Jason Brown

Yeah that was my first thought - can’t do Finlandia so that makes ACI a little more likely. :)

It seems like a long way to go for just a single gala performance, but yeah, Japan + it probably pays well + maybe an opportunity to be considered for an invite to the comp next year + maybe he will do his SP for the gala? I think Shoma did that a couple of years ago. It seems like in Japanese ice shows, at least, skaters perform more technical content than is typical for an ex. And it would be a good chance to get another rep in before Skate Canada (including a 3A) under medium pressure - not a competition, but still in front of a knowledgeable audience.

If Jason were to do an Alice in Wonderland themed FS, I'd find it more interesting if he used White Rabbitt by Jefferson Airplane/Starship. ;)

Now THAT's an interesting idea! Seriously, it would make a good short.

Jason Brown, Maia & Alex Shibutani and Kana Muramoto/Chris Reed have been added as guest performers to the Carnival on Ice (providing Google translated the tweet properly):

This actually seems like good timing for Jason. Two weeks after ACI and 2 1/2 weeks before SC. And both ACI and SC involve little to no traveling from Toronto. A good chance to soak up some fan love.

Speculating further: Elfman's "Alice" soundtrack and Jefferson Starship "White Rabbit", though thematically linked, are worlds apart in mood and intent... "Alice" would fit right in with Jason's programs to date.. "Rabbit" is kind of out there, heavy, very different from anything Jason has done before; might change his image a bit, maybe? Would Wilson do that? "Rabbit" and "Love's a B***" , gosh, but I would love to see it!!

I think it speaks volumes that Jason was invited to skate in COI, especially when you look at the other non-Japan Open competitors who will be there: Lambiel, Machida, Akiko Suzuki, Kanako Murakami and of course, Maia/Alex and Kana/Chris. He still has really strong standing among fans in Japan, which is a really good thing.

With the Japan Open competitors, it's going to be a really great exhibition. Those who have tickets will be very lucky!

(I'm hoping for lots of cute photos with Jason and Nobu!!!)

So I think the actual JO competition is during the day but it’s broadcast on television in the evening, but I’m not sure about the gala. Does anyone know if the gala is also broadcast? I think last year there was a livestream for the competition broadcast, and it would be so cool if we could see it and the gala, even if it means getting up in the middle of the night!

Carnival on Ice is broadcast, I think it might be broadcast the next day?

Here's last year's broadcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OMJLsz5QjM

I hear YouTube video are touch and go right after the event, but people wait a few days then upload them.

ETA: From here: http://soyouwanttowatchfs.tumblr.co...017-japan-open-cs-finlandia-trophy-jgp-poland

Schedule (JST, UTC+9)
Japan Open: Oct. 7 at 12:30, Broadcast Oct. 7 at 18:30
Carnival on Ice: Oct. 7 at 18:30, Broadcast Oct. 9 at 12:00

If they keep with that schedule this year, it will be quite favorable for us in the U.S., because it would be Sunday evening here.

Thanks Mrs P - it’s something to look forward to!

I must admit I’m curious, not only about the new programs, but about how he’s doing technically- not expecting magic with quads yet, but I’m wondering if 3A is back to its 2016 solidity or if it’s still inconsistent because he’s changing jump technique or timing.

Funny how we all love Jason, but our tastes in music, well, are as diverse as they should be:biggrin:

Because when I saw the photo of Jason in Central Park (that is the Central Park Alice in Wonderland, right?) my first thought was: White Rabbit? Dear God, no, please don't skate to White Rabbit!:dev2: That will give me fond memories of Cotton Eyed Joe :slink:

But I am so psyched for Jason in Japan for an exhibition:yes2:

I bet it will be Hamilton and Can't Stop the Feeling.

El, how does the heck that White Rabbit and Cotton Eye Joe give you the same feeling? Seems like two very different songs....

We need that one Greater Toronto Skater Authority skater to leak his FS information! LOL.

Why GTSA - are they located at Scotiabank?

I loved Jason’s ex to Cotton Eyed Joe - no strong feelings about music either way, just loved how much fun he had with it.

Jefferson Airplane: I cant see them using it for three reasons: (1) way too short (2-1/2 mins); (2) too strophic / repetitive (no real melody - just a driving beat; only real change is slight increase in tempo and crescendo - so not much to work with); and (3) it’s about hallucinogenic drugs.

Heh heh - I just listened to it for the first time in years and was surprised to find myself kinda bored.

Yes, GTSA is located at Scotiabank. It was a GTSA skater who leaked Zhenya's SP music on her IG story.

I personally didn't care for the Cotton Eyed Joe exhibition.. He skated it well and all, but yeah I couldn't get past the song. Dear Evan Hanson is probably my favorite due to the fact it forced Jason to play a more introspective, introverted character. I think Canned Heat is second, namely cause I love Jamiroquai's music.

Speculation is fun! Especially when it's based on a picture of statues in Central Park. No way in H do i think this song would be under consideration but I like talking about it.

(1)Yes, way too short for a long, but I could see it as a short. It's just one long build to the end. Could be very energetic.
(2) When I listened to it yesterday, I thought the repetition and lack of melody reminded me of The Question of U ;)
(3) ????

Huh. It does build in intensity but I still find it too repetitive. Interesting that it reminds you of the Prince (my all time favorite Jason SP) as I don’t find them similar at all, except maybe that they both start out laying down an underlying rhythm. For me, the variety in Prince is achieved by the different instrumental riffs and colors throughout, which suggest a lot of different movements and lines(and I think Rohene did a fantastic job translating those into different movements). White Rabbit doesn’t seem to have that variety.

Being elliptical does not help, sorry guys:laugh:

I really really really dislike White Rabbit. Like really. And you could strike a match on Gracie Slick’s voice even in its prime.

I know little about techno music, but Cotton Eyed Joe did not make me like it. And I’m not a huge fan of American folk/country & western either.

They have nothing in common but my intense dislike for both songs.

What *do* I like? ;) Orange colored sky would have been great, but it’s taken.....

Jason's IG story shows him in the famous DEH shirt, so that is one of the numbers.

Judging from Jason's outfit in tagged IG photos, the other number was Can't Stop the Feeling.... (unless he's just wearing a blue t-shirt and a white shirt over it. Could be:biggrin:)

So, no news on programs (not unsurprisingly) but two good numbers for that show:yes:
