2018-2019 GP Assignments

Even then, I think they would more likely cancel one of the six events.

I disagree. Cancelling an event would mess things up a lot, so if there will be any country willing to host it, they will still run it.
No fed wants the event cancelled, because GP spots, qualification to GPF and so on.

I don't think either holding two events in one country or canceling a GP is a real hazard. At worst, they could always transform a Challenger or Senior B event into a GP. It might not have all the accoutrements of a regular GP--regular-sized arena, multiple bathroom facilities, quality heating, substantial advertising, etc.--but those arenas are prepared to host a competition with many international skaters.

Based on what I could make of a badly google translation of a tweet by a Korean fan, a newspaper there is saying it'll be in Milan again. Love the Milan crowd, but still super disappointed in the KSU. Disappointed but not surprised....

No, the twitterian was referring to the Japanese reports,

This is not a Korean newspaper.

Besides the twitterian did not mention the source of the Milan suggestion. I suspect it could be a circular reference of ideas coming out from this very thread.

What’s the point of building ice arenas if you are not going to use them? :hpull::hpull::hpull:

Oh ok! Sorry for spreading wrong information and thank you so much for clarifying it so quickly! Shouldn't mess with a language I'm not fluent in.:drama: So the hope is still alive?! Cmon Samsung or Hyundai...

At this point I wonder if C/L are waiting on whether the Grand Prix is relocated to Italy before announcing their plans.

Hopefully them debuting this new exhibition program is a sign that they will use it for their free next season. They do love representing Italy and bringing the Italian programs . Hopefully, that means Marchei/Hotarek will stay too for another season.

Are assignments due the 28th or the 29th? I thought it was 28, but now I keep seeing 29 pop up in this thread... *confused*

I don't think a show program tells us anything either way about Cappellini & Lanotte continuing competitively. They are gifted show skaters. I never had any doubt that they would continue performing. They have also said that they hope to one day open an ice dance school in Italy, so it's not like their plans are to separate & remain off the ice. The question is whether they will keep competing.

It would be quite wonderfully ironic if they do as they have competed at more senior Worlds than any other current dance team. I don't expect it, but they just may. They've had plenty of time now to bow out and haven't made an announcement yet. We'll see who's on the list. Though in C&L's case, there really is no compulsion to decide before the GP list comes out. No one else from Italy is likely to be able to use their spots if they withdraw late. Still, of all the teams, you would think they would know if they are done. I'd think the odds are rather good that we will know their plan at the end of this month. On the plus side for us, it's quite likely the Italian Federation is urging them to continue. Small countries have their pluses.

Last month David Molina tweeted "ISU Sr GP assignments of #figureskating season 2018/19 should be decided in exactly 1 month, June 26-28 in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦"

I guess it may depend on how quick ISU is to put a press release after they finalized the decisions.

There is a 6 hour difference between Toronto and CET. If the decision is made in the evening local time, the announcement will well be on 29 technically in Europe.

So he meant that the process of making the decision will take two days (26-28)? Or did he mean that it may be 26, 27 or 28?
(A rhetorical question, I know you can't know for sure  )
