Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I wonder if you guys have asked any question to Yuzuru on twitter using this hashtag #CiONTU質問募集, I've read through some of those tweets and it was very fun! Many fans tweeted in English so maybe you can try it if you are interested. I've asked three questions and perhaps I will do more lol. My questions were: 1) You said you could hear the cheers from the crowd in FS of the Worlds last year, but were you also able to hear it in SP and FS in the Olympics? If so, when did that happen in the programs? 2) There was the information of virus and influenza at the site, did you know it? If you did, did you take any measure to prevent it? 3) To be frank, did you get an offer for being the flag bearer in the closing ceremony? (you don't have to answer if you can not) Of course, he can not answer all the questions, but I'm very looking forward to what kind of questions will be selected!

I just need to get this out of my head.
Being just a new fan this 2018, I want to understand why Yuzu wins more GF's than WC? Is it because of the opponents present there? I assume the scoring rules are same right?
Is it due to the location leading to jet lags?
As for the CoC maybe he didn't go there often?

Don't get me wrong Javi is wonderful. And Yuzu placed second 2015 and 2016 which is not bad. (I can't say if he feels the same though lol. He seems to be the type of either gold or bust.)
But I am curious why was WC a big challenge for him? But it this bring out H&L to its finest so is that the skating fates way of challenging him? lmao.

Not to made excuses but back in 2015, Yuzuru just had surgery on December, the fact that he was second is amazing and back in 2016 he was injured (ankle).

And some would say that maybe he needs to pace himself, so he can peak in Word instead that at GPF.

Yuzu had some trouble peaking at the right time, his best showings in the 13-14' 14-15' and 15-16' seasons were at the GPF. It's a bit hard to set a time to be at your best when you come from a country with a packed field (like Japan): You want to be at your best at Worlds/WOG, but you also need to be on great shape for Nationals (and due to time, it would include the GPF as well). And when Worlds came by in 2015 and 2016 he also had health-related issues, for 2015 Worlds he had limited training time+recent surgery+ankle sprain, while for Worlds 2016 he had the awful Lisfranc ligament injury (that could have ended his career, as it happens to many athletes who injure this particular ligament). To that, add the pressure of leading after the SP and having to live up to the expectations he generated after his great showings at the GPF.
After Worlds 2016 it seems like he understood he couldn't be at his very best at every single competition (the only ones capable of doing that are Eteri's girls ), he had a solid but not show-stopping GPF 2016, so he was setting himself to peak at a better time, combined with the fact that he was (an I quote Brian) in "the best shape he's ever been", no injuries, and no pressure leading after the SP (even though he was pissed off with that SP).
I think the injuries were probably the most important factor, since Brian said Yuzu is capable of peaking in a matter of weeks :)

I believe 2016 WC was the left foot lisfranc injury. The one that had him 2 to 3 months off ice. Then another few more months of slow rehab.

This is so true...13-14' season was nightmare for the Japanese men especially, to be representatives for the Words and Sochi Olympics. I remember Sano and Honda were saying winning in Japanese nationals might have been more difficult than winning in Sochi. It was a great relieve to me that Yuzuru had already won GPF before the nationals, it eased my tense a lot :drama:

Certanly one has to wonder what would have happened in this past 4 years if Yuzuru´s health have been better... on the other hand if it weren´t because of the multiple setbacks he wouldn´t have been able overcome his injury for the Olympics...

Yuzu with his gold medal and a group of girls at the TCC :luv17:

Silly comment, but I wonder how he gets the OGM through airport security? 😄 I’m sure he didn’t pack it in a checked bag. Likely had it in a carry on and just took it out when going through the medal detectors etc.,

Anyway, lots of great pics coming out of Toronto. The young ladies at TCC must be thrilled to see him after his success at the Olympics. I’m sure he’s an inspiration to them all.
