Definitely. It's broadened my appreciation for what makes great skating music.

Fwiw - I thought the Incredibly Dull movie was lame, and zoned out the music. So hearing Medvedeva perform to it gave me a new appreciation for how the score was one of the best things about the movie.

The final cut ('Flying') of the 16/17 season FS music is remarkable, and one of Averbukh's better works of editing and choreo - timed to her 3s-3t(-3t) - is one of the musical peaks of his work. Breathtaking stuff

The final cut named "flying" is, if I'm correct, a completely unknown piece of music. I've only found it on youtube and it seems to be from an unproduced artist. So cool that they found it!

you don't stand in bread lines all day and worry about spending 10 years at hard labor if you quietly complain about it to your neighbor.

Men, you are something. My childhood was in the 70s. Can't remember standing in bread lines, ever. Bread for 20 kopeks a piece which was $0.3 to ridiculous official exchange rate or $0.03 to the market exchange rate - this I remember. May be you refer to the 40s - the war time? Well, the ordeal to the people was extraordinary then, indeed.

Sure, why bother with facts, let alone details (who needs details?) when one already knows the universal truth :) This kind of reminds me of many modern media and even more, of the current breed of politicians. Btw, do you think Borser's reaction to Kim dropping him was any better than Eteri's? Well who cares, Borser is a nice guy by definition and Eteri's the villain, also by defintion. For some among us at GS.

Ahh classic whataboutism, "If Eteri is so bad whatabout Borser and don't forget the media". If you feel Eteri is so misunderstood feel free to defend her, but don't change the subject. For example, this interview with Eteri http://fs-gossips.com/eteri-tutberidze-during-the-work-pity-does-not-help/, where she talks about her past skaters. It's a translated article from rsport.ru. Now if you tell me it's poorly translated and Eteri isn't throwing her students under the bus, then elaborate. Otherwise after this interview, it's not surprising what she did to Zhenya.

You mentioned details, but you haven't provided any to backup your argument that Eteri is being treated unfairly.

I thought a bit on financial aspects. I think it's up to Medvedeva to make it all happen. If she shines during GP with all her power the Fed will keep paying everything following the traditional wisdom only with some modification: "if you don't feed your own army you will have to feed somebody else's". And in everything is not only Borser. BTW, who started this Borser business? Was it applied to anyone else like Mge or Ebuyanova, or Rarutyunyan? This one sound nice: Kade like Sade.

In addition to Orser it is also health care. If she needs continuous monitoring and further surgeries, this might be very expensive.

So she needs to perform. And the Fed will keep paying for everything. I am not the Fed but I have few doubts about that.

Yeah, I’m sorry that Americans come across like this. This is something I’d hear from my father and his generation. I think we as Americans don’t realize that we were also subjected to propoganda during the Cold War that shaped views about the USSR and socialism that likely persists to this day.

Just know that not all of us think this way and while our countries may sometimes have different perspectives on geopolitical policies, overall we have nothing against Russians. Although maybe they are stereotyped as being machismo crazy daredevils who love vodka. ;-) My dislike toward eteri has nothing to do with her being Russian, as I adore Zhenya and Alina!!!

Yes that something that i agree with Averbukh's work. He made excellent music choices, for both programs. Just the editing of step sequence part of 9/11 that is total crap. I think that it's mostly because of music that many people can enjoy his choreos.

Averbukh is a great choreographer and a great person. I admire him. I am observing him during his work with children on "Ледниковый Период" and he is like a father to them. I still can't stop watching his "Fiddler on the Roof" with with Alissa and Fedor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlbCAH0RWA8.
His "Piano Lesson with Grandma" was outstanding. I watched it many many times and every time I was finding something new. Yes, the voiceovers were unnecessary. Without them it would be one of the most memorable women single choreo in my memory. Just forget the voiceovers and watch it again. It's a magical masterpiece.
People are offended by the 9/11 theme? Why? Did Zhenia offend anyone? She gave full respect to the victims. Yes, without the 9/11, but only with the Grandma, it would be much better. However, did Yulia's "Girl in Red" offend Holocaust survivors? Did anyone speak about it? Show me a single one who was offended. The entire world was in a deep love with the program. The most memorable single program probably of the decade.

