WAAAAHHH Finally managed to watch Zhenya's performance. It was so beautiful, it took my breath away.

I'm just amazed by her courage, not every skater would have the guts to do their own coreo, let alone one that obviously speaks a lot about personal experience and feelings.

I've seen a few people criticising the miming, but those are normally non-fans who don't know much about what she's been through. As 'insiders', we know exactly what it means, the 'imprisonment', the slap in the face, the desperation.

Well done, Zhenya. Truly well done.

PS- Can't wait to see the 'CATS' performance!

Not knowing what she's been through these past few months can't prevent you from enjoying the program I suppose, but knowing the story makes it way deeper, emotional and sad :(

:rofl: Funny as we all know what this is about, and still eveyrone understands it differently
 
I think any performance is open to interpretation and that is the beauty of any artistic piece (whether it be music, visual art, performance, writing, etc...). Zhenya should never tell anyone the "details" of the meaning of the performance but just give them a broad, overall label for it. Leave it up to the audience to interpret it as they will.

With that said, *coughs*, I think what she is doing in the beginning is writing her name to a contract. She is starting the "story." She has innocent hopes and dreams of the future as she does so. It is the start of her career. The ending is of course her signing her X for the next stage of her career, wiping away all that came before it. She does it with trepidation. She is older now. She is experienced. She is now a woman who knows the world around her. It is an act of renewal, forgiveness, putting it behind her, moving forward. But, again, that is just my personal interpretation. What it meant for me in seeing it.

It was the perfect performance to be a bridge between last season and the one to come.

I think we all know that she is telling her own story. After the Loop she looked happy, then with the change of music, everything began to be more emotional, I could not help but cry!:sad21: She tells us perfectly all her emotions, from calm to storm. And the end, by God, I shed tears, she may still be sad, we don't know, because she always smiles, every time she speaks she throws a smile, but we have no idea how difficult and sad it could have been for her .




I love Zhenya's performance, her choreography, the music, her originality. I hope she use more Einaudi compositions for future programs. She still has to recover her jumps, it looks like she felt some insecurity when throwing them, but I discovered that her Salchow now has more ice cover, yayyy!

Yes, she looks more curvy now, she has gained some weight, but it is normal, since she has not trained. Besides she is exercising her muscles, Orser mentioned it, she must first heal and work her body.

I hate the people who say "ohhhh, more mimic", the music is contemporary, and the choreography too, all this is seen in the dance, Zhenya is not doing anything that has not been seen in the current dance scenarios. I don't know if it's just ignorance or pathos of these people, if they believe that skaters are only allowed to make classic ballet movements ?, These people don't seem to attend musicals or theater, they have zero contemporary culture. Give me a break, please.

Ugh I know, this is an exhibition program I honestly could care less. No offense but skating fans who get annoyed at or criticize exhibitons, make no sense to me. It's for fun and to explore some things, who cares! I wanna remind them that figure skating is like the only sport where their athletes do tours while on "break". It's resting time but instead they're out here flying to Japan or wherever to do shows. smh

That is probably true specifically for this program, but in a general sense, it seems to me that those who don't like the miming are primarily people who have watched skating for some time now. I only watched it during the Olympics until I saw Zhenya, and the miming is part of what drew me in, even though it was toned down in the Olympics. However, when I saw River Flows in You on YouTube, I was completely blown away (it is still my favorite program) because 1) I had never seen toe picks used like that before, so the hopscotch was the coolest thing I'd ever seen on skates, and 2) I understood the story without knowing anything about it. I could tell that it was the maturation process of a young girl who leaves childish things behind and grows stronger and more passionate. I didn't need to hear a summary of it in Ice and Fame, but it was nice to get the confirmation.

When I read comments about her miming (Averbukh's really, I suppose), most of the criticism seems to come from people who have followed skating for awhile and don't feel that miming and melodrama are a part of the sport. They find it over the top and unpalatable. I even had this conversation with a full-on Zhenya stan this morning after the show. She wishes that Zhenya would drop the miming and be more subtle like other skaters, but I love the miming and the way it sets her apart. Another person in the chat, one who, like me, became interested in skating after seeing Zhenya in the Olympics, agreed with me, and I have seen this on the FS sub-another site, too. Fans with more tenure in the sport tend to like the miming less than brand new fans who have just seen her for the first time. Of course, there are new fans who don't like it and old fans who do, but as a general rule, it seems to me that those who have not paid enough attention to figure skating to know what it's "supposed" to look like are far more impressed with her miming than those who formed opinions about the sport before having seen her perform.

I've been following this sports since 2016 and the hate i have been reading about her performances has always surprised me. I like "normal" programs as well but Zhenya has always standed out (for me) because I can really connect with her and her stories more so than with any other skater that i have seen.
I think people who hate her will always find a reason to hate her... "they said if only she would stop flutzing i would like her or if only she wouldn't use mime and pantomime i would like her, if only she would leave Eteri...":disapp: People won't change their minds we can only keep supporting her art and loving her.:love:

I listened this music before and thought that it would be perfect for Zhenya! The melody also remind me of Masquerade Suite - Waltz wich is a very famous piece (used by V/T in Sochi and also Dimitri Aliev this olys) :luv17:
 
How cool! Zhenya will have some of the best skaters in the world as her teammates - plus, Boyang is hilarious 😆

You hit the nail in the head there. I'm a relatively new fan and I don't mind the miming in the slightest, although I also like her non-miming programs like Kukushka.
