Yale banner at Hartford SOI for bonita :)

So nice of Charlie and Karen to point the banner out to him!

May 5 SOI will be in Milwaukee, so he'll be working on his birthday. If there's a cake there'll probably be pictures on (other people's) social media. Maybe now that more people are aware of his Momofuku love he'll get that exact cake! ;)

Glad he’s taking one step at a time and see where liberal art or other subjects may guide him to where he wants to be.

Very glad to hear he's not planning to double major in hard-core science & economics, but more realistic about the possibility of his interests shifting after he learns more about the various fields of studies. *crossing fingers that Yale is a great experience for him*

He looks great, hmm haven’t I heard it before 🤔 like 1m times.

@ skfan the article didn’t go into details about double major, in the article he seems very open minded which is no surprise. Just want him enjoy his college life and hopefully accomplish his skating goals too.

Interesting that he said there’s a lot of ice rinks around the area. I thought one of the main concerns with the Yale area was that there wasn’t much ice rink around other than the one on campus that may not be available as much as he needs it. I know Sarah Hughes said there was one a few miles away but in general I figured they didn’t have much. I guess he found more than we did lol, so that’s atleast one concern out the way.

He seems to be practical about his major as well. Econ with pre-med pre-reqs I think is doable than if he majored in a hard science. I think the pre-med classes are probably his priority and he’ll major in anything he’s interested in that will also be convenient enough for his competitive schedule as long as he gets his pre-reqs done. Yale seems like they’re willing to accommodate him as well.

Idk, I think it’s all really doable. I wouldn’t doubt if he graduates the same year as he gets his Olympic gold ;) 😝

Regarding ice rinks, there are several in the new haven and surrounding areas there and then it's only about a half hour to 45 mins drive to Newington and Simsbury. ;)

I hope for the same, hhh. I think one of the earlier SOI articles said something about pre-med *and* economics, and some skating fans interpreted that as meaning that Nathan intends to go for a double major. Others interpreted it as meaning that he will get a non-science degree and just take enough courses to be able to apply to med school, completing the med school pre-requisites. He's never shied away from challenges, IMO, so I was actually among those concerned that he was aiming to double major *and* skate full seasons including GP's. *faints*

I just hope he keeps his mind open and goes for something that truly suits him, so he can be happy in his non-skating life. He wouldn't be the first pre-med to not apply to med school after finishing college--I can think of Rachael Flatt and Christina Gao right off the top of my head.

Mamamiia, thank you for linking us to David's videos. Can I say again how grateful I am for your Eyes on Nathan channel, your amazing HQ videos and your focus on Nathan during group numbers??

oatmella I presume the credits aren't included to protect the privacy of the students who chose to share Nathan's picture possibly in DM to someone they trust? Just speculating, I have no idea. All I know is I saw it on the twitter page I linked.

What a lovely banner! are there 4 students holding it? How come Nathan didn't see it himself??? Must be really focusing on performing.

Thank you skfan for finding this picture for me.

And that he looks so good in that Yale gear. So happy to see he is surrounded by people about same age as him:cheer:

bonita, the audience was very dimly lit in all the video snippets I saw. So I'm not surprised he didn't spot the Yale banner until the finale and even then he needed Charlie and Karen to help him

I am happy to see him relaxed and in the company of similarly happy guys his own age, too! :) Not as much fun to experience residential college life if you are older than your classmates' TA's, having put off college until you've attended more Olympics ;)

I always have the impression he is doing well/comfortable with kids of his age, or slight little bit older, probably because he is the youngest in the family and youngest with team Raf and he is shy and introvert in nature. He would be significantly older than other students if he waited 4 more years. Even if he just stay there for 1 year if he cannot balance study and competition, that experience would be so precious and memorable.

We need more Nathan sightings. I'm curious to know if he's checked out the pizza place Yuki recommended.

Or maybe Yale opened up Commons and upgraded the students' meals to the prime fare they offer at Parents' Weekend instead of the usual... roasted vegetable medley... (saw this on somebody's twitter account, lol). I wonder if they still serve meatless baked ziti... *shudders*

wow I thought I was a super Nathan fan

But I haven’t even thought of looking into what they serve at Yale’s cafeteria😂

Meatless Baked Ziti???!!! My Italian side finds this most unacceptable 😤

We famously have sensitive palate though, as you all may know lol

Yes the pizza place! Maybe you can help by a few menu recommendations that are good for his training :)
