Welcome to Shoma's FF we treat all types of Shoma addictions here!;)

Belated Welcome to Dreamer57! :)

It has nothing to do with the Olympics. It‘s about Worlds. If Shoma wants NHK he will get it. Yuzuru can also go, whether Shoma is there or not. They only have to invite him.

I see, thanks. I don't think Shoma has done NHK before, so that would be interesting if he did choose it.

Mid-Sept. Challenger Series
Oct. 6 Japan Open
Oct. 26-28 Skate Canada
Nov. 9-11 NHK Trophy
Dec. 6-9. GPF

I think this is a more comfortable schedule. He dosen't have to fly around the world. In addition, he has almost one month to rest and adjust before the GPF.

Well. Its just my wish. A fan's wish.

Seems like the ideal schedule, although I'm not sure he wants NHK. It will be fun to see how it all plays out. Of course he doesn't really get to choose. He just gives his preferences if I'm not mistaken. How I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall listening when The Powers That Be get together and decide who goes where. Maybe they'll be kind to us and decide early? (fat chance) :sad4: :console:

Welcome, ArianeJoy!

To Dreamer57: The choice of which skater goes to which Grand Prix event is dependent on two things- the choice of the top skaters and the federation of that event. In general, the top skaters at Worlds of the previous season (as MaiKatze said, the Olympics has no bearing on the events of the subsequent season) are divided into groups of 3- the podium (rank 1-3), then ranks 4-6, etc. These group of 3 skaters cannot meet in a grand prix event until the GPF, except for certain exceptions (Like Daisuke and Yuzuru in NHK a few years ago). Rank #1 skater gets to choose which two events he wants to go to, then rank #2 will have to choose from the remaining 4 events, then rank #3 gets the last two events. Rank #4 can choose to go to whichever event, then rank #5 gets to choose two events from the remaining 4, and so on.

The federation which hosts the event (JSF for NHK, Chinese for COC, Russian for Rostelecom etc) also have a say. They can invite skaters to their event. They usually prefer to invite their own skaters since the Fed may have some influence over the judging during the event, plus ticket sales may be better if you get local skaters. However they may not always want to invite two of their skaters who are in contention for the top spot in the podium, simply because that may lower the rank of a skater (ex. Shoma and Yuzuru are both Gold medal contenders, so putting them in one event will decrease the chances that both get Gold for their GP events, because they can't both get gold). Skaters' placements/ranks in the GP events get a certain number of points, which can go towards helping them qualify for the GPF.

I hope that was helpful.

I don't think so, Arriba. Why shouldn't he get to choose? Who should forbid him? Every Grand Prix that doesn't have Nathan is free game. Nathan is actively communicating what he wants to do, where he wants to go. Why shouldn't Shoma?

I could imagine that some higher up at the JFed says, hey we want Yuzuru at NHK, do you still want to go? And he could say 'yes' or 'no'. I don't know if he really minds. But I also don't think he's some pawn that has to do what the higher ups tell him.

Omg I love his laugh  it's so good to see him relaxing and having so much fun. Is he good at baseball? I think I heard that he is but I don't remember exactly.

here's a pic with him and Kotaro -> https://twitter.com/lovekeaton0831/status/999932020762423297

If there is one thing I love more than Shoma in ice-shows during off-season, it's knowing he's hanging out with his bro and pal, enjoying Yakiniku and baseball....just being a young man and happy! :agree2: He deserves it!

A matter of semantics maybe...He gives them his preferences and they do the best they can to accommodate him. I don't think he's assured of getting his picks though. They're working with the big picture and trying to get their ladies in the best position too, so I think it involves some give and take. He doesn't automatically get what he chooses. Knowing him the way we do, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he really doesn't care too much. His manager probably just tells him to pack his suitcase and here's what time we're picking you up! :luv17:

Oh these batting cage photos -- Kotaro, thank you! We love you! I wonder if Kotaro will go to Chicago again and if he is still competing at this point. He certainly has blessed us with some wonderful photos. And it warms my heart to think that Shoma gets to lead a somewhat normal life. He's so athletic, in general. Didn't he used to play tennis too? And I remember reading he and Itsuki used to play volleyball a lot.

