Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

Concerning money issue for those interested, head of FFKR refused to answer the question who's going to pay for Evgenia's training in Canada. Which means they will, and this burden lies on tax payers.

good for her for jumping over the sinking ship of Eteri. It's not a good idea to train with so many of your competitors and letting them slide past you like Alina.
I don't know if it is for the better but it's the best decision for her. Training away will let her have the opportunity to brew her own technical soup

Right after the Olympics she said she would like to have a long life as a skater as Carolina. And I do believe that a figure skater should skate to his/her heart, not just doing elements set for him/her. She is 18, time to be a human skater with her own head, not being a robot anymore.

She will be representing those tax payers when she competes. So I don’t see why it should be a big deal.

Can't imagine they'd pay much more than what they would in Russia. She might still have to cover the difference herself. Anyway, a skater of her level and decoration would get government funding and stipends either way, regardless of where she trains, so this is a non-issue.

8 years ago, the coach of the reigning ladies Olympic champion bitterly complained to the media about a surprising breakup with his star student, and did his best to drag her through the mud in interviews (yes, including on television), revealing his personal messages to prove his innocence in the mess, dividing fans and setting the forums on fire.

I find it ironic that this is happening again, with a minor difference -- the Olympic champion isn't the one leaving this time, but Evgenia is still a star student that is unexpectedly leaving.

Well, at least this time, Orser gets to give happy interviews instead of airing his bitter complaints.
So what was the most insulting thing Brian said at that time about Yuna? Please help my failing memory (quotes appreciated) because I don't remember him being especially insulting.

Wow ain't been on this site since Saturday and this! I'm hoping we could see something even more special in the next few seasons :)

That's what I want to know too. The only thing I remember was that it was a shock to him that they left and I thought there were some conflict with Yuna's mother. The only thing he did give away that he shouldn't was Yuna's program music for that season, probably because it was already choreographed by the TCC choreographers.

This will be media gold for Brian.

Not that he needs it. :) Zhenya moving to Brian does not only make me very happy, it reminds me of a high profile soccer star who seems to be pushed to the sidelines for a younger team mate, but then gets the offer to play for another top world class club under another top world class coach. Onwards and upwards and best of luck to all of them.

Besides, I said before that I very much welcome the development of a first class Russian skater being trained in Canada. I'm secretly hoping that Tutberidze boys might also consider the option, as I find they have been neglected over the past season.

I didn't say that he insulted her. But Orser went public first, and he went straight to the media to tell his side of the story. He certainly did drag Yuna through the mud, claiming that he had received a "series of insults," that he "deserved more respect," etc. Source here. Read through all of Hersh's posts to see that Yuna's team strongly disputed that they were the ones who had disrespected him.

It was an ugly back-and-forth, culminating in Orser's revelation of Yuna's music selection for the following season.

Huh?

Yes, BOrser did reveal his email to Yuna, which I found unprofessional at the time, but eh that's no text message. The most 'insulting' thing he implied about her is that she was confused and her mom was making all the decisions for her. That's what you categorise as 'dragging her through the mud'???

And there's another big difference this time: it's one-sided. It's Eteri going unhinged and shading her pupil on TV alone, while Evgenia simply issued a formal thank-you for Eteri and Sambo70. The Kim-Orser mess was very much two-sided (actually kinda three, with Mao dragged in).

Imo, Eteri going to the media first and talking about how Evgenia didn't respond to her texts was fine. Like Brian, she was telling her side of the story, and everyone can do that. Even her saying Evgenia should have told her in person, aka show more respect, was fine too. Evgenia avoiding telling her coach right when she made the decision and not responding was disrespectful (this is going off only of the info we have). So I can see why Eteri is upset, and she can be everyone's entitled to their own feelings.

However, Eteri talking about the comments Evgenia made (again only info we have as Evgenia didn't deny) was awful. Not only was that a private conversation and Evgenia has always shown great sportsmanship, it also had nothing to do with the topic at hand. It doesn't matter if Evgenia said these things, everyone says things when they're upset, and more importantly, she didn't say that to Alina or publicly. That's the issue, and though people may disagree with what Brian said with Yuna, Brian never said anything like this, only commented on the breakup situation. And Eteri dragged two other names into this; Alina and Sasha, who have nothing to do with this, as Alina even stated in her interview: this is not her situation and she won't comment. So yeah, both the 18 and 15 year old showed more maturity than the one in her 40s, but even if you take age aside, Eteri is still the one that is wrong here.

I don't disagree with you that Eteri did something that was immature and unprofessional. It's not an identical situation to what Brian said/did in 2010. That said, I saw some other similarities and pointed them out.

I didn't use the term "insulting", that was someone else. No, Brian's implying that Yuna was confused was not the most "insulting" thing that he said about her, and no, that's not what I mean when I say that he dragged her through the mud. Brian Orser gave many, many interviews and said a lot of things, and collectively, yes, I categorised it as dragging Yuna through the mud.

Now that Orser gave an additional info it became more clear what Evgenia did. Utterly disrespectful and immature way to leave a coach with whom you worked for 11 years :disagree:
Looking at the comments at sports.ru it's a "from hero to zero" situation.

I'm more excited by this news than I imagined I would be. I haven't been a huge fan of Evgenia to date in terms of her programmes but I've always thought that she seems like a lovely young lady. I'm excited at the prospect of seeing her obvious talent develop past some of her technical flaws and breaking free of those mime filled Averbukh programmes. I cannot wait to see what she will become and I'm looking forward to becoming a fan. I wish her every ounce of luck.

If all was said is true, we are talking here about a coaching situation with zero possibilities of arguing about what to do in the future. Because of that, it don't surprise me at all if Evgenia, knowing Eteri from a long time and already have see other partings from the school in the past, has decide to get out without searching a different solution with her.

And there is another thing to understand. If you can do only what your coach want, is even more easy to think that what your coach has choose for you, over your direct rival, has also affected somewhat your result.

Are you referring to the same sports.ru that has been a Evgenia hatefest for months and is well known for its horrible comment section? Or the same sports.ru that titled the news of her transfer with "Medvedeva's new coach is gay"? (yes, really) way to go off that impartial source.
