Jason Brown

Those things were a factor, sure. And I'm definitely not saying it's ALL Kori's fault either or that Jason is blameless in the situation either.

That said, I do question the constant layout switching last season. And the fact they waited to change the choreography of the FS (or that they didn't go back to The Piano FS) until U.S. Nationals. Everything just felt really reactionary last season.

But i don't know, maybe everything had to happen the way they did so Jason could realize it was time to make some major changes.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't mean to bring up a debate with that post -- I just felt a certain sentiment, which is why I brought it up.

I think we're all glad that Jason seems to be in a good place now and we have things to look forward to as fans.

I've felt for a long time that if one puts in and takes out a jump difficulty - in this case the quad, but could be something else - depending on anything other than injury or illness (those are entirely different circumstances) chances are that that difficulty becomes a bugbear in the skater's mind. I've seen it with multiple skaters who do that - they never seem to develop consistency with that jump.

Note: Of course putting in an element that the skater has not mastered, at all, is also something I'm against, as that too will play havoc with the skater's confidence. But if an element has been deemed good enough to put in - then keep it in. Don't try to "protect" the skater from it, or keep them "safe" from failure. It then becomes this Terrible Thing that should be avoided if at all possible - and it's not a good thing if the skater gets the sense that he's almost expected to fail at it.

Doris, that’s a hard question to answer - mainly because I can’t recall seeing his skaters in summer competitions. Perhaps @Haleth will know? I kinda think it’s a long shot that he’ll be in Philly, but he did say he’s going to do a benefit around that time though - I can’t recall where, but somewhere in the Northeast? Maybe @el henry knows, as I think she mentioned it.

Mrs P, in retrospect my last post comes off very strongly - but just to be clear, I didn’t mean to be critical of you for bringing up or even agreeing with Tonto K’s post. My apologies if it seems that way. I was pretty tired and didn’t edit my post as I probably should have - sorry about that. I agree with you that the constant layout changes were hugely problematic, and that they should have switched the FS sooner - but I can see why they didn’t. It’s a shame he’d already had Piano for two seasons, because I think he probably would have been able to add a quad more easily.

The truth is, last season seemed like a mistake to me from the very beginning - they were simply too ambitious on too many fronts, and they left everything too late - the FS music wasn’t even finished until the beginning of July, and he also had a taxing new SP. It seems to me they made a series of choices - the relatively last minute decision to have music composed, the decision to then make the FS choreography so complex, the decision to add into the mix a new, complex SP, and the decision to add two quads to both programs - that may have worked individually, but together were really problematic.

Starting the season with Piano could have been difficult - it’s the perfect vehicle for him, but I think he was tired of it. So a program building on the Piano - new challenges but still in a style that showed him off - was a good idea. Waiting until April to start the process, however, and then having music specially composed, wasn’t. I know he was focusing on his recovery and performing well at Worlds before that, but it’s silly to think that with such an important season looming, they couldn’t have found time to start the preparation process, say, the prior December.

So to me, the constant layout changes were the consequence of the series of poor decisions made earlier in the season, but it was kind of like trying to put a bandaid on a gaping wound. As to going back to Piano sooner, I actually wonder if that was even considered earlier in the season, and how it would have worked. It may be that they changed it for 4CCs just so he could end the season on a positive note.

Anyway, here’s hoping the next season- and the next quad - are better!

Grant’s, Jim Peterson’s (not on this one, but in general) and now Gracie’s comments on Jason’s posts give me life:laugh:

I loved the one from Jim last week when Jason posted another split jump on instagram. (Jason posted after Audrey Weisiger had shared all the photos of skaters in the Jason cut out at G2C.)

jpcoach Dear Jason, if I see this split jump one more time this weekend it’s over.

:laugh2:

Jason is the All-American boy, that's for sure. Here's more posts with Jason:

(As someone that writes about tariffs for a living, I found this one pretty clever.)

ETA: If anyone was questioning Jason’s love for the US now that he lives in Canada (said no one ever) he’s devoting his IG story to wearing all the USA theme outfits he owns today.

