on knowledge. One way or the other, we’ll see it in autumn.

I found this in Latvian mass media. Not sure that it hasn’t been published somewhere in English but still…

Figure skater Vasiljevs feels honoured for standing ovations in the World Championship

"I’m almost 100% satisfied with the performance of both programs. After both of them the audience got up, I enjoyed it and felt honored. I am pleased with the work done and the pleasure I could give to the spectators. I see this championship as the first competition of a new Olympic cycle. As the start of the road to Beijing Olympics, not the end of Phoenchang Olympics, which is behind us.
Lambiel helps me a lot. He finds the way how to make me show a convincing performance. He and his trainer, Peter Grutter, are working almost the same way, helping me to keep in touch with the audience and to enjoy the skating.

In the Olympics I got to know figure skating as a culture and art, not just sports. I studied sports history and history of Ancient Greece, so now I understand more about the athletes, what they represent and what they are fighting for. Also, skating alongside Juzuru Hanya, Jin Boyan, Shoma Uno and Havi Fernandes was a great honour.

I think these are from the ISU quick quotes here http://cloud.isu.org/index.php/s/EWtBSOR6CIRUDya (men sp3 and men fs2).
They also have some photos on the ISU website: FS 1, FS 2, EX 1 and 2.

He has such a hunger for life. Very curious and very vivid imagination. I always recall him saying "Actually a talented person is not a person who can do something well, it's a person who can educate himself to do everything well." (from here) That kind of outlook takes a lot of discipline, hard work and determination to maintain, but also a lot of self-belief, and maybe this is why he seems to have so many talents; to him, nothing is inherently difficult or impossible, there is nothing that is one is incapable of doing. The thing in question just needs to be fully understood, and then it can be done.

Very well said, Lavenderblossom!:agree:
