Nathan Chen

I have a question, do you think Nathan is able do the transitions into his 4T like Shoma's?

his quad jumps does not have as much flow as Shoma's to my untrained eyes. but Nathan's take-off in his quads are all textbook, have to say something positive about our boi.

Which of Shoma's transitions do you mean? His quads mostly have uncontrolled landings with the wide swinging leg, which is why he has only ever done 4T in combination.

This was one of Nathan's best 4T

@1111bm "Nah, he's too short for that (at least with Ashley)..."

This is one of the very few cases when I say thank god he is short
Did you guys see Ash's IG caption of that steamy picture? :eeking:

I think she means his BO counter into FO 3turn intro... this one is usually mostly done as a flip entry I'd say, and I'm not sure I like it as a toeloop entry... (but that may also depend on how a given skater executes it)

height is not the issue here:yes:

so what is...? ;)

here Shoma's counter+3turn+4T but his landing is the infamous "crooked Shoma landing" here:biggrin: I really liked Shoma's entry into his 4T here when he first debut it.

thank you for the Nathan 4T video, indeed the most flowing landing edge of all Nathan's 4T and beautiful transition out with ballet arms.

@sheetz

I also love that 4T into camel spin go along with the harp, very nimble and feline-like, along with his delicate black lacey costume. just beautiful.:luv17:

Beautiful 4T and thanks sheetz for sharing!

Wondering if I’m the only one who prefers Le Corsaire to Nemesis - I love both but I really love Le Corsaire😍

@1111bm what is your fav 4T entry transition then?

What I don't like about the BO counter entry is the fact, that in order to do the toe, you need to do an additional step to get on a BO edge after the 3turn... whereas in a flip you just pick right in after the 3turn, which looks nicer I think. Or even better, Yuzu's trademark 3A directly out of the counter.

I'm actually more of a "purist" when it comes to jumps done out of steps... I like some nice footwork before jumps, but I'm not necessarily a fan of doing jumps out of difficult steps, like counters and such, all on one leg, just for the sake of difficulty. Sometimes it comes off as too gimmicky or can look long-winded, and often I'd rather see simpler steps because it looks more dynamic and lively... but it all also depends on how effortless a skater can do difficult steps.

I love both very much. And I don't like people making comments that he has improved his artistry a lot by comparing nemesis with Le corsaire.

i do not recall any skater that does 4T out of a direct difficult turn. I agree with bold part, transitions need to serve the purpose of program and needs to be performed with good quality. not just for the sake of GOE.

i kinda love Le Corsaire too, but I really love Sun Valley Nemesis when it first came out.

There are comments like that? :disapp:
That is one thing I'll never understand, how little Nathan's execution of his Le Corsaire program was appreciated in that season... the StSq is gorgeous, and he's so quick and snappy in it, and yes, that moment after the jump when he moves to the harp, so beautiful. The only "bad" thing I could say about it, is that there weren't exactly a lot of diverse or intricate transitions in it... but you can take something simple and execute it well, so that it's still impressive or nice looking.

Oh I wasn't talking about entries into a toeloop, just a general observation regarding all jumps.

I like this entry for instance, he does a cluster of difficult steps during the jump set-up, but for the 3F itself he then crosses over and jumps from his normal preferred entry (from a 3turn-into-mohawk). Looks nice, has a nice rhythm to it, and I think I even prefer this to a flip done out of a counter-into-3turn, even though it would be considered easier.

OMG, I love the Flip jumping pass in Nathan's MJ.:luv17::love::o:
Nathan's 3F is one of his jump that he has used many different entry transitions.

Le Corsaire - the step sequence, the 4F perfectly timed to the descending harp, the fitted lace shirt😍

I love Nathan’s MJ program too!

haha yes - Nathan’s Flying Flip😍 and also his S**y Lutz😉

the reason why I love Nathan's jumps so much.

these 2 are my absolute fav jumps from Nathan even more than his own fav 4T.

I hope Nathan can ride his 4F like his 3F someday, and his 4lutz is already S**Y as it is.

Me! The first time I was Nathan was Le Corsaire at National. I LOVED the program and the skater. I was like, holy cow, where did this guy come from? The program really highlighted his dance training, his musicality, great posture and attention to details down to hands and fingers. The costume is also perfect. Suits the music, showcases his body line but not over the top.

In order of my preference of Nathan's competitive programs:
Le Corsaire
Nemesis
Prince Igor
......
MLD (Yes I really dislike this program. Minus Nathan, I dislike pretty much everything else.)
