“I feel great right now, and I am training really hard and getting stronger every day,” he said. He is not discouraged by what happened to him. “That was not the best experience in my life, but people around me, such as the team doctors, the medical team from US Figure skating, my coaches, my choreographer, my friends, my family, my girlfriend and her family supported me a lot and that made the whole process so much easier. This will only make me stronger.”

Krasnozhon recently switched coaches from Darlene and Peter Cain, who were his guardians when he was a minor when he moved to the USA without his parents, to Olga Ganicheva and Alexei Letov. He is training with the new coaches at the Dr. Pepper Starcenter in Plano, Texas. “I decided to switch coaches because I feel like I want to try something new and switch up my training atmosphere,” said the 18-year-old, who also moved into his own apartment.

Oh to be 18 again......

Krasnozhon has prepared two new programs for the season to show his growth and development as a skater. “My short program was choreographed by Scott Brown to the music ‘Dancing on My Own’ and this program will show a totally different style of my skating,” the Texan revealed. “My long program was choreographed by Marina Zueva and it is a classical, powerful piece of music to ‘Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 16’ (by Edvard Grieg). Right now, I am working on my presentation and trying to look like a senior skater. I am working on my jumps as well.”

I'm looking forward to seeing the long!

“I know a lot of people don’t like me because I am skating for the U.S. and some people are saying, ‘He’s taking U.S. spots.’ I read that on Golden Skate (forum) and it’s really funny. I love reading that stuff!”
Did someone here actually say that? :laugh2: :palmf: Good luck to the 2017 U.S. Junior National champ this season!

Glad to see he got picked up for two GP events as well! Here's hoping he will get a Challenger event.

He’s reading GS:shocked: I hope only for laughs:biggrin:

sounds like he was living with the Cains, and they were foster parents, which I didn’t realize.

Now I have been following almost all the Alex threads and I don’t know anyone who said that about US spots, although anything is possible:laugh:

I love Dancing On My Own :yahoo:

Good luck on your senior debut season Alexei and if things don't go well with USFSA, you can skate for Brazil.

I found him a very sympathetic person, from what I've seen in Kiss and Cry's and was shocked by his injury. Am glad he is getting ready for the senior competitions.

Ha, makes me glad that all my posts about Alex has been about how nice his 3A is.

I've enjoyed seeing him improve as a skater in the last few years and am confident he'll do great this season!

Alex is a very determined competitor with lots of grit. I have so enjoyed his JGP performances and am looking forward to even better success for him as a senior skater. Go, Alex!!

A determined young man who knows what he wants. Great interview, a lot to admire there.

Love that he reads GS. He must have a strong constitution

I have not seen him skate very much and his skating isn't really my usual style. Having said that I remember watching him at Nationals and loving the diversity he brought. His energy and approach to skating was unlike anyone else's. I hope his choreographers can use and refine those qualities.

Will he use the right version of dancing on my own though?

Important question. Everything could easily go off the rails with a bad cover.

Depends how we define 'the right version' ;)

For me, he really could rock the original, with electro beat and energetic vibe, but it will be probably too risky judging-wise. There is Callum Scott's famous version, but maybe there is some unknown/not so popular cover/version to be used? Nothing but the best for Alex, such a personality, always a joy to watch and impressive already with maturity for me!

I'm impressed with his determination. He was one of the ones skating sick at Nationals. He's got grit and a ton of personality. I think he can go far!

Help me out because I am confused.

From what I have read, Alex's parents live in Russia so I assume they are Russian. Alex was born in Russia. At some point, Alex decided he wanted to come to the US to train. If all that is correct, how does he skate for the US? Or am I missing something?

He can skate for the US if he does all the proper paperwork, I'm guessing. Also I think the fact he never represented Russia internationally made it easy for him as well. The only thing he can't do is represent the US at the Olympics since he isn't a citizen. But he's been in the US for nearly 5 years, I think, so he can probably apply soon if not already.

Krasnozhon moved to the U.S. and lived with Peter Cain and Darlene Cain who would become his coaches. He announced in Mar 2014 he wanted to represent the U.S. On July 1, 2015, the Russian Figure Skating Federation released Krasnozhon so that he could compete internationally for the United States.
