Indeed. Xu Zhaoxiao was the first figure skater to represent China at Winter Olympic Games back in 1980. He and his wife Fu Caishu have been Boyang's coaches for the last eight or nine years. I remember from some interviews given by Boyang and his mother that Boyang had not been training very systematically for about a year before Xu and Fu took him as a student. At first he wasn't a standout student but was able to pick up the jumps he had lost in three months under their guidance. The couple spent a lot of time on him. I think Boyang reminisced at one point that they spent more time with him than with their own son.

"He is super talented but a bit of a loose cannon, like Javi was when he came to me (also at age 20)," Orser said. "I have to give him direction and purpose. That will come with maturity."
The new president of the Chinese Skating Association, Xue Shen, the 2010 Olympic pairs champion with husband Hongbo Zhao, approached Orser at worlds in March to discuss the possibility of his coaching Jin. The skater staggered into 19th place at worlds after winning bronze the previous two years.
"With the next Winter Olympics in Beijing, she (Shen) is shaking things up a little," Orser said. "I know it's about medals, medals, medals in Beijing."
Orser said Wednesday he has had no extended conversation with Jin since the deal was struck. They chatted briefly at a show in South Korea last month, when Orser also had the meeting with Medvedeva that led to her upcoming training move to Canada.
Although Jin is in Toronto doing choreography with Lori Nichol, Orser does not expect to work with him until mid-June. The coach is going on vacation next week and then to Japan for a Hanyu ice show.
When the Japanese Skating Federation approached Orser about having Hanyu work with him in 2012, the coach asked Fernández to sign off on the idea. Orser approached the Jin situation differently with Hanyu when they met in April at the Japanese superstar's apartment in Toronto.
"I didn't really ask [Hanyu] for permission," Orser said. "I just threw it out there to get his reaction, and I didn't really get one. I'm sure if there was an issue, I would have heard about it by now."

Orser said he will arrange schedules to avoid having daily "star wars" at the Cricket Club in the upcoming season.
"I don't expect to have them all on the ice at the same time, except when they are just doing stroking," he said. "And we have ice time at another rink, so it will be manageable."

Finally... wow didn't even bother asking Hanyu for permission, and no reaction means 'sure! everything is fine'. Talk about taking someone's politeness for granted. The fact you are publicising you didn't even bother to ask where as previously you were considerate enough to ask Javier really is another faux pas with respect to your client. Even though that is likely not what you have in mind.
Brian Brian, you still haven't learnt any cultural sensitivity from your other Asia clients have you lol... communication is the key. Politeness, no reaction does not always mean no problem and willing acceptance. Some of your ignorance of eastern unspoken etiquette continues to blow my mind.
Well...for sure in the future, you will also likely get a lot of polite 'no reactions' from BYJ and the Chinese feds as well, but just bear in mind, no reaction does not always mean there's no nothing there... Asians are bit likely that, all about face, and what one should allow to express to their elders/teacher, perhaps both sides need to work better and be sensitive to each other's style and 'unspoken' communication.
Avoid Star Wars indeed... the thought of Han Yan bump into Yuzuru on a daily basis can be a thing of nightmares. Perhaps it is time TTC consider a second practice rink, can charge tickets to come and watch. Bet they can make a mint.

I find it a little odd and contrary to what Orser'd said before. This sounds like 'I am letting you know to be polite but the decision is already made by me and there is nothing you can do about it'

Oh no, this whole situation just reminds me of his split with Yuna Kim. I really really hate how it looks. Perhaps Brian thinks that Yuzu had reached his potential and can basically do whatever his heart desire. Well, his heart desires to win. And Boyang awarded with Javi's PCS and all the quads on a plate is a lethal weapon against Hanyu. The idea of different rinks is going to develop until, well... The truth is Hanyu has no other coach to switch to. He and Brian are a perfect combo. If it goes wrong it will be Brian's fault solely. And his biggest fail.

And it sounds to me like Orser knows that. Also by bringing Javi into his explanation, Orser seems to imply: see, Javi had to put up with you joining the team years ago, now it is your turn to put up with Boyang's arrival. Not even too subtle

Yuna went back to her former coaches, and won Worlds and almost the Olympics. There can be a life after Brian Orser, whether one likes it or not. Boyang Jin needs change and something different to work to his goal, the Gold at 2022 Olympics in his homeland. He needs Brian Orser more than Yuzuru Hanyu. Does Yuzuru Hanyu even need a coach anymore? If he wants to continue until Beijing (which I doubt) he could do it on his own/ with coaches that are not on Orser's level.

I was shocked when I read this and honestly disappointed with Orser... That just screams bad news...

It looks to me though Orser thinks Yuzuru has achieved all that he wants to(double gold medalist !) and dont really need his guidance anymore. I mean a lot of people thought Yuzuru is going to retire after 2018.
So Orser's moving on to other potential prospects. Basically 'Kiddo, you've achieved your goal, double gold. So I'm going to take in more students.'
Orser took in Yuzuru before Javi won major tournaments, still work in progress. It could very well be these days Tracy wilson and Ghislain will be coaching Yuzuru like during OG. Yuzuru will need Ghislain more anyway as he gets back his quads and try for 4A.
Thats how I would read it, as an Asian.
But it doesn't mean this is what Yuzuru thinks of all of this.
They need to have a very long and very open conversation- Brian and Yuzuru, face to face. And I really hope Yuzuru will express all the things he has in mind about new training surrounding. He's not done. And if Yuzuru would demand Brian to be there for him same volume- so should Brian do. It is Yuzuru who's paying him not vice versa.

This I agree. Yuzuru can train mainly with Tracy & Ghislain , which was what he did before Olympics.
Not just Yuzuru, the other new student, Jason Brown. Orser sounds like he wouldnt have time to be Jason's main coach but will learn from a team of coaches. Then let Jason decide. Its different approach with experienced skaters

I put in the last sentence cos another forumer was 'shocked' and said he/she is not Asian.
I'm giving another perspective. One is for Asians, the coach/teacher decides, we dont protest unless the newbie is really2 bad character.
Yuzuru likes Boyang, esp Boyang's 4Lutz. Lol. Both Boyang and Jason are nice and bubbly, they should have lots of fun together.
Of course, none of us , Asian or otherwise, knows what Yuzuru really thinks abt this. Just everyone with our points of view.
Anyway, back to Boyang since this thread is about him, I do hope they can get Boyang not to jump so close to the boards.
Jason actually asked Tracy Wilson to be his coach after he spent time in TCC and she was thrilled with him. Jason did not choose Brian first.
As per Yuzuru- let him decide that by himself with none of us all involved in this issue.