We won't know, but I still disagree. I think Shoma is now in a position where he doesn't have to accomodate anyone, especially not Ladies? I mean, I could imagine that perhaps if Yura Matsuda or if Mako turns senior, they will look into them getting the same GP's as Shoma because of Fluffy - thinking of budget, but that's the only possibility. He brought home an Olympic Silver medal - one of the very few medals Japan got. He went to Worlds, when he obviously wasn't at his best to ensure they keep their spots for the next World Championship. If he wants to go to NHK and Yuzuru also wants to go, so what? The alternative of not going to NHK is only back to back competitions for Shoma. (Counting out Rostelecom, SA and France) We know that Shoma needs time to get over jetlag and get accostumed to the timezones. If he is forced to go to Cup of China immediately after Skate Canada, that would put him in a hard spot. The one who actually can choose whatever is Yuzuru, he hasn't been on the podium, and every GP (aside from Skate America) would probably glady invite him. Yuzuru is not restricted, like Shoma, because he wasn't at Worlds, so Nathan's GP's are free game, and so are Mikhails.

It seemed everything happened earlier last year (program announcements, GP assignments), probably because of the Olys? I found my happy post from 2016, and the assignments were given on June 30 -- boo hoo! So I'd say June 29 is about right. https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?55427-Shoma-Uno&p=1449414&viewfull=1#post1449414

Shedi0806, Nathan has expressed an interest in the French GP due to his school schedule (and Sk Amer is pretty much a given), so it seems doubtful that Shoma will get that. Mikhail will get COR. So his most likely possibilities seem to be Sk Can, China, and NHK.

ArianeJoy, the Prince is very addictive. Welcome to the Dead Banana Club. It's good to have the support of other fans when NoShomaNews-itis strikes.

Thank you so much! I cannot wait for the GP assignments. Really rooting for Shoma to finally get the so deserved gold medal at a major competition in the upcoming season. Also wish him healthy and happy and so excited to see his new programs.

I hope that was helpful.

Yes it was, thank you so much!

I watched Shoma's GPF FS before going to work this morning, I had Loco Loco Loco in my head all day!
Logged on just now to find all these posts of Shoma having fun :) and indulging in 2 of his favourite things: sport and meat xD

I need someone to assure me that I'll likely be able to sell a ticket to skate canada if i buy one now and Shoma doesn't end up going there D: I'm willing to blow a lot of money I don't have on going to watch the skating, but I'd rather blow it all seeing Shoma

That's a tough call, but I'd say if Shoma isn't there, there's a possibility Yuzu would be there and you would be able to sell the ticket. If neither of them are there (which seems highly unlikely to me), I don't know. Right now LOTS of tickets are sold, because I think many people are buying them in the hopes that Yuzu will be there. There are so many "what ifs", it's hard to say. I just bought my ticket a few days ago, and I'm back in Row N (14th row), Section 111.
https://www.bing.com/images/search?...608014208684459331&selectedIndex=0&ajaxhist=0 I always buy an end seat if possible, partly because I like that and also because they're easier to sell.

ETA -- Just to complicate things, the email went out today saying that All-Event passes will go on sale on May 30 for 4CC. No single tickets yet, but this post gives a good summary of the info. Seems pretty expensive compared to the free Taiwan tickets. https://goldenskate.com/forum/showt...-information&p=2102836&viewfull=1#post2102836

I decided to buy one, and I'm just hopeful I'll be able to sell it if Shoma isn't there! The problem is it's not the *best* seating, because I don't have enough money to buy the more expensive ones, but it is a couple of rows behind the kiss and cry, so maybe someone will be eager to grab it once the assignments come out! Fingers crossed Shoma is going to Canada I guess :O

:clapper: :gclap:  Good move. Now we say our prayers. Last year I bought my all-event pass from a lady in Japan. Someone here on GS advertised the ticket, and we did the money transaction through Pay Pal. Worked like a charm. And she was even kind enough to give me a discount.