(I’m starting to think he need to get Zhenya to do the same on some major Russian patriotic holiday).

With Jason's outfits, his photos are certainly custom made for celebrating the Fourth.:agree:

And I do find the cultural differences (*without* wanting to debate them) fascinating. I think I can safely say we all wanted Jason to go to Brian, were so happy when he did go to Brian, and I think I safely say that we'd be happy for Jason to go to Mishin, Stephane Lambiel or any coach in Japan or Timbuktu if it helped him achieve his goals, without a thought as to where it was and without questioning at all what Jason thought about the US of A.

As long as it had a good internet connection for posting on Twitter and IG:biggrin:

Are you maybe talking about the ISI benefit in Boston? From his website:

ISI Benefit Show
Friday, July 27, 2018 at 7 p.m.
New England Sports Center, Marlborough, MA

I saw on Twitter that Jason was spotted on a bench outside a Dollorama yesterday (I'm afraid I didn't save) but the Torontonian who tweeted it just let him be, as they say he was "chillin'". Which I thought was nice. Lots of Dolloramas here too, so that meant it unlikely anyone could rush out to disturb him. So a polite, hospitable Torontonian!

I love random big city encounters like that! Shows how small of a world were in.

I probably would have not shown as much restraint. I would have yelled his name lol.

(True story, one time I saw this indie rock band walk by (my friend and I just were at this band’s concert and I’m like “Hey!” And they turned around. My friend never let me live it down, but they were nice and gave me an autograph.)

@Rosa74 to the rescue:thumbsup: I don’t know if that Boston show means he’s more likely or less likely to do a summer comp, but remember when Jason had typically by now skated Broadmoor, signed up for Glacier Falls and sometimes did Skate Detroit? Times have changed;)

And did everyone see Ashley Cain’s comment on Jason’s July 4 post “It is Jason Brown’s world and we’re just living in it”

Regarding Philly, didn’t someone say Jason and one of his bff were going to a concert in Toronto on July 30? If so, it might conflict with Philly.

My two cents:

If(???) Jason wanted to compete at Philadelphia International, I think it would be perfectly do-able by traveling there on Jul 31 (or even Aug 1).

The most recent schedule available online says that International Men SP official practice is on Thu Aug 2 and that International Men SP competition is on Fri Aug 3.

Even if(??) they were to revert to the preliminary schedule, International Men SP official practice would be on Wed Aug 1 and International Men SP competition would be on Thu.

Obviously, I have no idea whether Jason actually wants to compete there.
If he wanted to, I do not think that logistics would be an issue.

ETA (on Jul 23):

Update:
Per revised schedule as of Jul 13, International Men SP official practice now is on Fri Aug 3 and International Men SP competition is on Sat Aug 4.

I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t show up until Sept. for the senior Bs/Challenger Series events (I hope Autumn Classic for you Tavi!).

I will keep my fingers crossed for ACI!

Thanks for posting the On Ice Perspectives clip - I am not sure if this is different than the one he posted not too long ago, but even if it’s the same it doesn’t matter because I love watching it! His skating is great here and I love that super low hydro blade - it seems like his hydro blades in competition were getting a bit perfunctory so it’s good to see how good it is here. I also have to say I really like that sideswept bang on him. Hard to tell if he still has it after his recent cut, but I hope so!

By the way OT but I’m assuming you’ve already seen that On Ice perspectives featured a brief teaser with Ross and that he’s going up to Boston to film him? I loved the teaser - Ross really does have great SS and it’ll be good to see more of them!

@IceCoverage, you could well be right and since that’s right around my birthday I’d be delighted if it was - it would be a nice present. :) Since he’s hopefully fully recovered now and hasn’t posted quite as much about training recently, I’m assuming he’s working really hard on his jumps etc. I guess we will just have to see what the team’s strategy is.

I think it's different, though it's similar to the last few cause they're all from his time at the Rose Center in PDX (that's the show I went to!)