What was Buttle doing that is better than Ilya? His empty and "flirty" Wagner's programs that leave deep distaste in my mind and make me love my remote's fast forward?

Ilya is for me one of the leading choreographers in FS at the moment. I agree he was emotional in his recent statement about Orser, but in this situation you must understand there are probably many hurt people. And hurt people say emotional things.
I am hoping Zhenia will succeed under Orser, I hope Eteri will lose her license, but I also hope that Zhenia retains her Russian soul and will successfully represent Russia making her country proud.

As far as I can say (at least where I am coming from when I say "disrespectful"), the problem is that the choreography was rather weak for the program in question. For such a heavy theme, the choreography (which I for one found to be pretty bad) seemed like it had very little respect for it. In general, if you're picking a theme, and then choreographing weakly to it, to me it seems disrespectful, no matter what kind of theme it is.

For Lipnitskaya's program, it wasn't that bad, and the choreography wasn't as busy. But she was also capable of bringing a bit of gravitas to her performance, which was appropriate for the theme in question, and likely forestalled criticism. The miming in Medvedeva's program just didn't lend for her to bring even that.

That's what I was saying - remove 9/11 and leave only the piano lesson with grandma. The "heavy theme" factor is gone and you are left with a magical program.

I don't see why she should. What Eteri have done that it's so unforgivable and that is a threat for her skaters or Medvedeva? What does she do that others coaches don't do or have done?
Seriously this bashing is now out of this world. I've even read posts bashing Eteri students for not leaving her. Seriously, everyone is free to make his choice. More, Medvedeva left because she wants longevity. She left with two world titles and an olympic silver medal. Do you think she would leave if she had nothing? She can slowdown because she has already what most of others Russians won't have. These girls who are with Eteri want that too.
Eteri is not the most lovely person in the world but seriously......

..........If someone had said to me that i would speak in Eteri defense someday, i would have laugh hard

What Eteri have done that it's so unforgivable and that is a threat for her skaters or Medvedeva?

Violated teacher-student moral code when she brought into public private conversation she had with Zhenia. And she did in order to damage Zhenia's public image, who was her former student and was trusting her for years. Eteri violated that trust. That trust is a foundation of being a teacher and a leader.

I also hope that Zhenia retains her Russian soul and will successfully represent Russia making her country proud.

With as above and beyond as she went for Russia concerning the Olympics this year alone I would say there's no way she'll forget her heritage. Even in her statement, she said "I must change my place of residence", which to me IMO felt like "I might be living somewhere else but that doesn't mean I'm forgetting Russia/am no longer Russian". To me she just seems way too patriotic to leave that part of herself behind, no matter where in the world she is.

Like any choreographer, Buttle can be a hit or miss, but frankly, his Sweet Dreams was the best SP Ashley's ever had. It was also the only program he did for Ashley. Buttle's programs for Hanyu are outstanding, each different and each choregraphed down to the note (especially the original 2015 version of Hanyu's Chopin). I remember an Ed Sheeran program for Joshua Farris - mediocre song but the choreo elevated it. Black Betty for Fernandez was pretty good as well. Ah, and seriously love Swan Lake for Osmond (I'm one of those for whom Swan Lake is never a wrong choice). Rippon's clubby SP is great, and while I'm not a fan of Patrick Chan, I have it on good authority that his Elegie is a top-notch program.

Just to name a couple.

The great thing about Buttle is that he can do a variety of styles and fit the programs around a skater.

I'm pretty sure that other coaches brought into public privates conversations too, just that it was not so bad for their students' image. And that is not what will prevent medvedeva to get good results if Orser does a good job.
Would be funny to see Russian fed explain to Russian people that one of the most successful coaches can't train anymore because she violated a student trust.
There are worse and unforgivable things to do to deserve losing his license.

