Econ major, especially at a school like Yale, is a lot different than a business major though

i love both Vince and Nate, because they are driven, hard-working, intellegent and humble Chinese American figure skaters that I personally can relate to.
about Vincent, his quad jumps maybe UR in Worlds, but he is injured at the time. I kr Vincent can do clean quad jumps (all 4 types of them he mastered so far) in practice. It is not a chronic tech flaw for Vincent. mostly the UR are result of stamina issue, injury or nerves. Also, Vincent is consistently doing complete run-thrus on a daily basis which really impresses me. Quad jump wise, I prefer Nathan's quad lutz (beautiful use of true deep outside edge) than Vincent's. their flip is very similar, 4S is Vincent's first quad his most confident one, while Nathan's 4S is not as consistent as Nathan's other quads, Vincent just learned 4T and 4T is Nate's fav quad, Vincent 3A jump-off edge (I personally prefer), Nate 3A jump-off skid.
What really impressive about Nathan is his stamina, he can achieve 6 quads FS and nobody else can do it. Also his jumps technique not only textbook but looked quite beautiful to me, it is a feeling can I cannot explain exactly why. sometimes, Nathan's jump reminds me of Yuna's jump a bit. Also, Nathan is the only one who has landed 5 different kinds of quads in competition.
but I would not under estimate Vincent at all, instead What Vincent achieved within one year is as amazing as what Nate's improvement and trajectory. Also, Vincent's 6quad FS at worlds does not come out of no where, he had the ambition even at the beginining of this season. And Vincent's words that he can do clean 5 quads FS in practice is not fake, Vincent's fans have many videos of him doing clean 5 quads FS in practice.
Also, Nathan is 1.5 years old than Vincent. on more senior season in Nathan's belt.
Speaking of age, Yuzuru is born at Dec 1994, he was 19 years old at Sochi not 18.
Vincent's IN interview and his communication with fans all indicated that he is also trying to improve his components side of skating and aiming at becoming a whole package skater.
Nathan is now already a world champion, reputation is on Nathan's side comparing to Vincent. Nathan has the easy way at the moment.
artistic talent wise, I think Nathan is more naturally gifted in dance/musicality than Vincent. But Vincent is extremely focused on figure skating, which is his only goal/dream in life yet Nathan wish to juggle college and skating.
I don't know Nathan's game plan, he is so private and mysterious, but I secretly hope Nathan's figure skating can develop into the direction I hoped for him. but IDK.
As for Vincent, everything already planned out, he will train at colorado springs and aiming at 2022 OG
EDIT: a bunch of rambling, and I don't know what I just said.
EDIT: and yes, Love Nathan's little improvise in all his EXs. but hoped he can stick to original choreo in future competitions. Nathan can be a choreographer all he wants after his retirement. Now he still needs to absorb from others.
I thought Vincent also plans to go to college and he is accepted by Stanford. Will he also do long-distance training?
In all the Nathan college drama - totally forgot Vincent is going to college too.
Not surprised Vincent got into Stanford - yay Vincent!! But how would that work with training in Colorado ?
Is Karen going to college as well?
Vincent get into Stanford? I don't kr about that. I think Vincent will study business or something similar. These kinda major is easier to do online long-distance learning than labs.
I heard that he was accepted by Stanford in the early round. Somehow I sense he wants to focus on CSbut I could be wrong.
"clean" quads do not mean just "land" on them; they have to be fully rotated, no mistake of using blades etc.
I understand all athletes want to distinguish themselves. Nathan cannot stand out by doing 4 quads in FS as Boyang had done it before him. Similarly, Vincent cannot distinguish himself by following Nathan as " he can do 5 and I will do 5; he can do 6 and I will do 6". This is getting him nowhere. He will always be in Nathan's shadow.
Especially because Vincent and Nathan share the same ethical background, I am annoyed to see all Vincent's quads analyzed by fans who are like us but have sharp eyes and vast knowledge of jumping techniques and questioned why his cheated quads did not receive deductions but positive GOEs. Soon the discussion would refer back to his USA nationality and in no time Nathan would be the target for nationality beneficiary.
I respect Vincent as a great athlete with great potentials. But If I were him, I would focus on developing some unique edges that only I could do and nobody else could, such as 4lz + 3 Loop with Rippon, 4S + 3T with Rippon etc. or even a quad with Rippon. Recognizing one's weakness and talent is some wisdom I have not seen in Vincent or his coaching team yet.
I will stop right here as how Vincent skates is none of my business really.
no Vincent said he will not do Computer Science (like his parents), his interests is in literature and he also likes nature, so he is inclined to do Business or Environmental Engineering. or something similar, unless he is talked into Computer Science, I don't think his interests in CS.

I don't know if he can handle even one major if he continues to compete. But he is Nathan.
I read on some other thread that it is the reporter who misunderstood what Nathan said, it should be something like he is considering Economics while trying to fulfil the requirement for medical school, which makes much more sense to me.

Yeah, I wasn't pleased to see Nathan caught up in the UR drama of the World's SP with some skating fans saying both Nathan and Vincent constantly UR their jumps and the US fed is so powerful (lol) that they get away with it. No, Nathan does not and leave him out of it.
And I agree with your thoughts on Vincent, but I'm not a fan of his at all so I don't really care what he does to be honest. So I'll leave it at that.
Fans wars, trolls and figure skating campaign are unavoidable in this sports called figure skating.
Nathan does not UR. that is a fact regardless, let them be.

Hi and welcome. Did you see mini-Patrick in Nathan, as some fans seem to?
Was there a particular program, a particular moment / competition that won you over?
Is Nathan similar to the other skaters you've liked in the past, or does he buck the trend in some way?
Not that you asked, lol, but I've always been a fan of ladies skating. Even the pairs and dance couples I liked have usually grabbed my attention because the lady half (Cheng Peng, for example) is special to me in some way. Nathan's movements to me are more beautiful than even my favorite ladies', so he's the first male skater since Daisuke Takahashi who's really caught my eye.![]()
Oh I do. I just block and ignore. I don't even know how many people I've had to block recently. It's getting rough out there.
re: econ major. That was what I was doing in school (well, not at Yale obviously), but switched to something else. Not pre-med either, but... okay the point being I think it's possible to meet the requirements for other programs doing it.
i think men's skating is so fun to watch because of the jumps. I get artistry and PCS but those few people that can do quads... they're literally maybe 50 people in the world who can do what they do.. it's super attractive. not to mention that everyone is easy on the eyes lol
econ is still a fairly "fluffy" major. i'd categorize it alongside psych and poli sci. certainly less challenging than stem, imo.
Depending on the school. Econ from the top schools can be demanding. But I agree it's easier to manage than hard core STEM in general.

i'm not saying it's a walk in the park for sure, but one of my friends has a PhD in Econ told me that those who were actually intent on postgrad (this includes Nathan, I presume) would do Math instead of Econ. Although if Nathan wants to be a doctor, that's irrelevant. can you imagine if nathan become an asian dr. mike equivalent?![]()
I wonder which specialty Dr. Chen will focus on. Sports injury related?
