Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Choreography: Still in its early stages, so some motions need more fullness and some areas might need re-thinking, but I liked his exits from his jumps, new spin positions, and over-all it left a good impression. The stumble on the climax of the music made me giggle. The smoothness of his movements stands out to me.

For things I hope will change, each skater has 'filler moves' that they put in when they aren't thinking or want to express something but don't have the movement quite decided yet. Yuzu is using a lot of that for this program. I know he goes back and watches his performances closely, so I hope he will smooth out those moves and/or replace them with more pertinent choreography. I have a lot of faith that he'll do this, as he is known for changing his choreo a lot himself from performance to performance.

What does everyone else think of the new EX? Is it good, bad, ok, hope he will change it completely?
I ignore the yellow whatever on his costume. The rest is just great imo.
I'm really in love with his Ina Bauer here, especially these nice arm moves which look like... ocean waves? The new layback position is wonderful, too.
Yuzu and his jumps... can we really talk about figure skating jumps anymore? Yuzu is skating and all of a sudden he takes off to fly. I LOVE it!!! Delayed 1A in Notte Stellata, now this lovely 3T... It's great to see these "small" jumps with such quality. That's really rare.

There's something else, I'm really happy about: Yuzu 100% enjoys skating at the moment. We could see it at CWW already. There's no tension, he's not thinking that much, just skating and smiling and he's absolutely confident and professional. You don't think for a second that anything could go wrong (even if it does  )
That impression might change, when the quads are back and he's competing again, I don't know. But I feel, that something snipped in his head after Olympics. That incredible pressure seems to be off now and the impact is great :hap10:

OMG it seems to be confirmed: Yuzu, Boyang and Jason training together at TCC!!! :yahoo::love::hap93:

My favorite skating trio in one team... a perfect jumper, a perfect artist, a perfect allrounder and three sunshines... that's unreal... 24 hours happiness in Toronto

Well, they are competitors after all so I guess there’s bound to be some tension. But I guess I’ll take comfort in the thought that these two seem to be the more smiley ones among the skaters and that they seem to get along with yuzu pretty well.
It’ll be interesting to see how TCC trains them, Boyang and Jason being on two sides of the spectrum while Yuzu is the balanced one sitting in the middle.

If you ask me, a whole lot of tension in Toronto.
I am happy Yuzuru is where he is in his career and well, good luck to the rest of those guys.

I think that at this point in his career, there is nothing and nobody he should be worrying about. He has nothing left to prove, he can just enjoy skating and try out whatever he wants to try out. I think he's going to feel competition from Boyang mostly (sorry, but Jason is just not in the same league), but then again, Yuzuru thrives on competition.

I'm a bit worried that the full level of attention they all need and deserve might be at risk (and being selfish, I worry most about Yuzu, he comes first for me, sorry Boyang and Jason, and while I quite like Zhenya I'm fairly disinterested in women's skating) but given that Brian asked Javi about bringing Yuzu on board, I wonder if he did the same with Yuzu when contemplating the TCC expansion...

They are both quite sunny, friendly sorts and, like Yuzu, openly and happily affectionate (I saw a little clip of Sochi - straight after the freeskate, when Jason was last to go and would have obviously been disappointed - still offering a quick but unobtrusive congrats and hug to Yuzu just before the media frenzy really got going, which I thought was nice). Of all the major skaters at the minute, these two are the ones I would - for entirely unprofessional and unblushingly emotional reasons - pick to go to TCC, but I didn't think they both would!

I have to giggle though - Yuzu is losing his fulltime training partner (though I believe Javi will be returning to them, just less often) and Brian obviously thinks the hole needs more than one person to fill....

I woke up with surprising news :drama: Now I'm so curious what Yuzuru is thinking about these coaching changes, but I don't think he will be interviewed near future. (Japanese media has not reported both coaching changes of Boyang and Jason yet)

Yeah I hope TCC knows what they are doing, and until proven otherwise, I will give them the benefit of doubt for now. But taking in 3 new skaters at once feels a bit too much. I didn't even think Boyang's arrangement could be permanent after Zhenya was announced, because that's already a lot, but now with one more skater?

The only thing crazier would be if the person coming in is Nathan instead of Jason... And well while that would never happen, the thought alone is enough to give me shiver...

I do feel better knowing that it's a coaching team that's responsible, not just Order himself. And that each skater is at a different stage in his/her skating career that they are working on completely different things. I don't see Yuzuru saying anything other than kind/positive words if they do ask him about these changes.

I can see next season though, when one of these skaters does not perform well, people will blame the crowded TCC right away...

remember when Yuzu lost Worlds 2016? people were blaming Brian cause he wasnt 24/7 with him, suddenly he was the worst ever, next season is going to be crazy, Im getting ready for the arguments

Worlds 2016 was Brian's fault, to an extent. Partially it was Yuzuru's fault, and even Shirota had a share of the guilt. So actually Worlds 2016 is a very good indicator how something like this can go wrong, even if people have the best of intentions. And now, there's more than just 2 of them to juggle.

I don't think Yuzuru is going to have issues, apart from the whole who goes with him to competitions, considering where he is at in his career so it's fine for him and he knows how to handle having a direct competitor there, as he has plenty of experience now to ask for things that he finds necessary (like separate ice for example).
The rest, well as I said, good luck to everyone. Good intentions don't mean it'll work out great in an enviorment where so many extremely competitive people congregate.

I'd say with the personalities involved and Brian and Tracy's commitment to harmony, I'm more optimistic than otherwise. They navigated the Oly year tension between Javi and Yuzu and their illness/injury and both of them medaled there, warm hugs all around. Moreover, Brian and Tracy clearly thought hard about what bringing Jason to TCC would mean and whether it could be done. We know they have a history of checking in with the skaters already resident there on whether they are open to a potential new member. Brian and Tracy brought him to the TCC and watched how he'd interact with those present and it went very well. Tracy is committed to Jason and will not let him feel shunted aside. Due diligence in action.

I am sure there will be bumps, but nothing so far among the skaters and coaches involved suggests trouble to me. Fed politicking would be the most probable source of disharmony imo...

So much news and changes in the air. :eeking:

Also, June will be a 'Yuzu Month' as well. Every weekend he will be appearing in an ice show.
Week1: Kanazawa FAOI
Week2: Legends and the Future and JOC awards
Week3: Kobe FAOI
Week4: ShizuokaFAOI
Am I getting the order right? Am I missing something?
Then I guess he will disappear to Toronto again and start training for the season in earnest. Before he goes, he might also be shooting some new CMs and promotional things for his sponsors so they have something to show us during the Summer (just my hope)