Orser also brought into public private conservation with Zhenya, too. :p No one cares about it..Double standard. Or you even don't notice it??

I like Averbukh programs most of the time, my favorite is undoubtedly Dance for me Wallis, really beautiful, contemporary music, unusual choreography, all very appropriate for the age. There was never a sexualized program or trying to make Zhenya look forcibly "mature", no, he was always respected her youth, and this one fits in well with the music.
About the mime, well, I'm an adult who spends 50% of her salary in going to the theater, ballet, and musicals, the mime IS a resource of the current arts, especially in Contemporary Dance, Averbukh didn't invent the mime. I think they also used sign language. And it's not the first time we see it in skating, Yagudin also used it in his olympic Olympic FS.
On the program of 9/11, the only thing that bothers me are the voice-overs that suddenly appear, scare the spectator and make attention lose. But the story I liked a lot, and I understood everything: the farewell of the beloved person who goes out to work, the beginning of despair, the people escaping and running, the escape of the asensor, and then at the end, the call announcing the bad news. A very postmodern view, I think that zhenya interprets it great. Everything is very rupturist.
the programs 2015-2017 worked, in my opinion. I didn't like Leftovers much or SP 2018, I think he was left without ideas, and both programs were similar, even the music, it was all very easy, flat, without stacatto, and the final positions are not shocking. What I like about the "war horses" is that they always end with a dramatic posture at the end, it's like "boom!" drama.
I think they did well to change Anna Karenina.
I don't want Zhenya to change her facial expression, I don't want Zhenya to be a second Yuna, she is the first Evgenia Medvedeva and that's what I love, she doesn't need to be anyone's double. Many of us like her expressiveness and charisma, that doesn't have to be changed. The "open mouth" comentary is so basic, subjective and disrespectful, that people who use that "argument" simply look bad herself.
Sasha Cohen had very good expression both facial and body, Ashley is very expressive too and I love that, Radionova is one of the most expressive Russian. Really that "modesty" that some are looking for, it's because the asian ladies dominated for 8 years, and evidently the culture was manifested, because with the American girls this was not so.

what private conversation?

EDIT: wait, is this about the meeting they had? it wasnt a confidence what she told him, he wait until she spoke about it first and most important, he didnt say any of that to put her in a bad light, like Eteri did

excuse my mistakes

I have not seen Zhenya’s 9/11 routine, but doesn’t it use actual recordings from first responders? I mean, if Yulia’s program utilized recordings of holocaust victims i think people would have a problem with that too.

The other thing is that Russia was involved in WWII, where as 9-11 was an American event so it feels somewhat out of place, possibly disrespectful, and somewhat exploitive for a Russian to use this tragedy for a performance. For many of us in America, especially those who lived in NYC at the time, this experience is still fresh and any performance about it needs to be really carefully crafted.

I mean it’s like if an artist from Australia did a performance about the 2011 terror attack in Norway.

Violating student-teacher trust is pretty darn bad for a coach. I would never send my daughter to a coach who revealed her private conversations to the media. There are more important things in this world than medals.

Brian saying what Evgenia told him, not in confidence, compared to Eteri deliberately trying to make her look bad? Nice try, not even close to the same thing :p

And claiming that any criticism of Eteri or Averbukh is part of some grand Eville Anti-Russian Konspiracy (tm). Well, whatever makes you feel better:confused2:

I do hope Zhenya slays this year. And I don’t even follow the ladies

It makes sense now. I thought she was moving to Orser because of the quality proposals, but she's just going for longevity and artistic choice. With Eteri, she wouldn't have that (and she probably really did want her to retire after the Olys).

So Orser is now politicking right away. Her technique's fine! She has a flutz, but meh! This way, she stays on top, without needing to rework technique too much and becoming inconsistent. Keep the tech with slight improvements and get better programs. She'll get better at SS to support that.

OK, maybe she really IS a contender for 2022, but not in a way I'd have liked.

That is what I was afraid of too, my friend. :slink: RIP figure skating. :sad21:
