Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

Please compare this to "poor" Medvedeva living with her family in upper middle class family and full support 24/7.



My accusations? Do you mean my facts?
1) Flutz - she gets POSITIVE GOEs for a flutz. This is a fact. Also +GOE for UR jumps with >90 deg prerotation.
2) Reputation scoring: her PCS scores are unwarranted, even considering the general PCS inflation of most Russian skaters.

So no, I don't see anything "baseless" here, nor do I see accusations. These are facts. My point was that she is having a great time, and she is being spoiled because see above #1, and #2. Now, she wants even more. And even Russian people are beginning to see this. I don't have time to post social media posts here but I'm sure people are capable of investigating.

Both PCS are inflated anyway, they actually have so many things to improve yet but the PCS scores say otherwise.

Well if you knew anything aboutZhenya she lives with her mum and grandmother because her dad whose Armenian left them so whilst yes she has support it isn’t an ideal family situation—he texted her pre olympics and that’s it. Additionally we don’t know about Alina’s house at home just her grandmothers which was probably pre existing not that I’m excusing it but she’s not gonna be that poor her dad is an ice hockey coach and her childhood sounds very idyllic

Zhenyas as well has never been feted around at Eteri’s rink till she earns it. Shelpen was the star then Lipnitskaya then Sims and it was only after Zhenya worked really hard as Eteri said before the split she was able to beat the other girls as she wasn’t as naturally gifted. And yes even when she was the star of the rink due to her work she wasn’t overmighty or haughty for example her relationship with Trusova and the other young skaters who will one day be her rivals.

She's not responsible for the PCS\GOEs she gets. She is allowed to want to change coach if she doesn't like working with Eteri anymore. When I left my old job for my new job because I didn't like the old one anymore nobody considered me a spoiled person. What even.

PS. Alina's situation is unfortunate and I wish her all the best, but Evgenia has nothing to do with it? Like, at all?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I totally respect other opinions on this matter, and see how they can be valid. Just stating my opinion here. If it does turn out that Med gets a lot out of the Orser deal in regards to improving her technique and artistry, I will be pleasantly surprised and you can say "I told ya so".

A lot. The point is, that videos like Koola King's that show Med "escaping" to Canada are hilarious. She is not "escaping" anything. She was having a great time in Moscow. But being in shows with the big shots like Hanyu makes her want even more international fame. There's even a verb for "being a (pop) star" in russian, lol. It's not that her conditions were terrible that she wants to move to Orser. And it's not like there aren't other great coaches in Russia. It just gives an impression that she wants more fame and glory through international connections. It's pretty clear also from the way she conducts herself while running the Ice Age show, but probably more so to native speakers. Again, I'd like to believe it's not the case and she's just genuinely wanting to improve herself because she feels stagnant with Eteri. But based on what I have heard coming out of her own mouth it's just a little harder to believe.

Even if her goal is more fame although how can she be more famous what is wrong with this? Why is this a tantrum? If she feels leaving coach and training with Hanyu will help her career more power to her.

Anyway if Medvedeva want to improve in artistic side it is for herself and not the marks. Judges already gave her almost the perfect score without her being perfect.

I'm relieved that Orser understands and tends to fix all of Med's weak points. Especially the health part. I'm sure everyone can see she's clearly underweight and most likely has a build up of old injuries.

All of this actually makes her departure more difficult. As you said previously she is Moscow girl. Probably the longest she left her home is vacation and training camp. But here she is leaving everything she knows and loves to make a shot and train on the other side of the world being well aware of the hate that she is going to face for "betraying mothrland" by choosing foreign coach. Evgenia is the one who risks everything here. Also it isn't like Alina's family is poor - her father is an accomplished hockey player and now a coach whose team few seasons ago was vice-champion of Russia. Eteri controlled her programs, her choreography and basically her development as skater. Probably contacts with other skaters and participation in ice shows helped her realise that maybe it's time to move on.

Moving to Orser isn't easy way. Staying in Moscow would be

Just a side note on russian society.
A family with grandmother, mother and kids is quite a normal thing there. Maybe not so for 2000+ folks, but i suspect that for the 90s generation of russians, its more common to have mom+grandma rather than mother+father. Russians will basically laugh when you call this "not ideal" because its how half of russia grew up.

This should make us respect her more tbh, she's not taking the easy road. She was getting high marks and still wants to improve because she loves this sport.

Have you ever read about Nadia Comeneci? I can only recommend. Compared with the majority of Romanians, she has a good life, every recognition of the state and was adored by the public like no one else. She was deeply unhappy and her real freedom was null. Do not think that just because someone has money /recognition they have also the freedom. Not only living in a dictatorship /semi-dictatorship is not such an easy happy thing ,but also being pushed to suit one mold and have no freedom in decisions, be it from the coach, be it from the federation, it can be very damaging. Read about Bela Karoly for example.

Like every young person, Medvedeva wants her freedom. It might be good for her, it might not go so well. To put distance between all the politicking in Moscow and all the media can work well for her at this stage in career where she has to develop herself into adulthood. But judging only in how big her room was compared to other skater is such a BLIND and BIASED thing to do. You might not know when Alina will be 18 and went to adulthood how she will work with Eteri, perhaps Eteri will learn by then that different ages needs different approach - perhaps she wont and Alina will also feel the need to search something else. Does really depends then how big her room is and how healthy she is? How do you judge that someone has a "great time"? Do you use the tabloids or the instagram pics? Or are you really an intimate friend with Medvedeva?

Not the smartest decision by Evgenia, politically. Unless there is somebody left in Russia to politic on her behalf, she will get buried in standing at National level and I hihgly doubt she will ever make the Worlds National team again.

This is what I've been wondering about: How will her falling out with Eteri affect her standing with The Powers That Be in Russia. TPTB who decide who makes their World Team and who doesn't? How much influence does Eteri have in those decisions?

Based on the online comments on national newspaper people writing about medvedeva, lots of russians think her a traitor and that orser is only "helping" for the money etc etc and seems like her popularity went down so much... it might be hard to skate in russia after this...

This is what I've been wondering about: How will her falling out with Eteri affect her standing with The Powers That Be in Russia. TPTB who decide who makes their World Team and who doesn't? How much influence does Eteri have in those decisions?

Eteri actually does not have much influence. In fact, we have seen this year how rusfed does not want to give 3 spots to 3 Eteri girls.
But then, there is the thing, Orser also does not have much influence, so I wouldn't expect, for example, rusfed to prop her like they propped konstantinova and sotskova, specially if she starts making mistakes.
