Nathan Chen

That's more what I meant, not that he was shading Nathan's program or something but that Nathan did more than they ever expected. I don't imagine they ever thought someone would do that many quads.

deleted part since ot

Nathan will be ok with any rule changes - Shoma also had a similar response - he would take out his easiest triple
Maybe one less jumping pass won’t be so bad
It’s taken Nathan like 6 yrs to get a seemingly stable 3A (well over 1.5 competitions at least), not so sure if 4A would even be a possibility
It's not the one less jumping pass that's bad. What's bad is the cutting program by a whole 30 seconds just because one jump pass is taken out. If one jump pass takes about 5 seconds, they are essentially taking away 25 seconds of program which skaters could've used to be creative. Now it's just going be even more packed with just jumps.

are we allowed to post about Raf in here - or does he need his own FF lol. I thought this was an interesting read:

https://www.phillipmillschoreographer.com/single-post/2018/04/09/Beautiful-Alliances

'Last year, Rafael and Vera Arutunian sent me several skaters to choreograph their new programs. We were testing the waters to see how renewing our relationship might work. Well, it worked quite well. We have already started to expand things for the coming season as Rafael recently sent me two of his top juniors. Eric Sjoberg and Audrey Shin have recently received new programs from me.

It feels like our alliance is growing and moving forward in a positive direction. It would be wonderful, educational, and inspirational if one day there could be a serious figure skating academy right here in Southern California; one dedicated to excellence and directed by Rafael. Every ship needs a captain and every orchestra needs a conductor. America would be wise to enable that possibility for Rafael to be the director of his own Academy where he picks the faculty and curriculum in order to produce more skaters like his protégé, Nathan Chen.'

Kinda interesting. Though in another article on that website he didn't give so much credit to Raf for Nathan lol. I'm not sure he's so easy to reproduce. :scratch2: Though I do like the idea of a dedicated FS academy. It would be so much easier.

Nathan loves him some Pchiddy https://twitter.com/555purity/status/983727273156096005

Yes how does taking out 5 sec plus shortening 30 seconds from the FS is better for the artistic side of the sport? With one jump gone and keeping the same minutes, we can see more creative and personal touches in the components and enhance the artistry. Honestly what can Nathan say publicly, it reminds me of his take on whether Worlds should be held on an OG year at the Worlds presscon, I agree that it shouldn’t matter athletes can choose if they’re good to go.

As for what Hanyu can and cannot do, there’s another place to discuss.

Oops, it’s Wednesday my mind is a day early.

Thanks sheetz re: JP FC info just don’t feel/see much fans there are involved in the FC.

I think the shorter program length is mostly just to make the whole event shorter
And with 24 skaters in the free skate, that's cutting the entire competition by a total of 12 minutes. While this could cause quite an impact on each individual program and affect the perception of the program and enjoyment of the audience, it hardly makes a dent on total length of the whole event (if that was their concern to begin with). It makes absolutely no sense. Ugh I hate it. Unfortunately I think this (and the GOE scale change) are the two things that are very likely to pass for next season.

Cuts only 12 minutes of total competition time, but those 12 minutes will be used for more advertisement, which is what broadcast networks want. Never mind artistic development of a program; money is more important.

It can be a challenge to get a degree while still in competition, nevermind earning admission to an Ivy League school. Chen credits the flexibility of online programs and a high SAT score for his success ...

Studying while competing at the international level -- including training for Team USA at the 2018 Winter Games -- was difficult, said Chen, who is 18.

"But, fortunately, with online programs being much more relevant, I've been able to at least graduate high school," he said. "I did well on my SAT, which definitely helped a lot, but that was obviously just studying on a book."

well at least he was able to graduate high school lol

it's extremely impressive that he managed to meet the academic qualifications for ivies and be a world champion. extremely impressive.
and "did well" on his sat, lol. *insert stereotype here* 800 for an asian kid is still really good. :rofl2:

I just looked up when we started to post about this season. That started on page 57! That means since July 1st, this fan page has added 346 pages! Nathan's dedicated fan base sure has grown!

Do you have a spreadsheet? Hehe and probably 70 pages was on his college.

And to think there were times last year when I was practically keeping this thread alive by myself.

ETA: Looks like Nathan got another new pair of shoes.

All the way back here? Thanks United for flying him. That pair looks to be big air 270, I think but it’s another Nike big drop shoes, the willow color looks quite nice :)

Thank you for keeping the thread alive last year, waiting for all of us to discover Nathan.
