Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Welcome, welcome, welcome :)

Personally I prefer to combine the 2018-19 thread with the present one because I don't like to see other skaters now having threads with more pages that Yuzu [emoji317] Of course, they have those number of pages for their entire career and Yuzu had a very short season because of injury and I'm childishly jealous [emoji3] but I can't bear it :confused2:
Haha yes I agree. Although its a bit hard to organize. With the growing Hanyu fans the thread will explode cuz hes 2 time olympic champ and that itself brings a swarm of fans after olympic season. Remember post sochi season? The fandom exploded.

And im frm Planet Hanyu. Surprised that this thread is still active.

Rnt most yuzu fans relocated to Planet Hanyu?

What are the GS fans doing here haha? Jst suprized thats all.

I think the size of this thread is still manageable to be joined with season 18-19.

Best wishes to Sano-san, he worked hard at his age to be able to skate is amazing...

I personally don't mind having a new thread so backtracking can be easier.
And even if Yuzu has seems to have shorter threads at least we have multiple ones. :agree:

But if more prefer to keep this one for 2018-2019, its fine too.

Excited for the weekend. My parade shirt will be shipped tomorrow but since I am not living in Japan it might not arrive on Parade day.

Can we rename the thread to include 19 season then? Backtracking for new fans of yuzu will b hard.

Just spoke with Brian Orser for an upcoming @icenetwork story. Asked him about Yuzuru Hanyu’s future. Orser said, “I’m having the sense he is going to continue” to the next Olympics. Might he take a year off from competing? “He won’t take a year off. Absolutely not."

To be honest, I am having the same sense as Brian's just because Plu-san told Yuzuru "Land 4A and win in the next Olympics." :slink::biggrin:

But isn't the quote just "I'm having the sense he's going to continue"? It seems like Hersh thought it implied that he would do 2022, but it might not be. I think Orser might have just meant continue for a couple more seasons. I have the sense it might be just till 2020. 2019 to me was a given due to the WCs in Japan.

GS is famous forum and it may be sad if it doesn't have the fan thread for the double Olympic Champion, don't you think? At least, I feel that way since I have been in this thread since 2012 (including lurking period).

Not to mention, several Yuzu fans are also fans of other skaters, myself included. A big reason I frequent GS is to see what's going on with all of them. And honestly this Yuzu FF has become like a cliff notes for me when it comes to news and links when I might not have time to sift through all of the pages on PH.

I am trying not to get my hopes up, and to be prepared to when he decides to stop it won’t be to too chattered... At this point I want a happy healthy Yuzuru

Yes, I was also thinking that he would continue competing two (or three) more seasons at least, in order to land 4A in the competition (and honestly I don't think it will happen in the next season, but who knows ). But seeing Yuzuru's face and reaction in CiONTU, I don't know what to expect anymore. We'll find out Brian's thoughts in the coming article probably and I hope Yuzuru is going to take it season by season :)

I think Yuzu will go for either 2 or 4 more seasons. Doesn't seem worth it to only hang around 1 more season and if he is around for 3 seasons, he might as well try for a full quad and head on in to Beijing. At first I was kind of scoffing at the idea of him going to 3 olympics...but he really wouldn't be the first. Aside from Plushy, Javi, Chan, Daisuke, and Denis Ten have done it. Though none of them aside from Plushy were gold medal threats for all 3.

I also prefer GS because I'm a fan of Figure Skating first. I found Yuzu because of FS not FS because of Yuzu. I love him so much but at the same time I like to know what other skaters are up to? What are the new rules? Who are pushing the boundaries of sport, especially in ladies? And ...

We really can't say if Yuzu will go for 2022 Beijing.
As of now all we know is he wants to compete this 2018-2019 season.
As a fan if he can I wanna see him in Beijing and land that Quad axel or maybe plus a Quintiple toe as a bonus ^^

Remember reading somewhere he said the peak of an athlete's body is until 30years old? But I don't know if he will push competively on that one. Because if we are going to be hopeful on that statement he might go for 2026 too.
However there are so many thngs that can happen in between. Honestly I think Yuzuru is a fine dancer too and if he sings decently with his popularity he can be an idol singer in Japan. But of course we all know he is not aiming for that lifestyle.

I just wish that if he goes pro, he can have support to have a training facility in Sendai where he can coach. I remember seeing in youtube but I need to dig the link, Yuzu would prefer training in Japan if possible. But in order to be competitive athletes need to leave home to challenge a lot of things. Whatever his future will bring, I am sure most of us will be happy for our then "noodly wild boy" turned "crazily elegant matured man" Yuzuru Hanyu.

I just hope for him to have less injuries so he CAN continue for as long as he wishes. :(
